Chapter 143 – 1992-2020

Everyone panicked when they heard it.

Although they are all veteran players, however just because they are veteran players means they know how terrifying ghosts are and that they are not something ordinary people can face.

At this time, everyone looked at the sky. In the dark night, the moon and stars are sparse, but no ghosts can be seen. However, Little RenDong’s reaction really proved the existence of a ghost.

Isn’t this fucking more scary!

Everyone’s faces were pale.

Someone immediately collapsed, pointed at Lian Qiao and cursed: “What do you mean! Are you planning to just watch us die!”

Lian Qiao: “Not exactly.”

After saying that he quirked his lips towards Little Apple and took something out of his backpack: “Here, take it.”

Everyone saw something passing them by in the air like an arc. After being dazed, Little Apple subconsciously caught it and her hand felt heavy. It turned out to be the blessed crowbar!

Lian Qiao said indifferently: “I have lent you all my ghost treasure. What to do next is up to you.”

Then he pulled a wicker chair and sat down with the appearance of a big lord looking down from way up high, as if nothing mattered to him.

Everyone: “…” Why are you so calm, do you have some kind of freaking deal with this ghost!

Before everyone had time to question this, they heard a scream.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”

It was the person whose face was dripped with rainwater!

He saw a cloud of black mist hanging over his head, covering his entire head like blood droplets. There was a creepy chewing sound in the black mist and the man let out a shrill and inhuman scream, dancing and writhing like a headless fly.

Everyone took a big step back spontaneously and, with this person as the center, a large circle with a diameter of more than ten meters was emptied.

The man struggled and twisted in the middle of the big circle and soon fell to the ground with a thud. Blood flowed from his neck, soaking his clothes and pants. He fell to the ground and was still twitching, like a fish that had been disembowelled. Although his life was gone, his muscles still had nerve reflexes.

Something gradually emerged from the black mist.

They saw a monster with slender limbs and a belly as big as a drum lying on the ground, feasting on the corpse. It turned out to be the starving ghost that Lian Qiao beat off that night!

It was the same as last time. The hungry ghost only showed its original shape after harvesting a human head and it was hard to guard against.

The hungry ghost chewed up the human flesh and bones and swallowed it with a gulp, showing a happy expression on his face after eating.

Everyone watched with horror, knowing that the hungry ghost was physically immune and ordinary weapons are useless against it. Lian Qiao’s blessed crowbar must be used. Then someone pushed Little Apple and said: “Quickly, go!”

Little Apple was actually about to go up but, when the person pushed her, she became angry and said angrily, “I’m a fucking girl! Why make me do it and not do it yourself! You scumbag man!”

A trace of embarrassment flashed across the scumbag’s eyes but he quickly said confidently: “The crowbar is in your hands so who else can go except you!”

Little Apple didn’t hesitate  and threw the crowbar to him without hesitation: “Then you go!”

The scumbag: “…”

One corpse is not enough for a hungry ghost. Its mouth was so huge that it chewed up the corpse in just a few mouthfuls, leaving only minced meat and bones. The ground was like a cloud of blood exploding and the blood flowed horizontally, mixed with the stench of internal organs, making the scene extremely bloody.

The hungry ghost stretched out its scarlet tongue and licked its lips, then turned around and looked greedily at everyone. The backs of the crowd immediately got goosebumps and they quickly hid behind the scumbag, pushed him forward hurriedly and said, “Don’t refuse! Go up!”  and “You have the crowbar, what are you afraid of, are you a man?!”

The scumbag was forced to have no choice but to bite the bullet and rush forward, yelling to perk himself up.

Seeing someone rushing towards him, the hungry ghost’s eyes lit up. But when he saw the crowbar in the scumbag’s hand, he immediately became apprehensive. He tilted its head to avoid the scumbag’s seemingly brave blow but which was actually full of openings. The hungry ghost pinched the scumbag’s wrist and, with a click, the scumbag’s wrist was snapped off!

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!” The severe pain from the severed wrist made the scumbag lose his attack power in an instant.

Everyone: “…” Damn, even though I know that letting you go is sending you to die, who expected that you can also hand over the weapon to the enemy!

The hungry ghost pinched the scumbag man’s broken hand, holding a crowbar in his broken hand. Although the scene was a bit funny, everyone’s faces were pale and they couldn’t laugh.

Only Lian Qiao, who was sitting on a wicker chair in the distance watching the battle, burst out laughing.

“This is too good.”

Little RenDong sat on Lian Qiao’s lap, looking at the panicked and angry crowd with worried and puzzled eyes. In fact, he didn’t quite understand why Lian Qiao made such a move— although these players were useless, there was no need to let them die.

Xu RenDong always felt that a human life is a human life after all. If it can be saved, it should be saved. In the past, Lian Qiao also agreed with this point, but why this time…

Lian Qiao hugged him, stroked his hair gently with his fingers and said in a low voice: “Do you want to ask me, why didn’t I save them?”

Little RenDong nodded but then shook his head again.

Lian Qiao: “What do you mean by nodding and shaking your head?”

Little RenDong looked at the ground, as black as a crow’s feathers drooping low and he said in a childish but heavy voice, “Because I’m a burden. Just by yourself, you can’t protect everyone well.”

Lian Qiao smiled slightly after hearing this. He held up RenDong’s small face, looked into his eyes, and asked, “You’re feeling guilty again, aren’t you?”

Little RenDong lowered his eyebrows and said nothing.

Lian Qiao stared at him and said seriously: “The reason I don’t want to make a move is indeed because of you but it is not because you are a burden but because, other than you, everyone is an outcast in my eyes.”

Xu RenDong’s dark eyes were filled with shock. He wanted to speak but Lian Qiao pressed his lips with a finger.

“Hush.” Lian Qiao caressed those soft lips with some attachment and when his eyes slowly moved away, his voice became cold, “Stop talking, just watch.”

While the two people were distracted, the battle situation in the yard changed drastically again.

The crowbar was snatched away by the hungry ghost and everyone lost their magic weapon, so they had to flee in all directions. Some dared to pick up the hoes in the yard to fight the hungry ghosts but ordinary iron tools couldn’t do any harm at all. As soon as the hoe went down, although the hungry ghost was split in two, his figure flickered and he recovered immediately. The hoe was like being thrown in water, other than a little splash, it couldn’t even stir up a wave.

On the contrary, the person who attacked was held by the throat by the hungry ghost and held up high. The hungry ghost opened its bloody mouth wide and with the tilt of his head –

Bit the man in two with one bite.

Everyone’s heart shattered. They wanted to run back to the orphanage to hide but were shocked to find that the door was locked and no matter how hard they tried to break the door, it couldn’t be opened.

“Fuck! That fucking woman!” Everyone cursed the principal. However, scolding is merely scolding, and doesn’t change the crisis they are in presently.

Fortunately, the hungry ghost was far more interested in food than killing people. He stuffed the bitten body into his mouth and swallowed it whole. Too much flesh and blood slipped from the corner of his mouth, covering the hungry ghost in blood, making it even more terrifying.

The long-haired aunt had already collapsed, her legs were weak and she fell to the ground, covering her face and crying terribly. The others were also on the verge of collapse, retreating to the corner of the wall one after another, trembling with their backs against the wall.

There is an enchantment in this courtyard and they can’t get out, so how can they escape?

Can they only wait to die?!

Everyone was full of despair. Even Little Apple was fighting with trembling, her face pale.

However, unlike everyone else, Little Apple never gave up hope even though she was afraid. She looked around, as if trying to find a solution. Soon her eyes fell on the courtyard door.

The courtyard door was open. Little Apple thought of something and her eyes lit up. She moved towards the courtyard door little by little.

On the other side of the yard, Lian Qiao and RenDong, who were watching the fun, looked at each other and they both saw a look of appreciation in each other’s eyes.

I see. Little Apple is pretty smart.

But it was just that she couldn’t do it on her own and needed help.

Little RenDong gently pushed Lian Qiao, and said: “Go and help her.”

Lian Qiao got up and said, “Okay.”

After saying that, he picked up Little RenDong and walked towards the small western building calmly.

The gate of the western bungalow was locked tightly so no one hid there. Everyone scattered around the yard, looking at Lian Qiao, who had suddenly appeared, in surprise.

Was Lian Qiao finally going to help? !

Hope and doubt flashed in everyone’s eyes at the same time. After all, the only crowbar in Lian Qiao’s hand that was blessed had been snatched by the hungry ghost. Lian Qiao was only a mortal. How can he confront the hungry ghost head-on?

The hungry ghost successively devoured the man who had been cut in half and the man with the broken wrist. Two living people were devoured in an instant, leaving only a large pool of flesh and blood on the ground, which gathered into a terrifying pool of muddy blood.

The hungry ghost wiped his mouth contentedly, raised his head and his greedy eyes scanned the audience again.

Who should I eat next?

His eyes wandered over the crowd. Everyone he saw was terrified and the hairs on their backs stood on end, like a cat whose tail was stepped on.

Lian Qiao suddenly made a sound at this moment.

“Hello.”

He held Little RenDong in one hand, raised his other hand and hooked his fingers at the hungry ghost.

“Come here.”

Everyone was shocked, wondering what Lian Qiao intended to do with his bare hands. Only Little Apple next to the courtyard gate met his gaze from a distance across the entire courtyard.

Four eyes interlaced. The corners of their mouths raised.

“…” Only the corner of Little RenDong’s mouth curled down.

The hungry ghost naturally didn’t know that the two were plotting behind his back. Seeing the baby in Lian Qiao’s arms, his appetite greatly increased. He salivated and jumped at Lian Qiao with all his hands and feet.

Lian Qiao watched seemingly helplessly as the two-person tall monster rushed towards him but remained motionless. Little RenDong in his arms also showed no fear on his face, just quietly leaned against his chest, as if he was willing to bear it with Lian Qiao even if the mountain collapsed in front of him.

Everyone’s hearts were in their throats and they yelled frantically: What are you doing, you idiot! It’s fine if you want to die, why drag the key player to die together!

That’s our lifeline!

However, at this moment, even if other people wanted to rush up to save someone, it was too late. The hungry ghost had already pounced in front of him, its pale arms as thin as spider legs grabbed Lian Qiao’s arms and was about to snatch RenDong away in seconds!

Little RenDong reflexively closed his eyes. At the same time, Lian Qiao raised a hand and gently covered Little RenDong’s eyes.

Then his lips moved and he said something quickly.
