Ch. 178: The Legion and the Wizard
Before Igni knew what was happening, Igni found himself facing off with Estea in the backyard. Estea’s house was on the outskirts of the Kingdom’s Capital, and the yard itself was incredibly spacious.
With this much space, I can move freely without any issues.
Igni: “.......are you okay with spectators?”
Estea: “YーYes, that……should be fine….”
Igni shifted his gaze to the side, and saw four girls peeping their heads to watch - the second oldest, Rita, and the twins were holding their youngest sister.
Igni: “You have a lot of siblings.”
Estea: “YーYeah, mom is working hard….to raise us all.”
Igni: “That’s amazing. But… what about your father?”
Igni sensed that the question may not be appropriate and asked cautiously, but Estea only smiled sadly.
Estea: “My dad…..was an Adventurer, but died.”
Igni: “........I’m sorry.”
That was all he could say.
An Adventurer’s death is quite common.
In fact, compared to mercenaries and Wizards, their death rate was much higher.
Being the jack of all trades, the Adventurers would be sent out to do various tasks.
Because of that, they are also given some impossible tasks.
Estea: “No, it’s okay. I’ll be able to find work in about 2 years.”
Igni: “That’s very mature.”
Estea: “NーNo, not at….all…”
Estea blushed and turned her face away.
Igni: (So cute…..)
Igni: “Okay, shall we begin?”
Estea: “Yes!”
Igni and Estea both walk further away to create more distance.
Then, their eyes locked onto each other.
Igni: “What about the rules?”
Estea: “What about whoever gets touched first loses?”
Igni: “Sure, let’s go with that.”
With Igni’s acknowledgement, both made brief preparations.
Estea: “Rita, give the signal.”
With Estea’s request, Rita energetically raised her hand and came over with a “SーSure!”
Rita: “Begin!”
Igni and Estea both kicked the ground at the same time.
Igni: “[Equip Flame] {Ignition}”
Igni began with an incantation.
He created five {Fireballs} around him.
Estea: “[Water] {Whip}”
Though Igni kicked the ground to dash towards Estea, Estea kicked away from Igni and jumped backwards. As she maintained the distance with Igni, she lashed out with a whip made of water.
Igni: “[Launch] {Fire}”
But Igni observed the attack well before countering.
He made sure the {Fireball} punched through the whip before crouching and sliding in.
Estea: “Torrential Wind, [Ventos] {Tempest}”
*GOH!! *sfx wind*
A sudden gale blasted around Igni. But Igni had already positioned himself above Estea.
Igni can see the manipulation of Magic Power, so facing him, trying to sneak a Spell at him would be impossible.
That’s because he would be able to decipher exactly what Spell is coming and dodge it accordingly.
Igni: “[Equip Flame] {Snipe}”
The {Fireball} behind Igni begins to rapidly spin.
He directed the {Fireball} directly below where Estea stood.
Igni: “[Launch] {Fire}!”
Igni rapidly fires several {Fireballs}!
Estea: “Awake, Earth. [Tetsura] {Wake}”
But with Estea’s incantation, a shield appeared from the ground and blocked all of Igni’s {Fireballs}!
Estea: “Twist, Earth. [Tetsura] {Torquent}!”
And Estea yelled her next incantation.
The ground rose up, and several sharp spears flew towards Igni.
Igni: “{Return Fire}!”
But Igni met the spears with his own {Fireballs} and wiped them out.
Igni: “.........you’re quite amazing.”
Estea: “SーSo strong…….”
They both paused to breathe in and out.
They both had a taste of each other’s skills.
Igni: “Can you tell me why you jumped backwards as soon as we started?”
Estea: “IーI heard…from Miss Elina. WhーWhen she fought with Mr. Igni……before she knew what happened, she had a sword to her restrained.”
That was when Igni first had a match with Elina.
With Ms. Mira’s guidance, Igni had no choice but to face off with Elina.
Estea: “BーBesides. After… watching other fights, Mr. Igni has amazing reflexes. And, yーyou….mーmove really fast! So I wanted to make sure to keep you in my sight and jumped…backwards.”
Igni: “..........amazing. Did someone teach you to fight like that?”
It was a strategy derived from studying Igni’s fighting style extensively.
Igni guessed that someone must have Estea these things.
Estea: “NーNo. I…..figured it out myself.”
Igni: “I see. Then you’re quite the genius, Estea.”
Igni was sincere with his compliment.
It was a talent he did not have in the beginning.
It was something he had to learn and acquire later in his life.
Igni: “And judging from the fight, you were able to switch between different Types quickly. You have very good judgment.”
Estea: “IーI practiced a lot!”
Estea puffed her chest out with pride.
What she just mentioned was not a skill most people could do.
Normally, people would focus on their most compatible Type.
Alicia and Yoori are good examples of those who trained their most adept Magic Type and used other Types just as support. That is the standard fighting theory.
But Estea was different.
From birth, she had a compatibility greater than A with all Types, and with that talent, she trained each Type to a first class skill.
The [Omni] Estea.
She was similar to the Legendary Hero who was also omni-compatible with all Magic.
Her Wizard Title was derived from the Hero’s legends.
Igni: “I see now. Then, shall we continue?”
Igni understood Estea’s strength very well.
He crouched low to the ground and initiated a Spell.
<Sizzle> (sfx) and Igni’s feet lifted off the ground slightly.
By creating several thousand to tens of thousands of {Fireballs} below his feet, the Spell enables him to move around in all direction - [Flame Engine] {Accel Boot}
Igni: “[Equip Flame] {Ignition}”
And with that Spell…..
<DON!!> *sfx.
He dashed forward with incredible speed!!
Igni: “[Explosion] {Fire}!”
And he ignites a {Fireball} in midair!
Flames and wind exploded around Estea and filled her view!!
Estea: “........?! Mr. Igni?!?!”
Igni: “Right here.”
And Igni gently placed a hand on Estea’s shoulder.
The match was decided.
Rita: “IーIncredible!!”
As soon as the match was over, Igni and Estea both felt the onset of fatigue as Rita yelled with excitement.
Rita: “HーHow did you do that just now?! Was that {Fireball} too?!?!”
Igni: “Yeah, that’s right. I mean, I can only use {Fireball}.”
Rita: “What?! RーReally?! But you were able to fight with the [Extremes]?!”
Igni: “Well, I am a [Ultimate Spell Specialized・Spell One].”
Rita: “ SO COOOOOOOOOL!!!”
And Rita’s scream echoed throughout the backyard.
