Chapter 314 314 - New Family Member

Yue paused in front of his home. He peered at the puppy. It was as tall as a horse and it was very very dirty. He did not want to bring him in before giving him a bath. And his son was really susceptible to rashes for anything small he did not want to risk any ticks getting into the house.

"Why don't we give him a bath Chen ah?"

"Yes~ it will be so fun~" he happily hopped around.

He led the dog to the small backyard. Unlike his parent's place, Fan had a very small backyard. Yue had tried planting a few trees here but none of them grew up. So he just gave up this spot.

It was muddy and filled with grey sand.

"Sit," he made the dog sit and brought out a hose connecting to the kitchen sink. He gently hosed down the puppy first, cleaning off as much as dirt as they can.

"Chen ah, get some soap, please. Baby soap if you can darling. His hair is too delicate we need to use mild soap."

"Yes dad," he ran in and brought out a small bottle of liquid baby soap.

Yue gently massed it into the dog's matted fur.

Yue was much more impressed with this puppy. All through this, the dog remained very calm and silent.

"Good boy," he whispered softly.

The puppy's tail wagged ever so gently.

"What shall we name you hmm? What about horsey? Cutie?" he gently massed its chin. The puppy closed his eyes, letting him soap up that area well.

"He wants to be called Coco," Zi Chen said with a big grin.

"Oh is that so, then Coco it is. Welcome to our family little Coco," he gently kissed the cute doggy's head.

Puppy glanced up, wagging his tail with much more energy.

"Good boy, come on let's wash you off and give you a trim."

The mats were all over his body. It must have been too heavy for the puppy. Brushing it all out will take a very long time and it will be very painful for puppy so he decided to shave off an inch of his hair.

Puppy was a golden retriever. They had two coats shaving was not a good option for them. Dogs like that had to regulate their body heat during winter. Even if the weather was pleasant now it could get cold sooner. But Yue did not have any other option. The mats were too heavy, and it was slowing the puppy down.

After washing off all the dirt and grime, he started to gently cut off any large mats starting from his tail to his underbelly.

Puppy laid down, letting him trim his paws and his neck.

"You're such a good boy aren't you? Coco is such a good boy," he whispered, caressing his fur.

Honestly, it was very fun to touch his soft fur. After bathing puppy's fur had become soft and very smooth. It felt like touching a cloud. He loved it.

With Fan's trimmer, he started to shave off the hair.

Yue had worn a mask for this bit he had badly underestimated the amount of floof that would be flying around. In the end, the whole backyard looked golden white with fur at every corner.

Yue and Zi Chen were also covered with it.

Thankfully, his son did not seem to be allergic to Coco's hair.

"What do we do with this fluff?" Yue and Zi Chen collected it in a trash bag.

The hair was very useful for many things, especially to start a fire and it could be used as warming material as well. If any day they lose their home and have to stay on the streets they could shove a hand full of the fur inside their clothes and feel just as warm.

Yue sighed softly. This was what he used to do in his past life. He used to stuff paper inside his clothes just to keep himself warm.

He did not want his son or any of his family members to go through what he went through...

'Fan said the wall will hold... he said they survived last time. we can do it this time too. it's all going to be well and good,' he told himself mentally while he bagged these stuff up.

The puppy slowly approached him from behind and ever so gently licked his hand.

"Oh are you hungry dear?"

The puppy just looked at him with those soft eyes. Even with his botchy hair cut he looked very cute.

Yue could not help but hug him softly. "Come on in. we've had a long day. We can only end it with the best dinner ever,"

Zi Chen ran into the house first and prepared a spot for Coco to sleep in. it was right in the hallway near the door. He had laid down a thick duvet and even found a few bowls for him. "I got water," he said cutely.

"My baby Chen did good," he lifted him up and kissed him.

Small hair particles stuck to his lips.

"Why don't we both have a bath right now? let Coco rest here."

Zi Chen cutely nodded.

Yue kissed him once again. "Wait for me in the bathroom," he sent him off and found some food for the puppy.

As of now, they did not have any dog food. He was not even sure what this dog will eat.

They only had leftover rice and gravy. He mixed up a spoonful of it and gave Coco a taste if he would eat or not.

The puppy was more than enthusiastic to lick the spoon away.

​ "Looks like you love it. That makes things a lot easy for me... don't worry I'll see if we can find any dog food in the market. My mum can duplicate the bag and we can store it in Fan's basement.. If I can find space in there," he mumbled, mixing up a huge bowl of rice.

The dog anxiously stood beside him not making much movement.

All of puppy's actions only indicated one thing. Abuse.

Coco's previous owner must have abused him a lot. That's why he was very jumpy to even small movements. It's as if he anticipating him to hit him.

Yue was heartbroken by this.

He placed the bowl down and sat down next to him.

Coco paused. He did not move close to the bowl.

"It's okay baby, no one will ever hurt you. Come eat," he said in a soothing voice.

After a moment of hesitating Coco sat down and gulped down the food.

Yue waited until he finished eating to give him pets and praises.

The huge puppy was more than happy with the attention. He laid his huge head on his lap and slept silently.

"Yes little boy, you are in a safe home now. You have a loving family….."
