Chapter 85 Questions Part 2

Yawning as he opened the front door as discreetly as he could, as soon as Xavier entered his home, someone pounced on him and reflexively he went to strike, but quickly realised who it was.

"Mother...?" he uttered before tumbling backwards, completely letting his guard down, not wanting to accidentally hurt her.

"Where've you been all night? You don't even answer your phone anymore and look at yourself. Did you get into another fight?" she yelled.

Sighing, he couldn't blame her for being worried as he began to calm her down and fend off her continuous questions.

'Have I not answered enough questions today?!' Xavier groaned internally as he remained patient with his mother, who was understandably concerned and curious.

And, after a short while, she finally started to back off after she received the answers she was looking for.

But of course, Xavier couldn't let her know the truth and although he wanted to be transparent with his mother, it was best if he kept her in the dark about what he was delving into.

If she knew about what he sought to do, she would do all she could to stop him and he couldn't allow that to happen, not when everything was starting to come together.

-

"So you're telling me that you fought in a fighting tournament and won, and that's what you've been training for? And you got rewarded with money for fighting?" his mother summarised questioningly after hearing Xavier's explanation.

Nodding his head, she didn't seem completely convinced, but since he had always been good at fighting, and she remembered him previously winning regional kickboxing tournaments, she gave in.

"Just start being more careful and stop coming home so late," she pleaded.

She was unable to sleep until she was sure her son was safe and was worried that he was doing more than he could handle for her sake, so her reaction was natural.

And giving her the same reassuring and warm smile that he always did to wipe away all her worries, he made sure she was fine before getting some sleep.

He was tired and knew that he was in for a long day, so every second of rest counted as he urged her to also get some sleep, seeing the dark bags under her eyes that were starting to form from lack of sleep.

And seeing how much of a toll his elusive behaviour was having on his mother, he vowed to make sure that it paid off and to try to reduce any stress or worries that she had.

-

Waking up, showering, eating and leaving straight away, Xavier gave his mother some more money to spend on herself and told her to just relax.

And only after he reassured her he would take it easy did she agree to do so.

But it was obviously a lie and taking it easy was the last thing Xavier wanted to do as he rushed over to the dojo, wanting to be the one to introduce the new fighters to the others.

-

"That boy, he just doesn't sit still. I just hope he isn't getting into trouble or doing anything stupid for money," his mother said to herself as she watched her son run off.

She didn't know what to think or how to feel anymore.

On one hand, he seemed to be doing well, but on the other hand, he kept coming home tired and injured and she didn't know just how much she believed what he told her.

But decided to trust in her son and look on the bright side as he hoped for the best and planned for the rest of her day.

Deciding that she couldn't just sit around and that she needed something to do, she decided to look for a job.

One that wouldn't be as burdensome on her health as running a stall.

Extra income wouldn't hurt, and it would be a good way to pass by the time and get outdoors.

And while she was preparing herself to start her job search, Xavier was running over to the dojo as fast as he could.

-

He had told the fighters to meet at the dojo at midday and didn't bother warning the others about their arrival, since he planned on getting there before them and explaining what had happened last night to them.

However, he woke up slightly late and it was already 1 PM, so he was just hoping that they got along and there weren't any misunderstandings as he rushed inside the dojo.

To his surprise, he found them all training hard together and many of them sparring against each other, and those that weren't sparring weren't slacking off, standing in puddles of their own sweat.

Letting out a sigh of relief, it seemed as though Achara, Connor, and Sam believed what the other fighters had to say.

If they had started to fight, Xavier wasn't worried about the three of them, but what they would have done to the new recruits.

And it would've been understandable if they had fought since their sudden appearance could've been seen as a threat.

But thankfully they hadn't as, not only would the new recruits suffer a beating, but the whole exchange would be blown out of proportion since it was the middle of the day.

-

All the new recruits greeted Xavier respectfully as he entered the dojo, and their eyes were filled with admiration and awe as they did so, recollecting last night's events.

And seeing that they all knew his face and Xavier didn't bother hiding it from them, it was apparent to Connor, Achara, and Sam that he had decided to trust them.

However, they had their doubts.

But despite not being completely trusting of the new recruits, since they seemed to hold Xavier in high regard from how they behaved and spoke of him, it was clear that they were loyal to him to an extent.

And Xavier had decided to trust them, so they believed in his judgement.

It also wasn't like they could say anything, as just like them, they had grown to trust and swear loyalty to Xavier and the Outlaw Gang very quickly, but they were still remaining vigilant.

They couldn't afford to have any half-hearted members or, even worse, those with bad intentions or other opposing affiliations.

But so far that didn't seem to be the case and Achara, Sam and Connor couldn't deny that they were working hard and were all skilled in their own right.

However, not all was good, and one issue was starting to become apparent...
