CH 74

[Artistic Golem Production]

After adding Diedur who had escaped from the Royal Guard Knight Order’s garrison to our group and left the garrison, we headed to the Rahaman Mine, which located further south from the city of Inbahanes.

Since we left the garrison at midnight and carefully rushed in the road at night, it seems like everyone are about to reach the limit of their sleepiness.

The morning sun has already begun to rise from the horizon.

I’m sure the Royal Guard Knight Order have done preparing the pursuers and are chasing us, so while I ride Diedur on the ground, I have Dimol to keep a lookout from the sky.

However, Suzana’s wagon, which runs at the front, has been meandering to the right and left repeatedly since a while ago, and is about to deviate from the highway.

Judging that it is dangerous, I have Diedur who I straddle on to get close to the wagon driven by Suzana.

“Suzana, we should have gained a considerable distance, so I think it’s about time we take a nap. It seems that you are already half-asleep anyway.”

“Yes? I was not sleeping you know. Yes, I was not sleeping!”

Suzana who has completely sleepy eyes says she wasn’t sleeping, but I feel she need to rest.

She completely fell asleep while driving right?

There is a drool drooping down on the corner of her lips after all.

“Okay. I understand, so let’s hide the wagon in the forest over there and rest.”

“I-is that so? Then, I will head there.”

Diedur came when we were about to sleep, and we had been running since then, so her drowsiness must have reached the limit.

Noelia also took turns driving the wagon several times, but since she was tired from the unfamiliar road at night, she had reached her limit and was sleeping.

If you are drowsy and don’t get rest, you might cause an accident.

I follow after Suzana’s wagon, and when we go into the depths of the forest, I whistle to Dimol in the sky.

Pushing through the forest, we come to a place that is hard to see from the highway; it seems that we could finally take a rest.

“Hmm, even so, everyone sure is though. I fell asleep first because staying up all night is bad for my skin though.”

I see Cinzia who is wearing the skin headgear perches on Suzana’s head, who sleeps in the coachman’s seat as though she had collapsed.

“Since you look fine, can I ask you to be on watch, Cinzia-sama? I want to take a nap too.”

“Ehh~, what a pain. You should just put out a golem. A golem will always be connected to the user even while they are sleeping, and you can just give it a command to attack on sight if a strange thing approach.”

“Hee, that might be convenient. If I deploy a golem together with Sanctuary, I feel I might be able to create an impregnable interception net.”

Since I’m too drowsy and can’t think deeply, I feel that Cinzia’s proposal is very good.

“Cinzia-sama, if I remember correctly, the image you imagine to use Employment magic is of the original substance and what form it will take, right?”

“Yes, you’re right. With Frick’s amount of magic power, I think you can use most substances as golem. The performance and the magic power consumed by each substance will differ, and the lightest one is probably soil.”

Cinzia who descends from Susana’s head to the ground is poking the soil with the tip of her beak.

Soil golem huh, if I set them up as sentries in eight directions, they should be able to cover each other’s field of view; let’s make 8 for now.

I heard that Noelia had already succeeded.

As her disciple, it will be embarrassing if I can’t use the magic that my master could use.

I decided to make a golem with my drowsy consciousness.

“Err, O’ you who had lost your shape, clad in my mana, take the form of human. Summon Golem.”

While touching the ground and chanting, I imagine a soil golem with a form close to a human.

The released magic power begun to move the soil, and when I thought – the ground rippled? – a mud golem that imitates a human figure begun to emerge.

Ohhh, looks like it will succeed.

It turned out quite well—

As the rippling ground seems to settle down, and I begin to get satisfied with the result of the rising mud golem, it explodes a little later, and it turns into a form that’s horrible to even look at.

“Pffft! That looks good. As expected of Frick. It has a high artistic point. This result is at a level that’s rare to see. However, as expected you waste more magic power when you activate it than Noelia.”

The finished mud golem barely retains the shape of a human, but no matter how I see it, I can only describe its figure as a golem zombie.

“I-it’s my first time after all. It may be a little unshapely, but I think it works properly—wait, how do I give it an instruction?”

“I’ve said that a golem is connected to your consciousness, right? In other words, you can share your sight and intention with it just like you do with a familiar. If you think about what you want it to do, the golem will move according to that will.”

I see. Indeed, the moment the golem was created, I could feel senses that were different from my own.

Should I try turning my attention to that?

I try to sharpen the new sensation in myself.

Then, I feel that my vision and physical sensation switch to there, and I gently grab Sinzia on my shoulder.

“Heyyyy—. Let-go-of-it! You’re going to be crushed! If you link the senses too much, you may die due to shock when the golem is destroyed. In your current state, if that golem is destroyed, you’ll die you know. You should dull your senses.”

Cinzia who is rampaging in my hand see through that my consciousness shifted to the golem.

Dull it huh, it is unexpectedly difficult.

It seems there is a knack for it.

Cinzia told me to dull my senses, so I try to move my consciousness away from the golem.

Although I lose the responsiveness of the body and the clarity of the field of vision, I retain the senses of my original body.

I see, the movement change on the strength of your consciousness, huh.

Currently, I’m not in the middle of a fight; since I will only use it to watch the surroundings as a sentry, the minimum level of consciousness should be sufficient.

As I was adjusting the connection of consciousness with the golem, I begin to find the right level for everyday use.

“Though it’s a little sluggish, but it can’t be helped, as long as it works.”

“For your first time, I think it’s a great success except for the modeling. So why did you make eight bodies? You are really – just because you have uselessly lots of magic power, doesn’t mean you should do such a reckless—”

“They’re for sentries. I think I can see in all directions if I put each in eight directions—”

As I said that, I share view with the eight golems that I created—

W-what is this!! The view!!

The view turned strange!

“Haah, geez, you dummy. If you share the views of eight bodies, of course your own view will turn strange. You should only connect like that when there is a reaction! At the rest of the time set them in standby state!”

Cinzia sigh and teach the countermeasure to me who can’t walk straight due to linking my view with the golems.

My view is gradually restored as I put the golems in standby state and cut off the views one by one.

“Haah, you saved me. I was wondering what happened. I thought I would be able to react immediately if I keep a lookout continuously, but to think I couldn’t even walk properly…”

“The Employment magic that handles substance is surprisingly deep you know. But the Dead Spirit magic that handles human consciousness is more difficult though. Have you made up your mind to try that too?”

“N-no, I haven’t. I have to handle Employment magic perfectly first, lest an accident occurs. First of all, I will master this.”

“Right. At the moment, I’m only teaching Employment magic to Noelia too. It may be better to stop the Dead Spirit magic that deals with human consciousness at myself.”

Cinzia who is perching on my shoulder mutters with a slightly sad voice.
