Chapter 20 – Encounter at the Kindergarten

The next day arrived.

The time was 11:00 AM. I had finished my lunch early and immediately started walking from my house to a certain destination. And that place was none other than―Kikyou Kindergarten.

By the way, today’s outfit wasn’t the elegant dandy door-to-door salesman of yesterday, but a handsome young guy who looked like an actor in his early 20s. He wore glasses and gave off an intelligent and clean impression, but he had a gloomy side to him too. He was also carrying a backpack.

Sol wasn’t by my side. I had her go to the Fukuzawa’s house yesterday evening, just to be on the safe side. That was to deal with the potential dungeonization of the house, if it ended up occurring. I didn’t want something to happen to such a large client.

As long as Fukuzawa Kanna could be protected, there was room for negotiation. But if she died, it would all amount to nothing. Thus, I told Sol that I wanted her to stay by Kanna’s side and protect her. I left it up to her to figure out how to do that.

About an hour later, I arrived at Kikyou Kindergarten. I had already visited yesterday, so I wasn’t that nervous. But when I saw a car come to a stop in front of the kindergarten, I couldn’t hold back a smile.

―The fish took the bait.

That car looked familiar to me. That was because it was the same luxury car that went in and out of the Fukusawa family’s estate. The fact that it was parked here was proof that things were going as I had planned.

I hardened my resolve and approached the kindergarten. Right at the entrance, there was a woman sweeping the floor with a broom, so I approached her.

“Excuse me, is the principal here?”

When the principal came out not long after, there was a man who wasn’t unacquainted with by his side.

…Without a doubt, this person is…

An amiable man with a fairly good physique. His appearance matched what I had heard about him. This man was the master of the Fukuzawa family―Fukuzawa Jouichirou.

“Well, well, we’ve been waiting for you, Torimoto-san.” (Kindergarten Principal)

“Ah, hello Principal. I apologize for intruding so suddenly yesterday.” (Torimoto)

Yesterday, I dropped by to ask if they could spare me some water. If I had been turned away at the door, that would have been the end of it, but they ended up graciously welcoming me and offering me a glass of water.

To show my gratitude, I asked if there was anyone here who was injured or troubled by illness. After hearing that Ryosuke-kun was in bed with a high fever, I figured I could take advantage of this. It had been going smoothly up until this point, but I had to be a bit pushy to allow them to meet him, saying I had a method of curing Ryosuke-kun.

After curing Ryosuke-kun in a certain way, I followed the original plan and told those present that I could come back to check on him the next day at noon, introducing myself to them as a Restorer.

I had looked into it and found out that Fukuzawa Jouichirou often visited this kindergarten. I knew that if I continued to come here and make an effort to cure injuries and diseases, I would definitely catch Jouichirou’s interest before long.

“How is Ryosuke-kun doing?” (Torimoto)

“Yes, allow me to lead the way. Please come in.” (Kindergarten Principal)

I was led to the kids’ room where the children always gathered and played. I was aware that Jouichirou was leveling a watchful gaze at me.

“Ryosuke-kun! Torimoto-san is here!” (Kindergarten Principal)

Ryosuke-kun suddenly looked over, and seeing that it was me, he ran over happily. Ryosuke-kun’s mother and father, whom I had met yesterday, were also there and followed after him.

“Onii-chan! You came again!” (Ryosuke)

Ryosuke approached me with an innocent smile on his face, and I reached out to pat him on the head.

“Hey, how have you been since then? Feeling better?” (Torimoto)

“Yeah! Today too! Guess what? This morning, I ate a tooooon!” (Ryosuke)

“That’s awesome! Way to go, Ryosuke-kun!” (Torimoto)

“Eheheh~!” (Ryosuke)

“Torimoto-san, thank you so much for yesterday,” Ryosuke’s parents said as they bowed to me.

“It was nothing. As long as he’s feeling better, I’m glad.” (Torimoto)

“Come on Ryosuke, don’t be too selfish!” (Ryosuke’s Mom)

“She’s right. If you’re too pushy, they won’t like it.” (Ryosuke’s Dad)

Ryosuke was a bit crestfallen after being advised by his parents.

I turned my gaze back to Ryosuke and said, “I’ll come again, so we can play next time, okay?”

“Awwww….” (Ryosuke)

“In return, I’ll give you this.” (Torimoto)

I opened my backpack and took out some sweets, which would surely please the kids.

“Here, go ahead and kindly share them with everyone, okay?” (Torimoto)

“Are you sure? Thanks, Onii-chan!” (Ryosuke)

I handed the bag of sweets to Ryosuke, and he happily went back to play with the other kids.

“Are you sure about this? Sweets are rather precious food items nowadays.” (Kindergarten Principal)

“Ah, by the way, Principal. Do you happen to have a room available for a quiet discussion?” (Torimoto)

“Eh?” (Kindergarten Principal)

“Well… there seems to be a person who wants to speak to me.” (Torimoto)

I turned my gaze to Jouichirou again, and he also turned to the Principal and said, ‘if you please.’ The principal saw to it, and Jouichirou and I ended up borrowing the principal’s office. Jouichirou had said that he wanted to talk alone with me, so everyone left until it was just us two in the room.

When I entered the principal’s office, I stood by the window and gazed outside.

“It’s a great day outside today. On a day like this, it might be nice to go hiking in the mountains.” (Torimoto)

“…The mountains, huh?” (Jouichirou)

Huh? For some reason, the atmosphere seemed to take a dark turn. Perhaps he had some bad memories of the mountains or something.

“The kids here are so nice, and everyone has a smile on their face. It’s a great place, don’t you think so?” (Torimoto)

“…I suppose so.” (Jouichirou)

It seemed that he wanted to get to the point as soon as possible. That was the intention that he was giving off.

Then in that case, let’s get on with it quickly.
