Chapter 89 – Purchasing an Uninhabited Island

“…A book?” (Shiki)

“A book.” (Bouchi)

“…It’s massive.” (Shiki)

“Sure is.” (Bouchi)

The book that I’d taken out was far larger than a normal book. I mean, it spanned three meters in length and was two meters wide. It was certainly a strange sight to see it floating lightly in the air before my eyes.

“We’re getting on. Come on, Shiki.” (Bouchi)

“Ah, understood.” (Shiki)

Shiki climbed on top of the book, looking a bit uneasy. The book could be controlled using only my mind to ride through the sky.

This was the [Jet Book]. It was a flying book, essentially.

“……Why is it a book?” (Shiki)

“I really wonder about that, too…” (Bouchi)

I honestly had no clue whatsoever. Well, I was just happy to have a means of transportation that allowed me to fly freely in the sky. But it had cost me ¥100,000,000, which was quite the expense.

But I could also use it as a shield, so it was an extremely useful item.

I sat down on the book and said, “We’re going to fly now then.”

Shiki held onto me from behind. Then, the book began to fly, gradually accelerating as we soared along.

According to the description, it could go as fast as a jet plane, as the name might have suggested. Moreover, the person riding the book wouldn’t be affected by the wind. It really was the epitome of a fantasy item.

It could fly at roughly 800 to 900 km/h. Normally, such a speed would send anyone sitting on top of the book flying right off. Even if I tried to endure it, I definitely wouldn’t be able to breathe, and all my hair would probably get blown off by the wind. In fact, it might just take all of my skin with it, too. Then, I’d be a skeleton before I knew it. That would be a nasty way to die, indeed. Well, that wasn’t going to happen though.

Without feeling any wind pressure at all, we left Yonaguni Island at a tremendous speed, watching as it grew smaller and smaller in the distance.

“Which direction are we heading in currently?” (Shiki)

“East, for now. If we keep going south, we’ll end up in the Philippines, and I want to avoid there if possible.” (Torimoto)

“….Then shouldn’t we have started further east to begin with?” (Shiki)

“…….No, I just wanted to take the time to go to Okinawa while we’re here, I guess.” (Bouchi)

To be honest, I had come here without thinking too much about it. It certainly would have been more efficient to set out from Chiba or that side.

""

“Well, we don’t get to experience air travel all that often. This is nice, too!” (Bouchi)

“That’s true. This one is satisfied as long as milord is happy.” (Shiki)

Ah, what a great guy. Familiars are the best.

Humans might treat me coldly, but he and Sol would always look at me with warmth and acceptance.

…Though there were still times where they made me want to retort at the things they did, in the end I’d resign myself to it because it was their nature.

After moving eastward for a while, we came to a place where there was nothing around except the deep blue horizon.

“Right about here looks nice. Well then, let’s get out that uninhabited island that I bought.” (Bouchi)

I opened up the <Box> and took out the uninhabited island. Then, just like in a game, it appeared before my eyes like it had been there all along.

““Whoaaa~!””

Shiki and I both unintentionally let out an exclamation of excitement.

The coastline was filled with white, sandy reefs and beaches. There were grassy areas, forests, and more, making it look totally worthwhile to explore.

“It sure is large.” (Shiki)

“I guess so. It’s about 20,000 square meters.” (Bouchi)

“20,000?! That’s really quite impressive…” (Shiki)

But ¥200,000,000 was a small price to pay for such a large area.

“This is nice, I’m actually feeling really excited about this.” (Bouchi)

It felt like I was the king of a country. The thought of having this entire island as their own domain was enough to stir any man’s heart.

“First, let’s go and explore.” (Bouchi)

Flying slowly, we looked around the uninhabited island. When we entered the forest, I observed thickly grown trees and grass that I had never seen before.

Since the island was purchased from another world, it was full of plants that didn’t exist on Earth. Some of the trees bore fruit that resembled apples, while others had what looked like coconuts. There were also many grasses and flowers that I didn’t recognize, not even from picture books.

With an area that was as vast as nearly 20,000 m², I would naturally want to create a place to live with a good vantage point. Thus, we made our way towards the grassland area, which was elevated like a mountain plateau.

""

“Hmm. I can see the ocean from here, and the breeze feels nice. Let’s build the house here.” (Bouchi)

“Did you buy a house too, milord?” (Shiki)

“It looks totally out of place, but… this is my island, so who cares.” (Bouchi)

A single family home placed all alone on an empty grassy plain made for quite the strange sight. But then again, I felt like it had a somewhat unique flavor to it, so I decided to leave it like that.

“Now then, next up is this.” (Bouchi)

The item I was holding in my hand was the Dungeon Core. Apparently, it was possible to create a dungeon by simply placing a core in the place you wanted. However, it was dangerous to place it in such an obvious location. It was necessary to put the Core in a location where it couldn’t be easily accessed by outsiders or enemies.

“In which case… perhaps a Core Monster would be nice.” (Bouchi)

A monster that could move and protect itself would be more convenient.

“Errr… What should I do in this case?” (Bouchi)

Suddenly recalling the explanation of the Core, I muttered ‘oh, right’, and I put the Core on the ground. Then, a prompt appeared before my eyes.

[Do you want to set the Core? Yes/No]

I selected ‘Yes’ and proceeded as instructed.

[Would you like to establish a Core Monster? Yes/No]

Naturally, I chose ‘Yes’ and came to a selection of monster choices.

There were no S-Rank monsters, but there was a wide range of monsters to choose from, ranging from A-Rank all the way to F-Rank.

However, there was one monster that caught my eye. I designated it as the Core Monster, and then…

—Boom!

Something appeared right before our eyes.

“T-This is…!?” (Shiki)

Shiki reflexively took a battle stance. Well, it couldn’t be helped. After all, it was the same guy that he had fought in a life-or-death battle just the other day.

“Grraaaaahhh…”

Its pitch black body stood at 10 meters tall, and it was carrying metal clubs in both hands.

—It was none other than the black ogre.

“Nothing needs to be said about this guy’s strength. I’m sure he’ll do his job as a Core Monster just fine.” (Bouchi)

“I see. There is indeed nothing to criticize about this guy.” (Shiki)

It was the strongest Core Monster at this point. Shiki might be stronger, but the Core Monster couldn’t leave the dungeon. If I gave him the Core, I would have to buy another monster just to protect him. That would be a bit of a waste.

[Would you like to add monsters? Yes/No]

Next, it seemed that I had a choice to select the monsters that would appear on the dungeonized island.

As I watched the selection screen, different monsters that I chose appeared one after another before my eyes.

The dungeon monsters couldn’t speak, but they could apparently understand my words.

So…

“Alright, I’m going to have you guys go out and explore the uninhabited island. You will be creating a favorable environment for fishing, farming, building houses, and so on. But you all don’t have the know-how. So—come on out.” (Bouchi)

I opened up the box and took out a certain being. What appeared before me in a puff of white smoke was—
