CH 93

Ming Zhu walked up to Zhao Zhi with a cold face and asked him, “Would Your Highness like to drink some soup?”

Zhao Zhi didn’t answer, paused for a moment, and instead asked her, “Why does your body smell like medicine?”

Ming Zhu froze for an instant, but still managed to calmly lie to him as she said, “I used some medicinal herbs to make the soup, so I might have gotten the smell of medicine on me as a result.”

Zhao Zhi did not doubt the truth of her words.

Ming Zhu breathed a sigh of relief inwardly. She then opened the food box and took out the bowl of freshly boiled lamb soup and pushed it in front of him. When she was obedient and docile, she had a gentle look on her face, “You try it.”

Chapter 93

(33.2)

Zhao Zhi’s attention wasn’t on the soup, his gaze was on the young girl’s wrist, her bones were slender, she was wearing a jade bracelet, which made her skin appear even more delicate and white.

He took her hand, then swept a glance at the clothes she was wearing today, they were good-looking, but too thin.

The corners of Zhao Zhi’s mouth curved downward, his expression looked a bit unhappy as he asked: “Your health is originally not good, yet you still wear so little.”

Today it was sunny and bright outside. Once the sun was up, the weather was a bit hot during late spring. Raising her black and transparent eyes, she shook her head, “I’m not cold.”

Zhao Zhi remained silent without saying anything, but he still insisted on putting a thin cloak on her shoulders, “Even if you’re not cold, you still have to wear more.”

Ming Zhu did not want to argue with him on this trivial matter and also didn’t want to stay in the study any longer. Gently and understandingly, she said, “Your Highness, I don’t want to disturb you any longer.”

If Sheng Wenlin was not there, Zhao Zhi might not have let her go this easily.

But this person’s jealousy was very extreme, and he really didn’t like Ming Zhu to see any other man. If she took even two glances at others, Zhao Zhi wouldn’t be able to tolerate it.

He exhorted her, “Be careful not to let the wind blow on your body when you’re back.”

From spring to winter, she liked to sunbathe no matter what, and even the cold wind hitting her in the face wasn’t able to stop her. If she stayed under the blowing wind for too long she would get a cold, and then he would be the one who would feel unwell from seeing her being sick.

Ming Zhu, going along with his wish, said in front of him, “Alright.”

When she turned around, her eyes inevitably met Sheng shizi‘s eyes. Although she hated him, she couldn’t be so rude as to simply ignore him.

Ming Zhu bowed towards him as form of greetings, before walking out in style.

The lamb soup left on the table was already a little cold. Zhao Zhi drank the bowl of soup and found that the taste of it was really good. He knew that Ming Zhu could cook, but every time she took the initiative to bring him food, it was because she had a favor to ask. A day like today, where she had no other intention, was rarer than rare.

Sheng Wenlin’s mind was far away, his nose still seemed to be smelling the fragrance of peach blossoms on the young girl’s body. Just now when Ming Zhu passed by him, without even knowing why, he felt nervous, his breathing paused and he didn’t dare to breathe too loudly.

When Sheng Wenlin came back to his senses, he suddenly felt somewhat annoyed, embarrassed and irritated.

How could his heart feel so shaken by such an idiot beauty ?

Perhaps it was because the more unattainable a woman was, the more irresistible she was.

Sheng Wenlin calmed down his emotions and returned to his usual elegant and unrestrained appearance. He resumed the previous topic they were talking about with Zhao Zhi before they got interrupted just now, “With the imperial court of justice’s minister presiding over the case, the investigation is almost done. Everyone involved has confessed. On Wei Liu’s side, a lot of new evidence has also been found out, now we’re only waiting for Your Highness’s approbation to close down the case.”

This embezzlement case was very extensive. These days, who knew how many people had died inside the imperial court of justice’s dungeons ? There were layers upon layers of red blood which had turned black on the ground, which couldn’t be washed away even with water.

Sheng Wenlin had heard that the crown prince in person went to the dungeon to personally interrogate the governor of Jiangnan. The imperial court of justice’s people used all sorts of means to get him to talk, in vain. Yet the crown prince only used half a day to pry open the Jiangnan governor’s mouth.

He heard that when the crown prince came out of the dungeon, his whole body was full of foul air, his clothes were stained with blood, which could never be washed clean.

Zhao Zhi hummed, “You still have things to say?”

Sheng Wenlin indeed still had something to say. After a moment of pondering, he opened his mouth: “Although Wei Chiyu handled the silver, but the amount of silver that went through his hands didn’t change. Shouldn’t the person be released?”

Wei Chiyu was seized by Wei Liu in person, just last night. Wei Liu, without making a sound, led the Jinyiwei people, in the middle of the night, to arrest Wei Chiyu in his house.

Zhao Zhi turned his body sideways and looked out the window for a long time, in contemplation. He said indifferently, “Let’s talk about it in a few days.”

Sheng Wenlin, as Wei Chiyu’s fellow student and colleague, didn’t want to see him suffer this kind of undeserved plight, which maybe he got implicated in because of his former fiancée.

The crown prince felt he was a thorn in his heart, and this time was just the right occasion to deal with him by borrowing someone’s else knife to kill him.

Sheng Wenlin pursed his lips and boldly said, “Actually, the truth is, those words I said just now, it was the granddaughter of my teacher who pleaded to me, in tears, to come and ask you for a favor.”

This was to remind His Highness, although Wei Chiyu and your favorite concubine had some romantic affinities in the past, but that was all in the past, he now also had a new fiancée.

This jealousy wasn’t worth it.
