Chapter 67

Chapter 67: A Strange Sound (2)

Savoring the taste of the huge wolf’s soul, Blake knew that the soul must be worth more than just 5 or 6 souls.

The taste of the delicious soul lingered on the back of his mouth as a slight shiver ran through all over his body.

The taste was considerably more intense than last time and it also lingered longer in his mouth, giving Blake a slightly more satisfying feeling compared to when he ate the other strong demon’s souls.

While the other felt like just eating a piece of chips, this one felt like Blake had eaten a handful of chips.

It still felt like it wasn’t enough, but it felt much better to him than just eating one piece.

As this time, the soul gave a very small sense of satisfaction to him. And Blake never felt it before when he ate the other souls.

So out of curiosity, Blake checked the number of souls that he currently has.

‘Last time I checked, I had 43. That means that this huge wolf soul gave 8 souls from one soul...’

‘Whew... That’s the most that I have gotten so far. No wonder the taste was the most remarkable taste of them all.’ Blake thought to himself as he started opening his eyes slowly.

The lingering taste of the tasty huge wolf’s soul had started dissipating from his system, and although he wanted it to last longer, Blake could do nothing but click his tongue in disappointment as there was no way he could get another one just because he wanted it.

If he want to taste another one, Blake needed to find another creature as strong as the huge wolf and hoped that it was strong enough to give 8 souls.

It wouldn’t be too hard to find stronger demons since they have their own territory in the forest and Blake would only need to stumble upon them in their territory.

And it wasn’t too hard to distinguish which one of the beasts had a tasty soul just from their appearance.

And after meeting them and fighting them for quite some time, Blake noticed that the demonic beasts’ bodies were more affected by their level compared to him.

Blake had only received changes to his body when he reached level 5 and when he made a covenant with Robus. And so far, he hadn’t gotten any noticeable changes to his body yet even though he had reached level 10.

On the other hand, when observing the beasts in the forest, Blake noticed that their physique changes a lot depending on their level or how many souls they had consumed so far.

Just like the birds that were only as big as a dog and have tasteless souls, became bigger and bigger as their souls became tastier. And the peak of the birds that Blake had fought before was the Robus-sized crow that gave Blake 6 souls from just one soul orb.

It wouldn’t be too hard to find a strong demon that Blake would consider to have a tasty soul, but finding one that was strong enough to actually give 8 souls worth of soul from just one soul would logically be harder than just finding any tasty soul.

But as always, Blake would only keep on traveling the forest and eating every soul that he could get as his goal was to reach level 15 as soon as possible, not to be a gourmand.

But still, deep down, he hoped that would be able to taste as many tasty souls as possible.

Blake then suddenly thought of something, ‘Come to think of it, I had never seen any changes to Robus ever since we’ve traveled together.’

‘I’ve leveled up more than 5 times while Robus didn’t seem to have any changes to his body.’

‘Does it mean that Robus hasn’t leveled up at all even after all the souls that we’ve eaten? Or did he already level up several times but there are no visible changes to his body because his body had already reached the maximum growth for his type of demonic beast?’

Staring at the giant gorilla that had already deactivated the dark earth armor, Blake could see the familiar gorilla that was several times bigger than himself.

With darkish brown fur covering his whole body, and a fist even bigger than Blake’s head, Robus still looked the same as when he first made the covenant with Blake.

‘Well, with us sharing the souls we get, we would sooner or later reach the same level, level 15, and evolve. There’s no need to think much about it.’ Blake shook his head left and right.

With the huge wolf’s soul being completely devoured into his stomach, Blake then proceeded to evenly split the 4 remaining souls with robus, with the two of them getting two each.

And not surprisingly, the 4 wolves gave 4 souls each, the same as what the monkeys gave him.

‘Even though the monkeys might be more dangerous for me considering their agility and their bloodline power, the wolves with their ability to shock and paralyze creatures were also not to be underestimated...’ Blake thought to himself as he tried to compare the difficulty of fighting the two creatures that gave him 4 worth of souls in one soul orb.

“Let’s rest first before continuing to the deeper sides of the forest,” Blake said to Robus, who had also just finished eating the two wolf’s souls.

Blake still got a lot of juice left with his high spirit stat, but after casting a second realm darkness spell a few minutes ago, Blake would need some time to recover enough nether in his body to be able to cast another one.

The possibility of meeting another strong demonic beast that would require him to use a second realm darkness spell was minuscule considering that they had just defeated the territory owner, which was the huge wolf, but the chance was still there if they went into another strong beast territory.

And Blake didn’t want to risk his and Robus’ lives, so he decided to sit somewhere comfortable and meditate to recover his nether faster.

Blake had planned to fill up his nether to full capacity, but just when he recovered enough to cast another second realm darkness spell without falling to his knees, he suddenly jerked his eyes wide open.

And it seems that Blake wasn’t the only one who noticed something as Robus had also turned his head and looked at Blake’s eyes.

The two then nodded their heads as Blake quickly jumped upward and got on Robus’s back.

“We’re checking that out. But remember to follow my instructions and don’t go straight into the source of the sound,” Blake said with a serious face right next to Robus’ ear to make sure he heard it loud and clear.

Blake was warier this time than the other times, as he increased his awareness of his surroundings and his focus on his sense of sight and hearing.

While Robus was just like usual and readied himself for another fight.

The two of them heard something with their ears.

And while Robus only heard some sounds and noises that he found unusual, what Blake heard was actually something else.

What Blake heard were voices.
