CH 155

Chapter 155 – 1992-2020

In a small room on the second floor of the snack bar, the air was so stagnant it almost felt solid.

Lian Qiao sat by the bed and looked down at the sleepy little RenDong with a complicated expression. He didn’t say a word for a long time.

The Monk looked to the side for a while and couldn’t help saying: “You were at school, what on earth…”

Lian Qiao didn’t even turn his head, obviously not intending to answer. The Monk knew it was useless so he didn’t ask any more questions. He just sighed and said, “Don’t worry, I’ve taken a look at him and his injury isn’t too serious. It’s just that he was too young and couldn’t stand the stimulation, so he passed out from the pain.

It was unknown which one of his words stimulated Lian Qiao. Lian Qiao’s eye muscles twitched, as if being stung, and his face turned pale again.

The Monk didn’t dare to speak anymore, so he coughed and said he was going to go help the boss. Then he went downstairs.

There were only two people, one big and one small, left in the room.

Lian Qiao wanted to touch Little RenDong’s head but, just as he stretched out his hand, he retracted like an electric shock.

He recalled the feeling of kicking RenDong. When faced with such a soft and fragile body, he actually… was able to do it?

To be honest, he doesn’t remember what happened just then. The only thing that stayed in his  memory was the uncontrollable anger and killing intent.

He wanted to kill that woman! He wanted to tear her into pieces and make her die in the greatest pain!

The murderous frenzy occupied his mind, so much so that he even forgot—why did he want to kill her?

When Little RenDong pounced on the woman, he didn’t think to stop at all. Nothing could stop him, he must kill her!

It wasn’t until the little body was kicked out by him and hit hard on the sharp corner of the podium, until Little RenDong curled up on the ground trembling, that he suddenly woke up—

What did I do?

What am I doing…

Lian Qiao no longer remembered how he escaped from school. He hugged Little RenDong and didn’t even know where to go.

RenDong lay softly in his arms, so small like a milk dog that hasn’t grown up. But his face was pale and his eyes were closed tightly, as if he was about to die. Lian Qiao only felt that his heart had been gouged out alive and felt nothing but pain.

Why was this happening?

Why do I…

He wanted to take RenDong to see a doctor, but there was no hospital or clinic on this block. Eventually, with nowhere to go, he ended up at the snack bar.

The Monk was taken aback by what happened and thought there was a ghost in the school. How should he explain to the Monk that it was he who hurt RenDong?

More than ten minutes have passed since he gently placed little RenDong on the bed. RenDong didn’t show signs of waking up, still breathing weakly and showing no reaction at all.

Lian Qiao was almost desperate.

What should he do? What if RenDong couldn’t wake up…

At this moment, Lian Qiao’s heart seemed to be frying in a frying pan, sizzling and burning.

After several seconds that felt like years, he heard heavy and hurried footsteps running up from downstairs.

“It’s bad, it’s bad!” The Monk pushed open the door and said in a rough voice, “The police are here to arrest you! You…do you want to run?”

Lian Qiao was taken aback: “The police?”

The Monk: “Yes! They said you beat someone at school…”

Lian Qiao remembered what he did to the female teacher. His brows could not help but wrinkle.

So what if he hit her? She didn’t die so what’s the point of making a fuss…

Wait. If the police here will come to enforce the law, will the doctors here also save lives and heal the wounded?

Lian Qiao instantly had the urge to jump out the window with RenDong to find a doctor. But just as he stretched out his hand, his eyes fell on RenDong’s pale face and his heart seemed to be slashed by a knife.

No, no, he can’t move him casually… His spine may also be injured and moving it rashly will aggravate the injury!

At this point, he took a deep breath, grabbed the backpack next to the bed and stuffed it to the  Monk: “I will give you all the equipment, you call 120 and send him to the hospital!”

The Monk: “… huh?” The Monk was puzzled, “W-what? I mean the police are here to arrest you! It’s 110, not 120!” {I think 110 is police, 120 is ambulance.}

Lian Qiao raised his eyebrows irritably: “I know! I’ll go with 110, you go with 120! Send him off to the hospital! Is there anything else you don’t understand?!”

The Monk glanced at the little RenDong on the bed, and said with some hesitation: “You really want to go with 110? I don’t know what they will do when they take you away…”

Suddenly there was another sound of chaotic footsteps on the stairs and judging by the sound, it was more than one person. It appeared to be the police.

“I beat someone, so I’m going to go to the detention center for a while.” Lian Qiao glanced at the stairs and quickly explained to the Monk, “But since the police will enforce the law, the hospital will definitely save people! Don’t hesitate, hurry up and call 120 for the ambulance to come get you! I gave you all the equipment, you must protect him for me!”

The Monk held the hiking bag full of equipment, looked at Lian Qiao and then at Little RenDong, still a little dazed.

The door of the room was kicked open suddenly and a group of uniformed policemen rushed in, instantly pushing Lian Qiao down.

“Fuck! Seriously!” The Monk was taken aback and hid aside with his backpack in his arms.

Fortunately, the only target of the group of police was Lian Qiao. They handcuffed Lian Qiao with a click and were about to take him away on the spot. Lian Qiao struggled to turn his head and shouted: “He is the key player! You must protect him! Wait for me to come out!”

“Okay!” The Monk accepted the order under the critical circumstances. Although the Monk didn’t fully understand the situation, he readily agreed.

The policemen rudely dragged Lian Qiao downstairs. The owner of the snack bar on the first floor watched nervously and couldn’t help but ask the policeman, “What did he do? Is it serious?”

The policemen all shook their heads, saying they had no comment.

A police car with flashing lights was parked outside the snack bar. Lian Qiao was pushed into the police car amidst the blaring siren. Fortunately, at the last second before the door closed, he saw the Monk running downstairs and asking the boss where his phone was because he wanted to call 120.

Although the Monk was rough, but time was of the essence and there was no one else to entrust him to.

Lian Qiao felt at ease. Immediately afterwards, the car door closed. Two policemen sandwiched him and drove the police car towards the Public Security Bureau.

They just went to the Public Security Bureau not long ago, when they beat up the beggar group. This time Lian Qiao, as a criminal suspect who maliciously hurt others, received a completely different and rough treatment.

Confessions were recorded, confessions were made, and charges were drawn. After completing a set of simple procedures, the police threw him into the detention room of the detention center.

The detention center is located in the backyard of the police station and the place is very small. Although this was not a prison and only a place to temporarily detain prisoners, the room is also decorated like a prison.

It was a simple square room with a large bed against the wall. There was no bathroom. Three walls, one iron fence. A policeman sat outside the fence with a baton on the table.

Lian Qiao was pushed and shoved inside and, with a sweep of his gaze, he had already figured out the entire environment of the detention center.

With a bang, the iron door of the detention room was locked again. The policeman who sent him turned around to leave but Lian Qiao slammed the iron gate and said, “Hey! Wait!”

The policeman asked angrily, “What?”

“How long do you intend to keep me here for?” Lian Qiao was worried about RenDong and was already plotting his escape route.

Unexpectedly, the policeman said: “Wait for the injury appraisal! You bastard, you actually sneaked into the school in broad daylight to beat people, and even beat up their teacher in front of a bunch of elementary school students! Don’t you know how much psychological harm you will cause the children?! You bastard! You are like a pig and a dog!”

The policeman scolded him indignantly but Lian Qiao only heard one key word: injury appraisal.

It seems that this instance has a very high degree of replication of the real world. Not only do professions such as police and doctors exist, but they basically operate according to the laws of reality.

This put him at ease. If RenDong reaches the hospital, he should be able to receive reasonable treatment. Even if it is haunted, he didn’t need to be afraid because the Monk was there and everything would be solved after reading the scriptures.

Lian Qiao was a little relieved. Walking to the hardboard bed, he picked a clean corner and sat down.

He was the only one in this detention room. He was still worried about whether there would be a prison riot situation or something like that, and he was ready for a fight, but unfortunately the dungeon didn’t give him room to play. So he had to sit in the cell alone and wait idly for the time to pass.

After an unknown amount of time, a policeman came and told him that the injury was appraised and the female teacher was left with a second-degree disability. However, his family has reached a settlement with the victim and the victim is willing to forgive him. So he only needs to stay in the bureau for a day before he can come out.

This “day” is obviously also adjusted by the flow rate of time.

Even so, Lian Qiao was restless. He didn’t know what happened to RenDong and why didn’t the Monk come over to make a report to him?

Unfortunately, no matter how irritable he was, he could only endure it. This instance was legit and he couldn’t mess around. Although this small police station is understaffed, if he really kills people indiscriminately, maybe hundreds of armed policemen will come out to suppress him in the instance. At that time, it will not be something that he can deal with recklessly.

Lian Qiao sat on the hard plank bed and glanced at the guarding policeman through the iron fence. The guarding policeman held a Gu Long novel {famous Chinese wuxia novelist}, read it with gusto and didn’t want to talk to him. Lian Qiao tried to get close to him and failed several times.

Helpless, he could only lie on the bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze.

Even the NPC had novels to read, but he doesn’t have a mobile phone to play with! It’s really…

Hey, wait a minute.

In previous dungeons, would the NPC’s details be so refined?

Of the NPCs he has encountered so far, the one with the fullest character set is the director of the orphanage. As an NPC who was very close to RenDong in reality, the principal has always taken special care of RenDong. Along the way, he and Little Apple have also received a lot of care from the dean.

He always thought it was because of the principal’s special status, so she had a lot of scenes.

Thinking about it now, it seems that not only the principal, but also the other NPCs in this dungeon are particularly…exquisite?

This level of detail  does not refer to the appearance of the characters but to the design of their personalities. Not to mention the owner of the stationery store and snack bar, even the policeman in this detention center has a setting of “loves to read Gu Long’s novels”.

If he hadn’t beaten the female teacher violently on the spur of the moment, he would never have had the opportunity to enter the detention center. So what is the use of this setting? Does “loves to read Gu Long’s novels” have even the slightest effect on advancing the progress of the instance?

… useless settings?

In the instances so far, it seems that there has never been such a large number of detailed…useless settings…

Why?

Lian Qiao vaguely felt that he had caught a certain clue, but the clue disappeared in his mind  and it was difficult for him to say exactly what he thought of.

While thinking hard, time passed unconsciously.

After an unknown amount of time, the policeman came over and knocked on the iron gate with a baton.

“Hey! Wake up, someone is here to see you.”

The clanging sound of metal clashes brought back Lian Qiao’s sanity. He raised his head and saw a shiny bald head at the gate of the detention center.

The Monk? !

Lian Qiao jumped up from the bed, full of surprises: “You finally—”

Before he finished speaking, his pupils tightened suddenly.

There was no RenDong.

There is no RenDong beside the Monk.

What happened to RenDong? Where did he go? How is he?!

Lian Qiao was flustered and looked into the Monk’s compassionate eyes in disbelief.

“Amitabha.” The Monk clasped his hands together and sighed, “Benefactor, this poor monk is here to bring you bad news.”
