Chapter 123 – Connections with Otherworlders

“Thank you for waiting, Hakumen-sama.” (Seng)

“Ah, yes. Let’s hear what you have to say then, shall we?” (Hakumen)

“We, the Monkey Clan, would like to establish a connection with you.” (Seng)

Everyone suddenly knelt before me. None of the tribe members seemed to be dissatisfied with the decision.

“Understood. But there’s one thing I must say first.” (Hakumen)

“Yes, by all means.” (Seng)

“There’s no need to act so formally towards me.” (Hakumen)

“B-But…” (Seng)

“I’m here as a businessman, and our relationship is merely that of business partners. Despite our differences, our standings in this partnership are equal. Thus, you may treat me as you would any other garbel.” (Hakumen)

“…Then we will humbly oblige.” (Seng)

It seemed to be a somewhat difficult request for him. To them, fables and legends really did appear to be quite important existences in their lives.

Well, they would just have to get used to it.

“Please wait here shortly.” (Hakumen)

I left Yofel here in case something happened and returned to Joysprout Island with Shiki, then continued to travel further east on the [Jet Book].

We stopped when the island was out of sight. There, I purchased a new uninhabited island and set it up on the ocean.

The island was considerably smaller than Joysprout Island. Although it was unkempt and overgrown with vegetation, it was just the right size for those dozen or so people.

I set up a few wooden boats and some bare necessities for survival, such as nets, hunting blades, spears, axes, and so on.

Then, I headed back to Akita Prefecture, where Seng and everyone else was waiting. This time, however, I used a [Teleport Crystal] and brought them with me to the uninhabited island.

“““―?!!”””

Suddenly finding themselves in the middle of the distant seas on an isolated island, everyone stared in shock.

“This place will serve as your base from now on. This is an unexplored area, but I’m quite certain that you will be able to turn it into a comfortable place to live. To that end, I’ve procured the bare minimum supplies for your use.” (Hakumen)

“““Wooow~!!!”””

When they saw the things I had prepared for them, everyone let out a cheer, sounding moved.

“F-For Hakumen-sama to prepare such a place for us…! Hakumen-sama, thank you so much!” (Seng)

“Seng, consider this a forward investment, so to speak. From now on, I hope you’ll work hard.” (Hakumen)

After that, I explained to them what they would be doing from tomorrow onwards.

The women and children would mainly be responsible for constructing the basis of their lifestyle on the island. Even though they were female, they were stronger and more reliable than human males, so they would have no trouble cutting down trees and building houses.

The men, on the other hand, would go with me to Japan to help clear dungeons. We would work hard clearing dungeons for a few days, and then they would head back to their island with their results.

There, I would look over the collected materials with them, and we would negotiate to see what they wanted to keep and what they wanted to use to pay off the debt they owed me for what I had invested on them upfront, like the island and so on.

“We understand fully. There are no objections to this arrangement.” (Seng)

“Good. I’m looking forward to your cooperation starting from tomorrow. But today, I have prepared some food for you, just to celebrate the occasion. There will be enough for a few days, so please be sure to plan accordingly as you eat it.” (Hakumen)

With that, I got on the [Jet Book] and returned to Japan with Yofel.

I made contact with many other groups of otherworlders just like Seng’s group and proceeded to tie business contracts with each of them.

The otherworlders all came on board quite easily, since they would be offered food, clothing, and shelter.

However, it wasn’t possible for me to negotiate with all of the otherworlders. Even though I was buying cheap uninhabited islands for the otherworlders, my savings were slowly whittling away.

When I had a little less than ¥200,000,000 remaining, I stopped making contact with otherworlders for the moment.

“I only managed to sign four contracts, huh?” I muttered to myself as I sat on top of the [Jet Book], which was floating and swaying in the wind over the sea.

“Still, isn’t that more than enough for the first day alone?” (Yofel)

As Shiki said, this might really have been an excellent result. After all, each and every one of these contracts had a pretty good return.

If this were a company, it would probably be a big step forward, I suppose. Perhaps it was something like securing lifetime rental income on a high-class luxury condo.

“But my funds have really dried up as a result. I’m going to have to save for a while and do some bigger requests.” (Hakumen)

There hadn’t been any requests that would earn me a big sum of money all at once, like the ones with the Fukuzawa family and Kuzuhara Saito.

It was a good opportunity for me to go out to the different provinces and get in touch with the otherworlders, so I might try my hand at that from here on.

I wonder if there are any wealthy people out there who are troubled with a case that only I can solve… I thought to myself as I returned to Joysprout Island.

Sol and Izu were both happy to hear that business was set to flourish without any hitches.

That night, as I lay in bed, all I could think about was how I could make more money. Honestly, it didn’t really matter what methods I used. I could even directly sell the houses and buildings around me. That would be enough to get me to my goal one day. But that was no fun, and it went against my principles.

If possible, I wanted to reach the target amount through my own efforts. That said, I didn’t know exactly how much money I could make. No amount of money was too much, after all. There were simply too many useful things in the , so no amount of money would ever be enough to buy all of them.

Back when things were still peaceful in Japan, I probably could have lived the rest of my life without any problems with ¥200,000,000. But now, ¥200,000,000 would disappear in no time at all. Even if it were ¥1 billion or ¥10 billion, it still wouldn’t be enough.

“….What about ¥1 trillion…?”

It was an unfathomably enormous sum of money, and it would even be enough to rid me of any worries. However, even if I set such a tremendous goal, I didn’t know how many years it would take.

I was afraid that by then, the Earth would become a completely different place, filled with A-Rank and S-Rank monsters, and even the island would come under attack.

Before anything else, I had to increase my funds as soon as possible so I could improve my ability to defend myself.

“…Looks like I’ll have to work hard tomorrow for the sake of my leisurely, slow-paced lifestyle.”

I renewed my determination in my heart as I closed my eyes.

Some time had passed since I took in those groups of otherworlders.

The project was working out better than I had expected, and my dwindling funds were starting to see rapid growth, lining my pockets with cash.

I was pleasantly surprised at the garbels’ proficiency in combat. If they fought in groups, they could even conquer intermediate-rank dungeons in a short amount of time. However, there were naturally a few times where they clashed with the people of Earth.

It was no strange matter that rumors started to circulate about the unfamiliar appearances of the people who suddenly started devoting themselves to clearing dungeons.

The area where I used to live in the city was within the territory that the Apostles of Peace and Inochi-shirazu operated in, so I brought them to the area and had them clear dungeons there.

However, with an organization like the Apostles of Peace there, they eventually took notice of them. Moreover, the garbels were unable to communicate with them.

Just as they were about to go into a dungeon, they had an encounter with a local organization, which almost led to a fight breaking out. But Sol, who was on patrol, gave me a timely notice, and I hurried over to break things up and take them away.

In fact, these kinds of incidents would only prove detrimental to us. If possible, I wanted to have a relationship of mutual interests with the people of Earth and the hurons.

And at the moment, I was trying to make contact with such local organizations so that I could establish a good relationship with them and inform them that these otherworlders weren’t out to harm them.

In fact, I also ended up demonstrating to them that a party of otherworlders led by me could conquer dungeons that were previously intractable to local organizations like them.

Local organizations thought of dungeons and monsters as detestable existences. Thus, they probably wouldn’t hesitate to try and use us to eliminate them.

As a matter of fact, the head of the organization, seeing our power, asked us to aid them for the sake of the city’s peace.

However, we weren’t out here to do charity work. In the end, I was taking action all in order to earn money and make a living.

As a result, I immediately moved forward with discussing business with the organization. This was how I’d hoped things would go. I was a bit nervous because things were happening a bit faster than I had initially expected, and I’d almost screwed things up, but in the end it just barely ended up turning out the way I wanted.

Just like this, I managed to form connections with local organizations, taking on their requests for clearing dungeons and defeating monsters.

I also promised the garbels that I would naturally compensate them with the appropriate cut of rewards from the requests and even give out special rewards to individuals who performed exceptionally well.

Due to this, the garbels were much more driven in their efforts, and their dungeon-clearing efficiency ended up increasing.

In this manner, I took in otherworlders, connected with local organizations, and proceeded with the development of Joysprout Island.

A month passed by in the blink of an eye, and before I knew it, my wealth displayed in the exceeded ¥1 billion.
