51 Ch. 51 The Baby’s Gender (part 1)

As if getting a new toy, Anxia took the storybook that Ling Meng had bought to read to her baby. As soon as she saw the eye-catching cover book, Anxia picked it up and started reading it aloud.

She read it while stroking her stomach gently. Every now and then, Anxia would ask her baby, which answered with a slight movement in her stomach.

For some reason, whenever Anxia complained or got angry, the baby didn’t respond. But when Anxia spoke nicely and about all good things, her baby always responded with small movements. Sometimes kicking, sometimes stroking, these little things made Anxia’s heart... warm?

Anxia had never felt this feeling before, so she didn’t understand the meaning of her feelings.

Usually, Anxia would wait for Ling Meng to come home until getting bored, but that day Anxia didn’t feel bored at all. She was constantly reading while talking to her baby.

As her stomach growled, demanding food, Anxia followed Ling Meng’s way of making healthy food for the first time. She even ate vegetables that she hated but was very good for her growing fetus.

Since she knew she could communicate with her child in just an instant, the indifferent and unconcerned Anxia had turned into a good mother.

Exactly ten o’clock in the morning, the door opened, indicating that Ling Meng had returned home from her shopping event.

Anxia squealed happily and immediately went to welcome her friend’s return. Only this time, she didn’t run or jump like she usually did, but she walked normally and seemed to be careful about her surroundings so she wouldn’t fall.

Well, considering that Anxia’s balance was unbelievably good, there was no way she would fall even if she walked carelessly.

“Meng Meng! Where have you been? I’ve been waiting for you.”

Ling Meng brought many shopping bags filled with vegetables, meat, and some neutral baby clothes, making Anxia frown in disapproval.

Ling Meng thought Anxia was moody because she was caught buying baby equipment without Anxia knowing. Well, it’s only natural that her friend was angry.

After all, Anxia planned to leave her child in the hospital once she gave birth so they didn’t have to buy baby equipment or baby clothes.

But Ling Meng bought it anyway. Moreover, the woman bought two kinds of clothes! One for girls in cute pink while one for boys in light blue.

Don’t blame Ling Meng for buying two kinds because she doesn’t know the gender of the baby. Anxia herself also refused to check it out.

‘Why find out the gender? After all, we’re not going to raise it.’ That was Anxia’s cynical answer when Ling Meng asked if Anxia had ever been curious about her baby’s gender.

“What’s this?” Anxia’s question in a distasteful tone stirred Ling Meng’s dreamy mind.

She thought Anxia would be lazing by the pool at this hour, so she didn’t have to worry about getting caught buying baby clothes. But who would have thought, Anxia would welcome her return with such enthusiasm?

Did something good happen to Anxia that she could smile cheerfully when the mother-to-be greeted her?

Well, no matter how good it was, it was inevitable that Anxia’s mood would turn sour once she found out Ling Meng bought some baby gear.

She sighed in resignation and was forced to answer honestly.

“Qiao Qiao, I accidentally walked into a baby clothes shop, and I couldn’t help but buy some. Try to see for yourself. The clothes are cute.”

“...” Anxia’s brows furrowed even more, and her eyes seemed highly irritated. “Meng Meng, you have the heart to make me wait to buy my baby’s clothes?? Why didn’t you tell me? I also want to come to buy clothes for my kid.”

“Qiao Qiao, I know how you feel about your baby, but... Wait, what did you just say?” Ling Meng only realized something different with how Anxia spoke, or perhaps she had ear trouble.

“There is no more time, and I can not wait. Meng Meng, let’s go to the obstetrician.”

Anxia immediately took Ling Meng’s groceries and placed them carelessly on the sofa chair. Then she pulled Ling Meng’s hand back towards the outside, but Ling Meng restrained her movement.

“Qiao Qiao, you still want to do it?”

“Ah?”

“Listen, some say doing it in late pregnancy is more painful than doing it early. So, undo your intentions.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Don’t abort your baby, hm?”

Anxia glared at her friend in surprise. Good grief! Ling Meng thought she took her to the obstetrician to abort the fetus?

“I didn’t plan on doing it. I just want to meet my baby.”

“Ah?” This time it was Ling Meng who didn’t understand his friend’s words.

Whose kid? Did Anxia have children before?

It seemed that Ling Meng’s brain had suddenly shrunk to an idiotic state, and she did not think the child her friend was referring to was the child she was carrying.

“Meng Meng, I want to know the gender of my upcoming baby. Only then can we go shopping to buy clothes and equipment for the baby properly. Why are you looking at me like that?”

Ling Meng’s eyes were wide, and her mouth was wide open, so maybe an apple could go straight through her teeth.

Anxia was getting impatient and annoyed that her friend had suddenly turned into an idiot.

Anxia clenched her best friend’s lower jaw in annoyance. “Do you want to accompany me or not? Otherwise, I will leave you. Hmph!” Anxia immediately turned around and walked with wide strides. But she slowed her steps when she remembered that she was pregnant with her child.

Be careful not to fall. Anxia reminded herself that she was ridiculous.

So far, when she moves carelessly, she never falls because of her excellent reflexes and perfect balance. For some reason, now she was even more careful than ever.

On the other hand, Ling Meng, who had just finished digesting all of Anxia’s words from start to finish, slapped her cheeks hard.

“Not a dream?” Ling Meng flashed a huge happy smile and shouted for her best friend, “Qiao Qiao! Wait for me!”
