CH 2

They were both in love with each other, so Ming Zhu and her like-minded childhood friend arranged a marriage engagement.

Coincidentally, that day, the Ming family hosted a banquet. The crown prince attended in a low profile, drank some wine and went to the lake to get some air.

After Ming Zhu becamed engaged, the several legitimate daughters of the Ming family stopped guarding against her. Originally, according to Mingzhu's status, she would not be allowed to attend such a banquet, but this time she was exceptionnaly allowed to participate.

Ming Zhu quietly hid two pieces of her favorite hibiscus cake and went back to the backyard to rest.

Seeing that the weather was nice and there was no one at the lake in the backyard, she boldly went to the lake to pick lotus seeds.

The summer was letting out sunshine. She was dressed in light clothes, her white face was slightly reddened by the sunlight and her black hair was blowing in the wind. She took off her shoes and socks and entered the water as the maid on the shore jumped anxiously, "Miss, come up quickly, it's not good if people see you."

Ming Zhu smiled at her, "Aiya, don't be afraid, no one will come here."

She returned with a full load and put on her socks and shoes after landing back on the shore. Holding a pile of lotus seeds in her arms, with a bright smile on her face, she was both beautiful and clean.

At that time, she was not aware of the fact that, from the pavillion close by, a man had been quietly watching her for a long time, and that his unfathomable gaze only slowly withdrew from her back.

Zhao Zhi sobered up with the blowing wind and as he went back to the front yard, in his mind the picture of the young girl's bright smile kept appearing. Her smile was even sweeter than the lotus flower.

Before he left, the Ming family's eldest master respectfully sent the crown prince to the main gate.

Zhao Zhi, standing before the carriage, casually inquired who the maiden who was picking lotus flowers at the lake was.

The Ming family's eldest master ordered someone to investigate, and when he got the news, he immediately replied, "It's my niece."

Zhao Zhi made a "mmh" sound, "What's her name?"

The Ming family's eldest master was startled, wondering what the prince meant, and replied with his head bowed, "Ming Zhu."

The Ming family's eldest master was taken aback. The prince was known to be gentle and courteous, it was never heard of that he could do such a thing.

He sent word that his niece was already betrothed and would be getting married next spring.

The prince, however, said that he was already aware of the matter.

The Ming family's eldest master was clear in his heart that the crown prince was only polite and kind on the surface, but that the blood in his bones was cold, that his heart was cruel and his methods ruthless and that he had done many such things as killing to clear his road.

He dared not offend the crown prince no matter what. He steeled his heart and secretely sent Ming Zhu directly to the Crown Prince's residence. After that, he broke the marriage engagement and pretended that the betrothal did not exist.

The door of her room was heavily locked by the old maidservants and the windows were also sealed.

Ming Zhu waited for several hours, and when the night was deep, she heard the sound of a lock being unlocked outside the room.

Her fingers couldn't help but tighten around the sheets beneath her, her face was white, and she didn't dare to relax in the slightest as she clenched her teeth.

Her eyes contained a light watery glow, her moist eyes looked full of charm. The tender and white silky face appearing under the candlelights increased her softness.

The man slowly walked up to her and examined her face from above, he remained silent with a cold, frosty aura around him.

Ming Zhu tremblingly opened her eyes, the man in front of her looked so handsome that she froze, she sniffled through her reddened nose and said pitifully, "You... Let me go, okay ?"

Her voice had a sobbing tone.

The expression on the man's face didn't change after hearing that, "Hmm."

One word, spoken with the same coldness as his temperament.
