CH 26

C26 – I’ll Be a Professional Spy

Liu Yuan immediately stepped forward to help Gu Feidao up. There was an ominous silence between the two men before Liu Yuan said, “Master Gu, you don’t have to do this. Just tell me what you wish me to do for Siyin. I will do everything I can to help.”

Gu Feidao slowly stood up, “I’m old, but I’m not a fool. I know what Water Moon Dock wants. With my connections, I can seek help from sects much stronger than Water Moon Dock, but I dare not make a move.”

He looked straight at Liu Yuan, “Mr. Junxuan, do you know why?”

Being stared at by this martial arts tycoon, Liu Yuan felt his heart beating fast. He said hesitantly, “Because of… the Devil Cult?”

Gu Feidao’s gaze turned deeper, “So you knew all along.”

Liu Yuan had no choice but to nod and admit, “Yes… To be honest, I’m doing this not only for Siyin, but also because I wish to take down Devil Cult. I don’t know exactly why they target Pool Feather Mountain Manor, but I’m ready to offer my service for the sake of eliminating the evil and defending justice.”

To hell with it. Of course he was lying; he was doing it for the cute Siyin and the beautiful Rong Rong!

Otherwise he would have been long gone.

Gu Feidao let out a long sigh of relief, “Seems like I’m right about you, Mr. Junxuan. You are indeed a righteous man. That’s probably why you persuaded Ning Xiangrong to delay the engagement, I think?”

Liu Yuan nodded, “Yes, Devil Cult has already sent spies into the inside of Water Moon Dock. I had no choice but to kill one of them as a warning… After all, although I am willing to help Pool Feather Mountain Manor, I don’t really want to make Water Moon Dock my enemy.”

Gu Feidao pondered for a minute before asking, “So that Yue Longzhang is a spy?”

Liu Yuan braced himself and said, “Yes.”

Gu Feidao muttered with a frown, “I thought Ma Shu was…”

Liu Yuan nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard this. Damn it, how did he know?

Ma Shu was much better an actor than Liu Yuan himself. Had he not have played this game before, Liu Yuan would never be able to tell that he was a spy of Devil Cult.

Gu Feidao continued, “So it turns out that Yue Longzhang was the one. It makes sense. Ma Shu would be too eye-catching… Yue Longzhang seemed arrogant and foolish, so he was probably the last one people would suspect.”

Hearing this, Liu Yuan was more convinced that the only reason he was able to survive after transmigration was pure luck and these people’s imagination.

And of course he wouldn’t tell them they were wrong.

He’d be a fool to make trouble for himself.

So Liu Yuan could only nod his head.

He then asked, “I know something about Devil Cult due to some personal reasons. There won’t be too many people on one mission, usually two, and the superior would be the one to contact the inferior. They would only go to the higher levels when it comes to things they couldn’t handle.”

“To them, Pool Feather Mountain Manor is just a force in the mortal martial world. There is no need to involve the higher-ups. So, as long as we can find that superior spy, we would be able to cut off the information there, and Devil Cult would be wary of taking action against us in the future. I will be heading to Water Moon Dock in a few days to work on it.”

Gu Feidao shook his head, “It’s easier said than done… Pool Feather Mountain Manor has been operating an intelligence network for decades, and we have connections all over the mortal world. Now it can finally be of use. We’ve managed to get a piece of insider information —”

“Devil Cult will send higher-ups here.”

“So I’m afraid they are up to something bigger this time. If they ever get to take over the manor, I hope you can take Siyin away. That’s all I’m asking for, as a father.”

He sighed, “I believe my daughter won’t pick the wrong man. Mr. Junxuan, you are definitely someone she can entrust her life with.”

Liu Yuan kept thinking about what Gu Feidao had said after he left the manor.

It seemed that Gu Feidao was indeed a ruthless man. He asked him to protect Gu Siyin only, which meant that he had decided to give up the other members of the Gu Family.

Liu Yuan believed that Gu Feidao intended to sacrifice all the members of the family together with the Black Tortoise Treasure.

After all, the Black Tortoise Treasure could only be opened by the Gu Family.

“But… why would Devil Cult send their higher-ups over?”

Liu Yuan frowned. This was different from the storyline of Novice Village, unless…

The butterfly effect again!

“Fuck! God knows what will happen this time.”

Liu Yuan cursed in his heart. All the changes were unknown, and he hated to be in the dark.

“Whatever. I shouldn’t be afraid of anything. I am an advanced player, and I have visited almost the entire Middle Continent. I know this place better than anyone else.”

Liu Yuan gave himself the pep talk and took a few deep breaths. After all, Master Gu was only asking him to protect his daughter, not to sacrifice his life.

“Phew. I’ll go to Tiger Tooth Mountain to get the Monkey Wine first and see if I can get something useful… I remember it’s to the west of Creek Town. It looks like sharp teeth, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find.”

Outside Creek Town was a large bamboo forest, circled by a stream flowing down from the mountain, and he could also see quite a few wild animals and plants in the forest.

The fresh air eased Liu Yuan’s mind.

“What’s there to be afraid of? I still have the Mirror Moon Jade. I can use it to activate the secret technique of Water Moon Dock, the ‘Illusory Dream’, which can change one’s appearance. Besides, I can always run away if I can’t beat the enemy.”

Maybe Yue Longzhang had also wanted to cultivate this technique. That was why he had collected the Mirror Moon Jade. Now that he was dead, Liu Yuan just got lucky.

He stretched his arms and took a deep breath. He felt that his lungs had been purified. He was here all by himself, and he didn’t have to worry about anything at the moment.

Liu Yuan temporarily forgot about his worries.

In fact, after a night of cultivation and thinking, Liu Yuan had finally decided on a plan for the future.

He had made up his mind to become a real, professional spy!

He had met too many characters in the game, and the relationships among multiple forces were complicated, with both the good and the evil involved. If the two parties were to meet one day, chances were that he might give himself away.

By then, people would start to suspect him… For example, now he was telling Ma Shu that he worked for Devil Cult, but meanwhile Ning Xiangrong and Gu Feidao were convinced that he was a righteous man.

But if they ever exchanged information with each other, Liu Yuan would be in trouble.

Therefore, a spy with an unknown identity would be his best cover.

If Liu Yuan told everyone he met that he was on some secret mission, that his true identity must not be revealed, and that enemies were looking for him, they would be discreet when mentioning Liu Yuan in a conversation.

This was smart!

Liu Yuan felt this was a great idea.

In the future, he would claim to be an undercover agent of every organization he met.

He felt great about himself for coming up with such a clever idea.

“Let me see, to find the Monkey Wine, I should first find the place where the monkeys are, which will lead me to the place where they store their food.”

Liu Yuan activated his movement technique and entered deep into Tiger Tooth Mountain. He jumped onto a tall tree and narrowed his eyes, trying to find the monkeys.

“There it is!”

Swoosh!

Liu Yuan rode on the wind and, in a short while, he arrived at an empty area in the middle of the forest.

The monkeys were gathered not far from here and he could hear the monkeys’ cries.

“There should be a valley northeast from here. It’s where the Monkey Wine is buried.”

Liu Yuan jumped up again and headed northeast.

“Mountain valley… Yes! I found it! There should be an old pine tree deep inside.”

Liu Yuan walked in and indeed saw an old pine tree.

But just as he was about to get nearer, he heard a sharp noise.

“Squeak! Squeak!” It was the cry of a monkey.

In an instant, a black shadow charged toward him at lightning speed.
