CH 111

[The Identity of the Attacker]

As I approach the point where the light is visible from the sky, I see a new sparkle in the forest.

Thinking that the enemy is launching a long-distance attack, I deploy a Wind Barrier so as to wrap the flying Dimol.

After the sparkle, the Wind Barrier that have been deployed to protect against flying projectiles gets cracked in an instant, losing its effect.

The effect of my Wind Barrier was torn off in a single hit, huh.

It doesn’t look like magic, however……

Was it an arrow shot at super high speed?

While chanting a new Wind Barrier, I ponder about what the opponent’s means of attack is.

However, the opponent does not give me such time.

When glitters appeared successively on the ground, my Wind Barrier cracks; then after a projectile grazes Dimol’s body, I can hear its incoming, delayed sound.

There are arrows that flies faster than sound!?

Not good, at this rate, Dimol will only end up being an easy target.

“Dimol, we’re just being targets here. Let’s dive to the ground at once so that the opponents can’t focus on us.” (Frick)

“Kuee!”

After replying, Dimol immediately nose dives to the ground.

It seems that the opponent doesn’t expect our move, I see a flying object passing through the place where we had been at until just now.

When we get down close to the ground, I squint my eyes, looking at the place where the sparkles appeared.

There’s no one there, however…

The place where the sparkles appeared should be there.

I can’t see the figures of the enemies who attacked me and the village.

Even while finding it strange that there are no figures of the opponents, I decide to fire a Fireball toward the place where the sparkles appeared just to make sure.

“Become a hot burning fireball and burn my enemies, Fireball.” (Frick)

When the activated Fireball flies to the place where the sparkles appeared, I can see a familiar red light from the shade of the trees.

That’s, the light of the weapons used by Abyss Walkers at the Abyss Hole and the mine!?

At the moment I think so, the Fireball I fired explodes without landing at the target point, scattering a gale to the surroundings.

That light… does that mean the ones lurking over there are Abyss Walkers?

Why are there Abyss Walkers in my village?

The villagers should have been regularly going into the mountains, checking if Abyss Walkers has encroached the place, though.

After noticing the existence of the invisible enemies, I realize that the said red light is aimed at Dimol’s chest.

“You’re being targeted, Dimol! I’ll go to the front, so fly away!” (Frick)

“Kuee!”

After jumping off Dimol, I once again start the chant of Fireball.

“Become a hot burning fireball and burn my enemies, Fireball.” (Frick)

Not being able to hit the soaring Dimol, the red light leaves only a streak of light, ending up in misfire.

Meanwhile, the Fireball I fired lands on the place where the enemies seem to be lurking and explodes.

“W-what the hell. Eh!?”

The figures of people clad in pale light emerge in the place where the fireball explodes.

Just that, though three of the four are human-shaped, they are too be big to be humans.

When the pale light cladding the four people subsides, a young man wearing white clothes and mask appears among the monstrosities.

“Dammit! Did the optical camouflage function of the cloak temporarily go down because of that fire magic? Genociders, kill that man! Only a piece of his flesh is needed for the antibodies research. Crush him with all your might and avenge our compatriots!”

When the young man who appeared bares his hostility towards me, the one-eyed giant monsters behind him begin to move, heading towards me.

Are they Abyss Walkers!?

No, they’re way bigger than the ones I’ve seen so far, even their appearance is too different…

The man called them Genociders, that means they’re not the new type of Abyss Walker, huh.

Although I feel a bit uneasy about the approaching eerie looking monsters, I draw out Dayle from her sheathe.

[Is it work time? It is still night, though. Fuaaaaaah.] (Dayle)

“Dayle, it’s not the time to be half-asleep. Look ahead, those guys’ presence is kinda bad.” (Frick)

Dayle, who seems to be still half-asleep, responds with a sleepy voice, so I have her see the opponents to wake her up.

[Ng!? S-scary, what in the world are those monsters!?] (Dayle)

“Those lot attacked the village! If we leave them as is, the village will be destroyed. We’re gonna exterminate them. You can do it, right?” (Frick)

After I took a stance, Dayle answers my question.

[U-understood! As long as Dayle’s with Master, even scary monsters will only be pieces of cake! By the way, can Dayle fully use your magic power?] (Dayle)

“Yeah, if we’re frugal, we’re the ones that gonna be rid of after all. Use all you want!” (Frick)

[Okay! Dayle’s going with a bang!] (Dayle)

When Dayle starts chanting a magic at high speed to restrain the incoming monsters, at the same time, I also chant body enhancement magic to increase my fighting ability.
