Chapter 186 - 186 - Letting A Traitor In

The afternoon sun shone brightly through the windows and the glass ceiling of the house. Zou Wei glanced up with a small sigh. His children had gone to work while he was still here doing nothing...

It felt very sad knowing that Yue and the other will be suffering and he will be here doing nothing but watch the quails and the chicken.

"Meow~" Blackie rubbed up against his leg.

"Do you feel bored too, Blackie? Do you suppose we can go work on the farms too? Yue said that the soil contamination will have to be cleared out before they even plant anything. Maybe I can start my work after that...." he whispered, caressing her fluffy fur. Suddenly, a small figure jumped out off of her nape onto his lap.

"Geez, Trexa don't scare me like that,"

Trexa rolled onto her back, rubbing, licking her arms and legs.

Zou Wei gently caressed her tummy, which was weirdly full of round things. "What have you been doing today? Sorry, I couldn't get you the lotus,"

Trexa happily squeaked, hugging his finger.

His eyes focused on the pond. The water had cleared off up and the plant that was flourishing just a day ago was nowhere to be seen. Even the small roots of it had disappeared.

"Darling, what should I make for lunch? I'm planning on making some egg drop soup and rice. Tian seemed to like it very much the last time I made it. What do you think?" his wife stood by the edge of the garden area with a small smile.

The quails and the chicken noticed and instantly ran towards her, clucking near her feet.

"They won't be here for lunch. We'll have morning leftovers,"

"They won't come? Why? What will they eat?" she carefully walked over to him, jumping over the huge pea vines that were spread on the ground.

"Wen said that the barracks will provide food for them. They will be eating there," he returned for his wife to come close. "Do you see that? The plant just disappeared. Is it normal?"

"It's definitely not normal," she peaked into the now clear water. Even the small dust had disappeared. "Do you think this water is safe to drink?"

Zou Wei pulled his wife onto the blanket he had spread on the ground. "Yue will get it tested..... Nui don't you get bored at home?"

She looked at him with a small sigh. "I do. I really enjoy going out and feeling the wind in my hair, but it's not ideal right. We are too old. We won't be able to even protect ourselves."

"I'm planning on working on the farms." He suddenly added.

"Why?"

"Simply..."

Zou Nui leaned her head on his shoulders. "We can talk it out with our children first. We still have our food stock here. It won't be safe to leave it all alone."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

They both sat up stiffly, glancing at the door.

"That must be Yue, right?"

"No, it's too early...." Zou Wei picked up the baseball bat nearby the door and peaked through the small hole. "Who is it?"

"Uncle... it's me. I'm here to return your boxes."

A stack of boxes was shoved in form of the small viewer.

Zou Wei glanced at his wife. "Did you give our boxes to anyone?"

"Yeah, I gave some dishes to Fan Xui why?" she curiously looked in. "that isn't Fan Xui. Little kid, who are you?"

"I'm a friend of Fan Xui. I just came to return the boxes," a soft voice replied from the outside.

Zou Wei and Zou Nui did not know what to do. Opening the door is potentially dangerous. But making a young man wait outside is dangerous to him too.

"Should we open?" Nui whispered, fidgeting with her clothes.

"I'll see to it," Zou Wei gestured for his wife to go a little further in and opened the door.

A young man smiled at him and handed the boxes. "Thank you so much. It tasted very good,"

"hmm..." he was about to close the door but the young man curiously poked his head in.

"Wow, your house looks like a jungle. Do you need any help to clean those vines up? I can work for free. Consider it as a payment for the food," the man smiled brightly.

Zou Wei looked toward his wife. She had been bugging him to clean the vines off the floor for a while now. But his back was aching too badly. He could not handle the physical labor of the process. So the house was left as is waiting for the younger children to deal with.

"Sir.... I swear I'm not a bad person.." the young man smiled sadly. "If you don't trust me, it's okay... I'll.. I'll just go back home...' he moved back with a crestfallen look.

"Come in," he gruntingly said.

The young man happily came in, taking the boxes from him. "I'll take it for you."

Nui looked at her husband with a deep glare. "Why?" she mouthed.

Zou Wei just sighed. "Yue and Tian will come back home tired. I don't want them to do the manual labor at home too..."

"But.... it's not safe Wei," she pinched arms slightly. "Tell him to go home,"

Zou Wei sighed. "Young man, what is your name?"

The young man's eyes roamed across the house with interest. "Oh it's Bai Liwei....." he said as he was dropping the things in the kitchen.

As soon as Zou Wei heard that name, his face went cold. "Get out,"

"E-excuse me.."

"I said get out now!"

"But sir.. you said.."

"Get out!" Zou Wei held the baseball bat to his face. "Out now,"

Liwei walked out with a pitiful look on his face. "I was only trying to help.

"We don't need your help," Zou Nui glared at him.

Pushing him out, they both closed the door and locked it from the inside.

"That bastard! How dare he walk in here acting all innocent?!" Zou Wei tossed the bat in anger. He could not control the rage anymore.

"Husband, who was that?" Zou Nui gently touched his stiff arms.

"That man.... he is somehow related to Yue's past life. He did not say it explicitly, but he secretly warned me to stay away from the person called Liwei. Shit... I let him in. Fuck."

"It's okay..."

"No, it's not... it's not okay. Nui, go prepare the guns and the bullets.. We might have to defend the house vigilantly from now on."
