Chapter 163 – Work on the Island

We arrived on a beach with a vast expanse of ocean filling our view as far as the eye could see.

When I let go of Totoki’s hand, she let out a reluctant ‘ah’ and held the hand I had grasped tightly in front of her chest.

“Where… are we…?” (Aika)

Totoki’s older sister looked around in shock at the sudden change in scenery.

I was about to explain, when—

“Hm? I thought I sensed a presence over here. Looks like it was just you, Bouchi.”

It was D’esta who appeared before us.

“A m-maid…?” (Koine)

Totoki seemed surprised to see someone dressed in a maid’s outfit on what was clearly an island.

“D’esta, huh? Good timing. I want to see the old man and the princess. I brought the personnel you were looking for.” (Bouchi)

“Hoh? So it’s these people…? There appears to be a young child though…?” (D’esta)

“She was just brought along because she’s family. More importantly…” (Bouchi)

“Yeah, I understand. Then follow me.” (D’esta)

“B-Bouchi-kun?” (Koine)

“I know you’re confused, but just follow her. She’ll introduce you to your task.” (Bouchi)

“Eh…? This is where we’ll work…?” (Koine)

Totoki and her older sister looked astonished. Well, it was only understandable. A rapid series of incomprehensible events had happened to them, one right after the other.

As I followed D’esta, I informed Sol, who was flying around the world, about the acid spout and asked her to go gather information.

Totoki and her sisters were at an even greater loss for words when they saw the huge mansion seated on the crest of a hill on the island.

The girls were led into the mansion and instructed to wait in the guest room.

While D’esta went to call Rajie and the others, I began to explain the situation to Totoki and her sisters, who seemed to be dying to know.

“First of all, let me tell you where you are. This is an uninhabited island in the sea southeast of Japan. Well, it’s not uninhabited anymore.” (Bouchi)

“An uninhabited island? …How did we get here?” (Koine)

“By using a special item. It’s a kind of mysterious item much like the flying book that you saw before, which defies the concepts of science.” (Bouchi)

“There’s something like that…?” (Koine)

“O-Oh right, what about our house? Bouchi-kun, where did our house go?” (Aika)

“You can relax. It’s fine, I have it with me.” (Bouchi)

“You… have it?” (Aika)

“Yes. It’s, well… thanks to a certain item that lets me store whatever I want.” (Bouchi)

“There’s something that convenient…? Honestly, my mind is all sorts of jumbled up right now.” (Aika)

“S-Same here…! But does this mean you can also take it out whenever you want?” (Koine)

“Yeah. I was originally planning to bring your entire house here.” (Bouchi)

Totoki exclaimed, ‘is that true?!’, and I nodded once before answering.

“I could have brought you and your sisters here and left the house alone, but after I heard you say that…” (Bouchi)

“That?” (Koine)

“You said that Ma-chan wanted to live in this house, didn’t you?” (Bouchi)

“So I figured that if I brought the whole house, there would be no problems.” (Bouchi)

“Bouchi-kun… Thank you for taking Mahina’s thoughts into consideration.” (Koine)

“I’m very grateful for that too. Thank you.” (Aika)

Well, I know all too well how important a house can be to someone. I, too, didn’t want to lose my house, which was filled with memories of my parents.

They wouldn’t have wanted to lose their house either. Especially Mahina, who despite being so young, was living separately from her mother.

“But I sure was surprised. It was all so sudden.” (Koine)

“Yeah, really. The reason you brought us here in such a hurry was definitely because of that water spout, right? Do you know what that was, Bouchi-kun?” (Aika)

“…Kaza—oh, right. Kaza is that guy over there in the kimono. He’s something like a subordinate of mine. Anyway, I asked him to keep an eye on the area. At the time, he reported that there was water spouting out of the ground not far from our location.” (Bouchi)

“Could that have been…?” (Koine)

I assented to Koine’s words and continued.

“Kaza investigated and found that it was actually acid. And a very strong acid, at that. No, perhaps it’d be more appropriate to call it a dissolving solution at that point.” (Bouchi)

“A dissolving solution… Certainly, the parts that came in contact with the acid rain were getting melted.” (Aika)

“Then that means you’ve saved us again. Thank you so much, Bouchi-kun.” (Koine)

Koine thanked me with an apologetic look on her face. She was probably a little held up by the fact that she was always being saved or helped in some way by me.

“Don’t worry about it. I’ve already pretty much hired you as employees now.” (Bouchi)

“Ah right, about that. This is where we’re going to work, right? What do we have to do exactly?” (Koine)

“About that. Let me give this to you first.” (Bouchi)

I handed each of the two of them a pair of [Translation Earrings]. After they put them on, I had them talk with Yofel.
