Chapter 52 - 52 General Wan (1)

52 General Wan (1)

Su Qing asked directly. She wanted to know who Old Master Qin was thinking about when he looked at Xiaoying. Her intuition told her that Xiaoying and Ji Shuisheng’s identities were definitely not as simple as just villagers.

“She’s my goddaughter. She died with her husband and has been dead for 16 years. ”

Old Master Qin was moved. He had already helped her ask for a pardon, but she still insisted on dying for love.

Old Master Qin looked at Ji Xiaoying with a kind gaze.

!!

“If my god-granddaughter was still healthy, she should be around Xiaoying’s age.”

“May I ask, why did your goddaughter die for love?”

Su Qing’s expression remained calm as he continued to ask. Ji Xiaoying’s attention was also caught by Old Master Qin’s words. She did not even bother to eat the delicious food on the table as her large black eyes looked curiously at Old Master Qin. She really wanted to know more about this unyielding woman.

“Let’s not talk about the past. Don’t let my mood affect your meal.”

Old Master Qin took a deep breath, clearly not wanting to continue with this topic. He used a clean pair of chopsticks to pick up a caramelised sweet potato for Xiaoying, with an affectionate gaze in his eyes like he was looking at his own child.

Su Qing saw that the old man didn’t want to answer, so she didn’t ask anymore. Instead, she lowered her head and ate. The dishes in this restaurant were all good, especially the steamed West Lake fish, which could be considered a famous dish.

She had already informed Xiao Qi to prepare a recipe. It just so happened that they were in the city, so it would be easy to buy whatever spices they lacked.

Su Qing remembered something important. She put down her chopsticks and said to Old Master Qin, “Old Master Qin, please send someone to keep an eye on the city. When you see our team, come back and inform us.”

She and Xiaoying traveled rather quickly. Ji Shuisheng and the rest should be able to reach Jin City by night, but the soldiers guarding Jin City’s Gate did not allow the disaster victims to enter the city. Su Qing was worried that she would be separated from the Peach Blossom Cove team.

“I’ve already sent people to stand guard outside the city.”

Old Master Qin’s emotions returned to normal as he smiled at Su Qing.

“Thank you,” she said.

Su Qing awkwardly thanked him. She was still not used to saying those two words.

“You’re welcome. I’ve delayed the divine doctor. I should help take care of him. ”

Old Master Qin laughed. He didn’t expect the divine doctor to say thank you. This made her look less distant.

After the meal, the three of them returned to the relay station. Old Master Qin instructed Su Qing and Ji Xiaoying to rest early. He returned to his room and looked at the dancing candlelight, thinking about his goddaughter.

His old friend entrusted him with this task before her death, but he failed to protect her and General Xiao. He was ashamed.

When Su Qing returned to her room, she found the post Master standing at the door with a troubled expression. When he saw Su Qing return, the post Master hurried over and bowed apologetically, “Miss, I’m really sorry.”

Su Qing looked at him coldly. She had a rough idea of what was going on. She frowned. If she had the same temper as she did in her previous life, the person who stole her room would have been dead.

“Do you think it’s possible to change rooms? This room… is occupied by General Wan.”

The courier faced Su Qing’s cold gaze and felt his scalp go numb. A chill ran from his feet to his spine, but he had no choice. He had to finish speaking no matter what.

He had thought that he would have to spend a lot of effort to convince Su Qing, but he did not expect Su Qing to agree.

“Alright,” she said.

Ji Xiaoying was very angry. Who would be so overbearing as to snatch their room?

“Thank you for your understanding. I’ve arranged for you two to stay on the third floor. The rooms are not bad. Please come with me.”

The master wiped his cold sweat and led Su Qing and Ji Xiaoying upstairs.

Su Qing turned around. Although the door was tightly shut, she could feel that Wan was standing at the door and listening to their conversation.

Su Qing was only worried about one thing now. She couldn’t let Ji Shuisheng know that the one with the surname Wan was at the courier station. She decided that as long as the Peach Blossom Cove squad reached the outskirts of Jin City, she would leave with Xiaoying.

As for the matter of buying things, she could only think about it when they reach the next city.

The room on the third floor was much smaller than the room on the second floor. There was only one window facing the street and no back window, so the bamboo forest could not be seen. However, no one would look at the bamboo forest at night. It didn’t matter if it was big or small since they would just be sleeping. Su Qing was quite satisfied.

“Young ladies, is there anything else you need?”

The courier asked Su Qing. After all, he was in the wrong for asking them to change rooms. They were Old Master Qin’s distinguished guests, and he couldn’t offend them.

“Bring ten sets of refreshments.”

Su Qing looked at him indifferently. As expected, she was not being polite. The courier was stunned for a moment. He did not expect Su Qing to order so many refreshments.

“Alright, but you’ll have to wait a moment. There aren’t enough refreshments in the kitchen, so we’ll have to make them on the spot. ”

The courier only hesitated for a moment and immediately said with a smile,”So you want a compensation. Sure.”

Su Qing nodded. Ji Xiaoying’s eyes light up with excitement and she eagerly grabbed Su Qing’s hand and jumped up and down.

“Big sister, you’re so awesome!”

“Hurry up and sleep. We have to travel tonight.”

Su Qing allowed her to pull her arm and jump around like a happy child. The corners of her mouth curled up into a smile.

“Alright, let’s go to sleep.”

Ji Xiaoying immediately nodded and ran to sit on the bed. She missed the bed at home so much. She had been sleeping on the floor for the past few days, and her bones were hurting from sleeping.

This inn’s blankets were all made of silk and were slippery to the touch, so it must be very comfortable when used to cover one’s body.

After Ji Xiaoying laid down, she stuck her face to the blanket and laughed as happily as a little mouse who had stolen sesame oil.

Su Qing was lying outside in her clothes. Ji Xiaoying noticed that Su Qing was tired, so she resisted the urge to chat with her and closed her eyes to sleep.

The two of them didn’t sleep for long before they were awoken by a knock on the door. Su Qing sat up abruptly and stared at the door with a sharp gaze. Her low and cold voice sounded like it had been tempered with ice.

“Who is it?”

“Miss, I’m here to serve tea and snacks.”

The guard outside the door was frightened and answered cautiously and fearfully.

“Bring it in,” Su Qing lifted her hand and pulled down the mosquito net to block Xiaoying, who was still sound asleep inside. She put on her shoes and got down to open the door.

...

The three messengers carried three large tea plates and entered in a single file. They walked without making any sound, and no one spoke. They put down the items, bowed, and left.

Su Qing looked at the refreshments. It was still the same stuff that he had served them before— golden soft pastry and osmanthus cake.

With Ji Xiaoying around, these pastries could not be placed in the system, so there had to be something that could be used to store these pastries.

Su Qing regretted selling the ten wicker baskets she had woven to Old Master Qin. Even if she wanted to make wicker baskets now, she didn’t have any willow branches.

She remembered that there were two drooping willows in the courtyard of the courier station, so she got up and went out, planning to go to the courtyard to cut some willow branches.

When Su Qing reached the top of the stairs, she heard a knock on the door. Then, she heard Wan’s low and cold voice.

“Come in.”

Su Qing’s heart skipped a beat. She wanted to hear what they had to say.

However, before she could go downstairs, she was discovered by two men in black at the door of Wan’s room. They unsheathed their steel knives and rushed to the stairs, pointing them at Su Qing and shouting, “Who is it?”
