Chapter 127 Turn Of Events

Lee Seng pulled his phone out and checked the time.

11:59am

"Well..." Lee Seng sighed. "If only my feelings could disappear as simple as I'm saying it." He chuckled and shook his head. "It's almost time for the event to start, so I'll leave you and your brother alone for now. There's a chance we might have to... work together, so..." Lee Seng waved and split from Jae. He wandered over to sit on the edge of the first row on the left side.

"Just make sure nothing else goes wrong between Noah and Chang, got it? Noah tends to be hotheaded, but he's at least not a numbskull and acts based on his feelings." Vickie said quietly to Manny. Manny nodded, not peeling his eyes from Lee Seng. Vickie tapped him and he looked at Vickie.

"What?" Manny asked. "I'm listening. Keep the musclehead away from Lee Seng. I can do that." Vickie's eyes went over towards Lee Seng and she noticed one of the Kang twins were talking to Lee Seng while the other one was sitting in the second row, near the entrance of the house right row ramp. His eyes were watching his brother and Chang having a conversation. Vickie could honestly feel the air was different amongst these two.

"Those twins were put under hospital watch until yesterday. They got here today. The Academy told us they're cleared to participate, but we should watch the one with the scars up to his cheeks." Vickie told Manny.

"Yeah, I know them." Manny nodded. His eyes quickly flicked from Jae and Lee Seng to Vickie. "Jae and Jason Kang. Jae's the one that Lee's talking to. Jason is the one with the scars on his cheeks. I can't really say what happened to them, but I'm pretty sure you've heard the rumors about the exam."

"Mmm. One of them lost control of their power and went further than they should have. The other twin stopped what he was doing to calm his brother down."

"They fought Lee Seng and Olivia." Manny quietly spoke. His eyes watched Olivia and the others awkwardly continuing a prolonged conversation with the other two transfer students. The other two transfer students were bandaged and one of them had a huge sling around their arm. Manny looked back at Vickie and noticed Noah was tapping his phone.

"I'll continue to watch like you asked. I don't want anything else to happen between Greenhorn and Lee Seng, but I'm more worried something might happen between those three." Manny motioned at the twins and Lee Seng. Vickie nodded and started to turn towards the transfer students.

"It won't take long to get them to draw lots." Vickie spoke louder. "Alright, you ready, Noah?" She moved over to meet halfway with Noah who was nodding at her. Manny sighed and turned around, watching Lee Seng plant himself at the last seat in the middle section, near the ramp they descended earlier.

Manny moved off the stage and down the steps. He moved over to Lee Seng and sat next to him and watched as Ritsuka and the others started to split.

"Alright, it was good to meet with you guys! If we're teammates, let's do our best!" Olivia cheerfully said.

"G-good to meet you guys too." The transfer student with a sling on his arm spoke. They split and sat towards the middle of the first row.

"You feel how---" Olivia was stopped with Evan covering her mouth and hushing her.

"You forget our friend is great at perceiving things with his eyes and ears." Evan shook his head. Olivia peeled his hand off and nodded. They moved and sat in the seats next to Manny.

"Why're you still here?" Lee Seng asked Manny. "I'm not gonna do anything."

"I know you won't. I just have to keep up my end of the favor." Manny replied. "After you draw groups, I will get out of your hair. I have somethings to attend to after this." Lee Seng nodded and settled in. Noah and Vickie moved to stand next to the podium.

"Alright, everyone!" Noah's bellowing voice spoke. "Let's start the briefing for your next and final event. The last event of Transfer Hell Weekend has been changed due to the circumstances of what happened a couple weeks ago." The screen behind Vickie and Noah lit up. It was an article on the goblin horde invasion. Lee Seng leaned forward.

'Crap, don't tell me...'

"Yes, that's right. You must've all heard about what's happening all over Capitol City and the smaller cities and villages. The Northeastern and some of the Midwestern states are recording and showing higher horde invasions the past month. Captiol City and the smaller cities being one of the five cities recording high and constant invasions." Vickie cleared her throat and looked at everyone. The screen had seemingly moved to different regions of the US recording invasions within the last month.

Capitol City was one of the biggest Wisconsin cities that grew from small city roots. The city flourished over the last twenty-five years because of the Creator calling the city his home. Capitol City became a fast growing city and most of the smaller cities and villages fled to Capitol City for safety. The city quickly became overpopulated and development had to be hastily made to compensate for the lives of millions.

"Captiol City is one of the safest cities in the whole country. Everything started here and grows from the city." Noah continued. "The horde invasions are a big topic, so we've decided the last event will be..."

"Aiding the horde invasion!" Vickie interjected. The eight transfer students began to murmur. Manny turned to watch Lee Seng turn to look at him.

"Is that... even possible?" Lee Seng asked.

"For Second Years and up. If this is the last hell event for everybody, that's a bit... much." Manny answered.

"Alright, alright." Vickie's voice shouted. The Third Years turned their attention back to them and the screen behind them turned white. "I know you must be wondering why you're doing actual field exercise as your test. Let me tell you, the Academy heads thought this was a great idea. You guys will be put into teams of four since their are eight of you. A staff member will be assigned to your group and you will have to follow their orders while out on the field."

"Also, since a staff member is being assigned to you, this will count as your first grade as transfer students." Noah added. The murmurs of the Third Years grew loud. Ritsuka and the others stared at each other and back at the Fourth Years. "These randomized groups won't count towards your actual field group you wish to create, got it? Listen closely Third Years, field work like this doesn't come often! If one of you is hurt, you must act accordingly to what the staff member tells you. Your partners life is your life. You are on the field and must be professional. You are at this Academy because the Academy expects a lot from you all!

"Act accordingly, be diligent, and smart while you're on the field. The staff members are there because they are willing to take Academy students. You are at one of the best schools in the country, so act like the best students!"

"I can't believe we're going on a field missions as our last hell event. What're they even thinking?" Evan spoke. "Isn't it a bit too risky?"

"Even if it is, we're gonna have to be put into the field one way or another." Ritsuka replied.

"Mmm, you'll have a well experienced staff member as your leader, so just follow orders accordingly and you'll be fine." Manny said. Lee Seng sighed and Manny turned to look at him. He leaned in and whispered, "Do you think you'll be fine? You were in the first invasion." Lee Seng moved his eyes right while keeping his face pointed at the Fourth Years.

"I'll be fine. I've improved enough. The invasions are mostly goblins so they shouldn't be too hard to handle." Lee Seng whispered.

"I just hope nothing bad happens to you guys out there." Manny pulled away and spoke louder to the group. "This will be great experience for you guys. You guys made Top 5 in the solo field exam, so you'll be able to handle a horde invasion." The others nodded.

"Yeah, we're capable. The Academy chose us as one of twenty transfer students for a reason. We are at the best Numbers Academy in the country." Manny nodded as Noah clapped his hands together.

"Don't get cocky. Just because you're at the best Numbers Academy in the country, doesn't mean you should think you'll be able to easily handle an invasion. It's chaotic. Decisions have to be made on the spot for the team and yourselves. Play it safe and listen to the staff member that's assigned to you." Noah said.

"With that, let's show you what groups you'll be in!" Vickie flicked her finger right and the screen changed. Two groups were written out on the screen. "These are your teammates for today. Your staff member has already been assigned as well."
