CH 90

Chapter 90 – White Familiar

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me your Familiar, Master.”

—There was a single crow.

However, its plumage was a beautiful, immaculate white. It was a crow with white feathers, which was a true rarity in this world.

It was sometimes talked about in Japan, but of course, it was no ordinary crow.

Its name was—Wise Crow.

The Wise Crow was extremely intelligent and possessed a vast amount of knowledge, earning it the alias ‘Flying Library’. Not much could be expected from it in terms of combat power, but it was rare even in other worlds. Those who were referred to as sages often kept them by their sides for their entire lifetimes.

“Your name will be Izu.” (Bouchi)

“My, to bestow a name upon one as trifling as this. I will humbly oblige.” (Izu)

Anyone quick on the uptake would know why I had purchased her.

“Listen, Izu. From this day forward, I appoint you as the acting caretaker of this island. Grant these beings knowledge and help them develop this uninhabited island.” (Bouchi)

“Ah… An assignment right away, is it? I will devote my heart and soul to this task.” (Izu)

Izu had a look of ecstasy on her face, but then she looked away from me and turned a sharp gaze towards the monsters.

“STAND AT ATTENTION!” (Izu)

As if a switch suddenly had been flipped, Izu did a complete 180 from before, letting out what sounded like an angry bark. Her voice was high-pitched and sonorous.

I almost found myself straightening my posture as well.

“You guys over there, why aren’t you obeying?! Stand at attention right this instance! I’ll knock you down!” (Izu)

“““Gigigiii!!!”””

The goblins, receiving the brunt of her attention, quickly straightened their backs and stood cleanly upright.

“Listen here, alright? You all only live and exist because of Master’s mercy. That is the first thing you all must understand.” (Izu)

Ah, no… I don’t really think about it that way though…

But I didn’t feel like butting in, so I kept silent.

“If you want to live and eat good food, you must pay the appropriate price. It’s simple. You just need to dedicate yourself to working for Master’s sake alone. Master is absolute! He is our king! Now repeat after me!” (Izu)

Well, that being said… monsters naturally couldn’t speak human language, so the monsters just roared and howled.

“You’re all way too quieeeet! One more time!” (Izu)

After that back-and-forth was repeated several times, Izu finally seemed satisfied and began to declare once more.

“Put your hearts at ease. Master is a benevolent person. Those who are useful will definitely receive appropriate rewards. Isn’t that right, Master?” (Izu)

“Eh? Y-Yeah, of course!” (Bouchi)

What the heck, don’t just turn to me so suddenly like that. That caught me off guard.

“You all heard it, right?! What reassuring words! Mere monsters like us are being guaranteed a living as long as we work! As one would expect from our king! Now, repeat after me!” (Izu)

Ah, here we go again.

Maybe the monsters were just good at playing along, or maybe they had already been brainwashed by Izu, but they followed along regardless.

“I will bestow the corresponding knowledge that you all require. You all heard that? I will not allow cutting corners. We require no such thing in our beliefs. If you want to survive, you all must serve Master to the best of your ability. If we do, our Master will surely grant us salvation.” (Izu)

….Is this some kind of religion? I’ve somehow been turned into the founder of a religious sect before I even realized it…

But Shiki nodded his head contentedly, as if he was impressed.

These Familiars really have an incredible sense of loyalty, huh? Izu seems to be a cut above the rest though.

“Now then. Stand in line formation according to your respective races.” (Izu)

The monsters all moved in accordance with Izu’s words.

“You over there, stop dawdling! Your actions must always be swift! Cut down on the whispering! Hey, you over there, you want me to beat you senseless?!” (Izu)

Scary… She’s so scary…! W-Was she supposed to have this kind of personality?

Well, I wasn’t the target of any of that, so I couldn’t really say it was a problem, but… sure enough, the monsters didn’t want to get beaten silly, so they moved quickly into formation.

“…Master. Do you have a pioneering plan in mind?” (Izu)

“L-Let’s see… For now, the first priority is to create a self-sufficient environment. Also, I want to create an underground facility.” (Bouchi)

“Understood. Then we will move forward per your plan.” (Izu)

“Yeah, please do. Well, I’ll give you this, Izu.” (Bouchi)

The item I handed to her was [Telepathy Kibidango S]. It was of a higher rank than the ones I had given to Sol and Shiki and was also an item that had been uploaded recently to the Shop.

If she ate it, I could speak to her with <Telepathy> wherever she was.

“Here, you have one too, Shiki. I’ll also feed one to Sol later.” (Bouchi)

After buying it, I had forgotten to feed it to them earlier, so I gave Shiki his portion now. Shiki gave his graces and swallowed it in one gulp.

As for Izu…

“My, I’m terribly grateful for your kindness, Master. Ah, umm… If it’s possible… I have a small favor to ask you, Master.” (Izu)

“Hm? What is it?” (Bouchi)

“Ah, that’s what this is about? Sure, I don’t mind. Here, ahhhhn~” (Bouchi)

“…?! A-Aaahhh~” (Izu)

I fed Izu a kibidango, putting it in her mouth. Izu began to wriggle and squirm happily with an expression of pleasure, as if she were melting.

“Ah… So this is the legendary ‘ahhhn~’. To think that my dreams would come true so soon… Aaahh~ Master… I like you.” (Izu)

…A sudden confession out of the blue… But what am I even supposed to do here?

“U-Uhh… Izu?” (Bouchi)

“….?! Ahem! Excuse me, I seemed to have let my composure slack a bit. What’s the matter, Master?” (Izu)

“Umm… Can I leave the rest to you?” (Bouchi)

“Yes! Izu vows that she will turn this uninhabited island into a grand kingdom!” (Izu)

“No, you don’t really have to go that far… Well, I’m counting on you.” (Bouchi)

Izu made a joyful smile and replied, ‘Yes!’. After leaving Izu in charge, Shiki and I used a [Teleportation Crystal] to return to the Fukuzawa residence.

When I returned to the Fukuzawa residence, Sol, who had returned in the meantime, saw me and pounced at me while sobbing.

“Maaaster~!” (Sol)

“Whaa!? …What’s the matter, Sol?” (Bouchi)

“Where did you go~!? Sol couldn’t reach you with <Telepathy> and Sol got reaaaally worried~!” (Sol)

Ah, so that’s what it is. Her <Telepathy> messages certainly wouldn’t have reached me while I was on the uninhabited island.

After that, she told me that she had been searching the area, thinking that I might be in some kind of trouble. But of course, there was no way she could find me.

“My bad, my bad. On that note, there’s something I need to talk to you about. Before that, here, have this.” (Bouchi)

I gave Sol the same [Telepathy Kibidango S] that I had given to Shiki and Izu. After that, I told her about the matter with the uninhabited island.

“Puuu~… Sol wishes that you would have taken her with you, too.” (Sol)

“Sorry. You were outside of the range for <Telepathy> at the time. I was planning to explain it to you later.” (Bouchi)

“No no, Sol is sorry for speaking so selfishly.” (Sol)

“That’s not true.” (Bouchi)

This level of selfishness is pretty cute after all. I patted Sol, who was looking sad, on her head and feathers, and her eyes narrowed into cute slits, showing her pleasure and comfort.

“By the way, Master, what is this new Familiar like?” (Sol)

“Hm? Are you curious? She’s a monster of the same kin as you.” (Bouchi)

“Same kin… Is she also a bird type?” (Sol)

“That’s right.” (Bouchi)

“Puuu~! Sol is really looking forward to meeting her!” (Sol)

She and Shiki had a good chemistry and got along quickly, so I was grateful that this time was no different.

“….! Milord, there’s someone approaching the room.” (Shiki)

Shiki disappeared back into my shadow. I was already back in Torimoto form, so it would be fine if I just stayed like this. But the room was locked, so I went over to the door and unlocked it just in case.

—Knock, knock, knock.

After hearing the knock, I replied with, ‘come in’.

When the door opened, the person standing on the other side of the door was the master of the house, Fukuzawa Jouichirou.
