[Gile: Superhuman Project]

※Gile’s POV

After the execution of Alfine, showing up in the royal castle day and night and paying King Frederick a courtesy visit in order to dispel the distrust that seems to have sprouted up in him has become my daily routine.

Then, after the audience with the king, I would hold conversations with the various court nobles in order to gather information about Linus who is the director of the Magic Research Institute and has a great deal of trust from the king – so was how I’ve been spending my days.

Partly due to holding those conversations daily, and also because I’ve gone in and out of the royal palace for many years, I succeeded in obtaining information related to a project that existed 20 years ago – in which Linus participated in – from a noble who is familiar with the information in the court.

“Well, to think the Magic Research Institute was secretly carrying out such a project in the midst of the turmoil of the Great Invasion… The names of those who participated in the project include the name of Frontier Count’s wife – Florina. This is…”

“The project was formulated mainly by the Magic Research Institute, which was headed by Linus, in the midst of chaos in dealing with the invasion. I know not so far as whether or not it was implemented without the approval of King Frederick. After all, everything was chaotic at the time.”

The old noble who provided the information bows apologetically while wiping the sweat on his forehead.

“Whether it was approved or not doesn’t matter. Rather, implementing such a project itself would be fatal wound to him.”

“If you say so, that means it was worth it for this old bag of bones to exhaust himself. So—”

“I’ll tell my father about your son’s court rank, so leave it to me. I’ll not let him be mistreated. Moreover, I’ll also have a suitable post prepared for him in the Royal Guard Knight Order.”

Since he has provided me with the information that could rid Linus off of his head, I should let this useless noble sip some sweet juice too.

After I had the bowing and groveling old noble retire, I scrutinize the information I got.

‘Superhuman Project’, huh… To fix monster’s factor into a human with magic in order to give them an overwhelming amount of magic power, and to purify poisonous dragon’s blood with magic and add it into a human body in order to give them overwhelming physical robustness or such, it is clearly an aberrant human experimentation project.

There are 5 names written as the planners of the project, they are Linus, Florina, Cinzia, Danton, and Philia.

Whether the drafted project was executed or not is unknown.

That means what the scientists from another world and the mages from this place do are the same in the end, isn’t it?

Good grief, what a totally creepy bunch.

I feel disgusted with the contents of the project I got, but thinking that the contents would be a trump card to protect my neck, I decide to summon Vigo to collect more information.

After a while, the summoned Vigo appears in the office of the commander of the Royal Guard Knight Order in the royal castle.

“I heard you are summoning me. Coincidentally, I, too, have something I want to report, so I quickly come here.”

Although he bows reverently, Vigo before me too – while being my father’s vassal – is a man who spends his life doing crazy research just like Linus.

Helping to further that crazy research has become a duty given to me by my father.

“Ahh, I got an interesting information when I was investigating about Linus. I’d like to have your organization look into it. First, look at this.”

I show Vigo the draft of the ‘Superhuman Project’ that I have in my hand.

Vigo receive it and silently read it.

“This is, truly a wonderful project. To think there is such an approach… I never thought about it at all. This might allow me to make a new discovery.”

“Fool, to hell with the contents of such a project. What I want to know is whether this project was executed 20 years ago or not. Can you investigate it with your organization?”

“Whether the ‘Superhuman Project’ was executed or not, is it? I understand. We want to get the personage who became the specimen by all means, so we will give investigating it the highest priority. Also, will you allow me to keep this draft?”

“I don’t care, all I want to know is whether or not the project was executed. Report to me as soon as you find out about it.”

“Understood.”

After keeping the draft in his pocket with great care, Vigo offers me another piece of paper this time.

“This is?”

“The whereabouts of the Sword Master Alfine. No, former Sword Master should be more apt, no?”

After pulling the paper presented to me, I run my eyes over the contents.

It is highly likely that the former Sword Master Alfine has headed for the southern frontier Youg Hannotes to chase her lover Finn who appears to have gone there, and there she changed her gender, appearance, and sword style, and re-registered as a beginner adventurer Al.

The adventurer Al who wields two swords showed a rare talent for the sword, catching the interest of the Frontier Count Lloyd, and currently, she seemed to be heading for Inbahanes as an adventurer hired by him.

While reading the contents, my hand holding the paper doesn’t stop trembling.

“Does this mean that Alfine has already fallen into the hands of the Frontier Count?”

“Perhaps, that possibility is high, I think. It is better to take that the actions we took against Alfine-dono have been leaked to the Frontier Count as well.”

“Isn’t that bad!”

I’m so angry that I hit the desk with my hand holding the paper.

“There is no problem. The Sword Master Alfine has already turned into a deceased, so even if the Frontier Count were to declare that she is Alfine who has changed her appearance to Al, we just have to insist that she is an imposter.”

“…That’s true, however. If the story of Alfine’s survival reaches King Frederick’s ears again.”

“There will be no problem as long as you eliminate Linus-shi with the information of this project. Rather than that, I have received the information that the Crimson Magic Swordsman Frick who defeated my Abyss Walkers in Inbahanes and the Frontier Count’s daughter Noelia are visiting the royal capital.”

The freak who defeated Vigo’s subordinates and Abyss Walkers in the crystal mine of Inbahanes all on his own is here in the royal capital…

They must have come here because they are suspicious of the connection between the Royal Guard Knight Order and Abyss Walkers.

They are a bunch of people who knew about things that would bring us troubles in various ways if known; what a bunch of pain in the ass.

“Immediately take measures against Frick and Noelia. If it’s inside the royal capital, we can crush them no matter how strong they are.”

“I have already summoned the new and improved Abyss Walkers. I will have them assassinate those two, so please wait for a while.”

“Improved, you say?”

“Yes, they are of an enhanced variety which combat power and vitality have been further elevated. I think they cannot be compared with what they used to be.”

Vigo’s eyes seem to be dyed in the color of madness as he talks about the enhanced Abyss Walkers.

Seeing the sudden and complete change in his expression from the cold-hearted one he had until just now, makes me reaffirm that I’m employing an insane man.

I don’t know why this guy is absorbed in his crazy research, but when I look at his eyes, I feel a slight chill.

Feeling unwell, I silently wave my hand, giving instruction and urging Vigo to leave the room.

“Well then, please leave me to handle everything. As for the matter of Linus-shi, I will give you the report as soon as we ascertain it, so it would be for the best if you were to continue as usual, Gile-sama.”

After Vigo bowed reverently like when he came and left the office, I sigh deeply.

“Haaah. This world is filled with nothing but freaks here and there, huh. What a truly horrible world.”

Getting more irritated because of the words I spat out unbearably, the quill pen in my hand makes a sound and gets snapped.

(Reverse?)isekai comes into the stage~

And superhuman projecttt, it made me think about a certain adventurer with an absurd amount of magic power for some reason~
