Chapter 188 – Caretaker

TL: Sponsored chapter (1/2). Thanks for your support, Al!

—The next day.

Unexpectedly, I woke up feeling refreshed.

I thought that someone would try to assassinate me in the middle of the night, which was why I had Shiki and Kaza stay on guard during the night. But the fact that I had woken up like this meant that no one had attacked me.

It was now around 7:30 in the morning. Since I went to bed yesterday at around 11:30 PM, the effects of the [Shapeshifting Medicine] should have worn off by now. But when I woke up, I was still in Torimoto form.

This was because I had purchased and taken the product that had appeared in the newly updated <Shop>, the [Shapeshifting Medicine S], which was a better version of the original [Shapeshifting Medicine].

It had the effect of doubling the transformation time from what was previously 6 hours into 12 hours.

With this [Shapeshifting Medicine S], I would be able to work and sleep much more comfortably since my transformation wouldn’t be dispelled for an entire half a day.

I went to the restroom in the room and washed my face at the sink.

I was about to head back when I saw someone with a tray standing in front of the room.

“…It’s you.” (Torimoto)

“…?! U-Umm, umm! G-G-Good m-m-morning!!”

“Good morning, Saniwa-san.” (Torimoto)

It was Saniwa Riwa. The fact that she was here naturally meant that…

""

“We brought you breakfast. I really don’t want to be giving food to a man, but Founder-sama ordered it, so I had no choice.”

She was as tsun-tsun as ever. Of course, there was no -dere part to it. Today, as always, Shakuhara was in top man-hating shape.

(TL: Tsundere)

“U-Um! I’ll leave it here! When you are done eating, please leave the tray here again. I’ll come back for it!” (Saniwa)

There was a cart next to the room, and Saniwa put the tray on top of it.

“Damn it, why do we have to be this guy’s caretaker…?” (Shakuhara)

Shakuhara grumbled to herself, looking seriously disgruntled. I wanted to tell her that she didn’t have to come if she really didn’t like it. But Saniwa was here, and it was better to think of the two as a pair.

But I heard a somewhat curious word.

“Caretaker? You guys?” (Torimoto)

“What? Don’t talk to me.” (Shakuhara)

It seemed that she didn’t feel like explaining.

“U-Uumm, you see… I-I volunteered for this r-role, so… yes.” (Saniwa)

“You did, Saniwa-san?” (Torimoto)

“Y-Yes… A-Am I being a b-bother by doing this…?” (Saniwa)

She gazed at me timidly, her expression looking like she was about to cry.

“No, I’m just surprised. I didn’t think that there was someone here who would willingly take care of a man, that’s all.” (Torimoto)

“That’s… because you saved me.” (Saniwa)

Did that mean that she couldn’t stand being indebted to a man? It was surprising. I thought that all of the people that lived here would ruthlessly trample over a man even if they had saved them.

“Come on, let’s go, Riwa! We still have to clean the lodging!” (Shakuhara)

“A-Ah, yes! W-Well then, we will be going now!” (Saniwa)

There was silverware and an assortment of dishes. Bread with margarine spread. Two fried eggs, lettuce and cherry tomatoes, and a glass of milk.

“Kinda reminds me of the school lunches from elementary school.”

That said, there was still a bit more variety in the school lunches. I picked up the tray and returned to my room.

“Milord, you aren’t actually going to eat that, are you?” (Shiki)

It seemed that Shiki was concerned that there was poison or some other substances in the food that could harm me.

“Yeah, of course not.” (Torimoto)

But I couldn’t just throw it in the trash, since it might cause some problems if it was found.

I stored all the dishes in the <Box>. That way, it would look like I ate them. If there was poison in the food, only the person who tried to poison me might know that I didn’t eat it.

I put the tray with the empty dishes on top of the shelf in the room and sat down on the bed.

Well then, what should I do today?

Sayuri said that she wanted me to help her. If that was the case, they probably wouldn’t be keeping me locked up in here forever.

She’ll probably request something of me, so there might be some action today.

Until then, I guess I’ll sit quietly. Ah, come to think of it, I didn’t convert yesterday’s reward…

It was the jewelry that I had received for saving Riwa. I immediately opened the <Box> and sold them for ¥40,000,000. It was more than twice the price of an [Elixir・Mini], which was an adequate result.

“Maybe it’s about time to buy a skill and learn it…?”

Even after buying one, I would have plenty of cash. But still, I found myself thinking about it. I wasn’t sure if a better skill would appear in the future.

It happened a lot in games. You save up and finally buy a good weapon, but as soon as you go to the next town, you find an even better weapon.

After purchasing a skill right now, another skill superior to that one might soon appear.

For example, Kuzuhara had the skill <Impact>, which was indeed useful in combat. However, there would definitely be something better than that in terms of combat skills.

I wanted to only purchase the best skills, if possible, and avoid any unnecessary expenses.

Fortunately, I wasn’t in a hurry to purchase any skills, since I hadn’t encountered any particularly urgent situations.
