CH 40

C40 – I’m Under A Big Pressure, okay?

“May I enter and see him, then?”

Tang Yue pondered to himself. This queen is incredibly well-mannered and educated. She deserves respect within her social class.

“You may go inside, but please don’t bring too many people. That room may still serve a purpose in the future.”

Hu Jinpeng muttered under his breath, filled with disdain.

Queen Madame Hu didn’t think much of it and entered the house alone.

Tang Yue was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when the elderly man with a white beard emerged again. “The young master is right. We need to work together to ascertain the truth before reaching a conclusion.”

“Then how do you propose we ascertain it? How can you determine if Wang Zizhao’s leg can recover?” Tang Yue didn’t trust their medical skills, but he also had doubts about Western medicine in this era. He was afraid they wouldn’t understand.

“Why don’t we wait for a month before making a diagnosis?”

“Humph, are you implying that you’re afraid to let us see it?”

“How could that be? I’m simply concerned that you may not fully comprehend it. If that’s the case, let’s forget it. Pretending not to understand would only undermine the Queen’s confidence, wouldn’t it?”

The words spoken were incredibly loud, serving as a direct blow to the reputation of all the elder physicians.

Tang Yue didn’t intend to make numerous enemies for himself, but as a practitioner of Western medicine, clashes with traditional medicine were inevitable. The conflict couldn’t be avoided in the short term.

Instead of avoiding the issue, he decided to seize this opportunity to engage in a proper conversation with them. He didn’t expect them to fully accept it, but he hoped they wouldn’t interfere unnecessarily.

“I wonder if the esteemed seniors have observed the patient who underwent surgery earlier?” Tang Yue asked, wearing a friendly expression.

The crowd split into two sides, revealing the patient who had been instructed to move to the adjacent room for rest. The patient stared at Tang Yue with innocent eyes. Evidently, prior to Tang Yue’s arrival, the patient had been looked upon like a rare creature.

Furthermore, upon observing the patient’s less tidy appearance, it was clear that they had experienced an attack.

Tsk, what a group of ignorant old men!

Tang Yue approached the patient to help rebandage their wounds. While attending to them, he inquired, “Now that everyone has witnessed it, do you have any conclusions?”

“The suturing technique is excellent. It displays great attention to detail,” complimented an elderly man in a gray coat.

Tang Yue expressed his gratitude with a glance. The elderly man received the medical report and continued, “Unfortunately, the treatment approach seems somewhat excessive. It could have been resolved externally without the need for surgery. It appears unnecessary!”

Tang Yue considered himself fortunate for not having a beard, as it would have risen with indignation. He tried to explain in a gentle manner, “It is undeniable that the traditional bone reconnection method is highly effective. It is simple, fast, and safe. However, when the fracture is more severe than what you are accustomed to treating, should you still rely on the old method?”

“The bone connection technique has been passed down for centuries. Every doctor in this hall is highly experienced. Are you suggesting that they are inferior to you, young master?”

“That’s not what I meant. Each of us has our own strengths. In this moment, we should discuss how to utilize our strengths and minimize our weaknesses, rather than abandoning what we excel at.”

“You are arrogant!” The seasoned doctors silently held this disdainful thought.

Tang Yue pointed towards the patient who had been shot and said, “You all witnessed it just now. This patient has a severe fracture. While it can be treated using your method, did I not choose a different approach that did not result in his death? So why are you all dissatisfied? Are you trying to suppress me based on seniority alone?”

Everyone looked away, gazing at the sky, as if contemplating… and indeed, it seemed that way. If Tang Yue were an elderly individual in their fifties or sixties, they would likely have been more cautious.

At the very least, they would have waited until his treatment failed before collectively criticizing him.

Tang Yue was at a loss for words. “Don’t you know that there are geniuses in this world?” One sentence successfully fueled the animosity of the senior doctors.

Faced with the hostile gazes, Tang Yue found a seat and requested a glass of water from the butler. He continued, “Alright, there is no point in saying more. What matters is the outcome! If everyone wishes to know the conclusion now, why don’t we wait until Wang Zizhao wakes up and ask him personally?”

Tang Yue need not have voiced these words, as everyone had the same intention. With the Queen’s Ladyship present, they had to be on standby at all times.

“Why don’t we go and check on when Wang Zizhao will wake up? Let’s go and have a look first.” Someone proposed that they shouldn’t unjustly slander the young master without any basis.

The elderly man with a white beard subtly signaled to the apprentice alchemist beside him. The apprentice understood and started heading towards the house, but was halted by Hu Jinpeng.

“Not everyone can enter this room!” Hu Jinpeng’s face was fierce, and his tall, robust figure stood like an iron tower in front of the short and slender apprentice alchemist.

Tang Yue thought to himself, Oh no! He had forgotten that Wang Zizhao was still lying in the operating room because he got delayed by this group of people.

Tang Yue rubbed his nose and felt embarrassed, I was so enraged that I lost my focus. As the head physician, I actually forgot about the patient in the operating room.

Fortunately, Wang Zizhao was unconscious. Otherwise, he would have held this bitter experience against him.

A person with a narrow mind!

Wang Zizhao woke up not too long after. The moment he opened his eyes, he saw the queen sitting beside him, filled with concern and hope.

Seeing him wake up, Queen Madame Hu shed tears of joy. She glanced at his chubby legs and asked, “How are you feeling, my son? Are you in any discomfort?”

Wang Zizhao held her hand. “Mother, you’re worried. I’m fine.”

“Child, you always bear responsibility for everything. If Bengong hadn’t heard about this, would you have told your mother?” Madame Hu recalled how she had overheard palace servants criticizing her son earlier that morning, and it had filled her with anger that she managed to suppress.

This palace is a place where respect is given based on status. If her son were to lose his inheritance rights, then she, the disfavored queen, would lose her respect as well.

If she didn’t have the support of a powerful family, she would have long been relegated to a lower position.

Wang Zizhao was typically indifferent towards people, but his biological mother, Madame Hu, was his weakness. He had witnessed the cold and indifferent nature of the people within the palace. Naturally, he understood Madame Hu’s predicament.

“Mother, rest assured. Your son is feeling fine,” Wang Zizhao’s words actually held a tinge of guilt. When he woke up, he had immediately sensed the heaviness in his legs, as if they were bound by iron chains. Glancing at his heavily bandaged legs, he wondered if he should regret his decision.

Inside the house, the mother and son were engaged in a quiet conversation, while outside, an argument ensued for some unknown reason.

Madame Hu remembered the sight of Tang Yue bravely confronting the senior doctors of the Imperial Medical Office. She chuckled, “This young master from the Yueyang Marquis’s family is truly intriguing. He actually dares to challenge the esteemed doctors.”

Wang Zizhao’s lips curled slightly. “Indeed, he is a peculiar individual. I wonder how he came to be this way.”

Having spent a few years at the border, Wang Zizhao had witnessed the lives of the common people there. However, he had never encountered anyone quite like Tang Yue.

It seemed that this person needed to be thoroughly investigated.

He never suspected that Tang Yue was a spy from North Yue. If Tang Yue were truly a spy, he wouldn’t have taken such a risk to treat his injuries.

Tang Yue was undoubtedly one of the most sought-after enemies by the royal family for elimination.

Madame Hu shouted from outside, “Someone come!” Only then did the commotion outside subside.

A faint smile appeared at the corner of Tang Yue’s mouth as he spoke with feigned cheerfulness, “Looks like Wang Zizhao has awakened. You can shift your attention to him now.”

Please stop targeting him relentlessly. He’s already under immense pressure, okay?

Hu Jinpeng instructed someone to bring the sedan chair inside, intending to carry Wang Zizhao out. Coldly, Tang Yue reminded him, “Do you really want Wang Zizhao to sit in that sedan chair?”

Given Wang Zizhao’s current condition, there was only one suitable position for him: lying down!

Hu Jinpeng hesitated for a moment. “Then… should we use a stretcher?” God, would Wang Zizhao refuse to come out if he saw the stretcher?

Tang Yue nodded approvingly and shrugged. “Alternatively, you could bring in a bed to transport him.”

Hu Jinpeng was left speechless. He ordered someone to bring a stretcher.

Inside the room, Wang Zizhao observed as the stretcher approached. Although he narrowed his eyes, he remained calm as he was carefully placed onto the stretcher. He laid flat and was then escorted out of the temporary operating theater.
