Chapter 82 To Save Or To Kill?

"Sinister?" Ren Ye replied solemnly before adding, "It has a long history to its name."

Old Yi nodded his head calmly before turning to look ahead with a frown, "We shouldn't rush yet."

"I believe it is better if we navigate around the area first before we start digging for the child's remains. It is to find a way to resolve the crisis of being unable to find an escape route in case we encounter an emergency."

Ren Ye shared the same thoughts as Old Yi as he raised one of his feet and teleported himself to a completely random place.

As he came to a stop and laid his feet onto the soft and grassy ground, he stumbled upon a stream of water. It had clear and transparent water flowing from the source that Ren Ye believed to belong to a natural spring water.

Ren Ye casually placed his hands into the water and scooped up a handful of water, smelling it. He remarked coldly, "Smells rather fresh and ordinary."

He was using Rein Lang's way of identifying his surroundings, his sense of smell. Ren Ye's sense of smell couldn't be compared to Rein Lang's nose as Rein Lang was much more skilled in such matters.

Back then, Rein Lang was in charge of identifying the problem and the culprit whereas Ren Ye had to deal and execute the plans.

Sometimes, Ren Ye would call Rein Lang, 'The Wandering Dog' just to praise his smelling skill. Of course, Rein Lang didn't take any offense to his words. In fact, he even thought of it as Ren Ye's only pleasant compliment of him.

"Look into the body of water," Old Yi quickly pointed out. Ren Ye immediately turned his head to look at it as Old Yi had pointed out.

In the water, he could distinctly see a glimmering light dissipating before appearing once again. Ren Ye's eyes trembled as he opened his mouth in shock.

"Gems?" Ren Ye called out with pleasant surprise written all over his face, "How did they appear here in the first place?"

"They are called Energy Gems," Old Yi curled his lips into a mischevous smirk, "Although they look pleasant to stare at. Other than that, they are pretty useless."

"…"

Ren Ye didn't continue to speak any further as he slowly put his hands underneath the water surface, grabbing five of them and drying them with his sleeves.

"What are you planning to do with it?" Old Yi was curious.

"I will turn this into a necklace for Ren Jia," Ren Ye said in the blandest tone he could possibly do.

"Mm. Heartfelt gift, indeed," Old Yi chuckled slightly.

Ren Ye calmly raised one of his feet and teleported to another location. This time, he was high above in a tree for some reason. Ren Ye didn't complain nor did he bother to drop himself down onto the ground.

As he felt there wasn't anything worthy for him to look at and about to raise his foot, he suddenly overheard an extremely loud scream from a woman.

Ren Ye, in his Qi Yun's form, didn't shake nor was surprised by this unpleasant surprise. He slightly tilted his head and calmly whistled to the open air.

Although it was completely random of him to whistle, it was his way of attracting others's attention. After that, he completely dropped to the ground with his swift feet and teleported to the exact location they were at.

This time, he teleported onto a tree that allowed him to see what was happening in hindsight. Ren Ye's eyes lowered calmly, laying his eyes onto a group of young men and women surrounded by what seems to be wolves.

Gigantic wolves covered in long and disheveled fur with its drools dropping onto the ground as they surround them with the intention of devouring them whole.

As he appeared there quietly, all of them were looking in the direction that he once appeared in. They all appeared to have heard the whistle coming from him before that.

Instead of rushing to save them from the beasts, Ren Ye stood there idly and didn't do anything.

He didn't want to put his life on the line to protect a bunch of careless people who ventured into this forest without heeding the warnings. It would be better if they all suffer from the consequences of their own actions.

As they no longer became distracted by the sound, the wild beasts turned their heads and glared viciously at the group of adventurers. Ren Ye was able to see the color of their eyes.

Glowing red filled with hunger.

They must have not seen a human in more than two decades.

Ren Ye contemplated whether to save them or leave them there. As he saw the tears streaking down their face and their shaking legs.

Perhaps, it had been the humanity in his appearance or the humanity he saw from Rein Lang once before that he had saved a young girl's life from the domestic violence she had suffered from her own parents.

Ren Ye summoned the halberd in his hand silently as his eyes glimmered with cold energy, he raised it calmly and aimed at the heart of one of the wolves.

He inserted his energy and made sure Ice Concealment was at hand before deciding to make his move.

The monstrous wolves couldn't wait any longer as they rushed with their fangs to devour the group of travelers. Their eyes and aura became extremely sinister and vicious as they rushed forward.

They didn't bother to raise their heads as a silent figure slowly appeared above their heads holding a copper halberd in his hands, raising it to aim at them.

Ren Ye pressed one of his feet onto the tree bark and struck the target with all of his might, inserting his powers into the halberd and allowing it to take control of the entire staff.

The halberd swiftly flew across the group of people and struck one of the monsters in its heart, causing them to cry out in agony and eventually dying instantly.

Ren Ye mumbled under his breath, "Ice Concealment."

At that moment, his entire figure was shrouded in a block of ice. He was able to see through the transparency as he teleported himself right next to them.

The beasts weren't able to sense the figure standing in front of them as they were too startled from the sudden attack on one of their pack.

Ren Ye raised his hand and the halberd shook before magnetically flying straight into his palm.

Ren Ye used this opportunity to swing the halberd swiftly, giving him the motion of a hurricane current. As though they were able to sense him, they rushed forward with their claws and teeth.

Ren Ye raised the halberd and slowly swung it against their abdomen, it hit them with a soft thud. The sound of skin and metal meeting was brief but it was enough to forcefully push them further away from the group of crying imbeciles in front of them.

All of them were hit with the sudden force of Ice energy and was immediately pushed against a large tree, causing the tree to almost break out of its own roots.

Ren Ye used this opportunity to cascade his concealment away and raised the halberd swiftly, pointing it against their heart.

Swish!

It struck their core as it immediately died. Laying lifeless against the tree.

Only one remained.

However, it proved to be much more trouble to Ren Ye as this wolf was extremely quick with its response as though it had the mind of a capable warrior.

It retreated first and didn't appear in front of him.

Ren Ye calmly adjusted his spectacles before teleporting himself on top of a tree, "You really think you can hide away from me, little pup?"

Ren Ye chuckled sadistically as he said loudly into the open air, "You think you are capable of hiding away from the Wandering Soldier?"

As he said that, the group of people turned their heads to look at Ren Ye above their heads. All of them wore an extremely frightened expression but yet relieved as they believed themselves to have been temporarily saved from danger.

Ren Ye made his halberd disappear and silently took out his revolver, he aimed it at a random target with a vicious smirk all over his face.

From his point of view, it looked like he was pointing it at a random location but only the Wandering Soldier was able to see what hides behind there.

"Save your cries for another day," As he said that, Ren Ye pulled the revolver as a bullet shot out silently from it.

An animalistic sound was heard as it cried out in agony.

Ren Ye's smirk grew larger and more exaggerated.

"Good boy," He placed his revolver against his lips and kissed it with loving eyes.

Almost as though he had become Rein Lang in personality.

He dropped from the tree and stood in front of the group of people. His smile grew wider as he adjusted his spectacles, "Should I give you the same ending as those monsters too?"

His tone was extremely blood-thirsty, giving them the sense that they had encountered the same monster they were afraid to have been killed by just now.

Ren Ye's gentle eyes wavered as he dropped the hand holding the revolver, "Consider yourself safe and protected."

"But don't think that stupidity of yours won't get you killed," He raised the spectacles on his face before giving them a gentle smile.
