CH 76

Ruan An’an followed him in confusion, trotting two steps behind. She was even more bewildered when they got to the place he mentioned, “…what are we doing here?”

“I had a look at the list.  I am ranked in the latter few groups, so it’s still early for me to go,” Gu Jue glanced at her with an odd expression before he cleared his throat, “And you were panting heavily… so rest for a while before you leave.”

Ruan An’an was stunned for a moment, “Ah? Then why did we come here? It’s the same everywhere we go…”

Gu Jue said, “There’s no sunlight here.”

“…” Not being exposed to the blazing sunlight is a reason that girls won’t ever refuse.

“Besides……”

Ruan An’an was really tired. She was ready to squat down as she heard him say the word ‘besides’.

She looked up at him. The light amidst the shadow was dim, and the color of Gu Jue’s eyes was a shade darker than its usual hue and she couldn’t really make out the details of his silhouette.

“There were too many people just now,” he lowered his voice, slightly muting his tone, “…and I don’t want you to be heard by others.”

Gu Jue couldn’t really describe that kind of voice.

Even after being human for so many years, he hadn’t really paid much attention to the sounds of gasps all that much.

At most, when playing basketball, a group of tired boys around him would pant and that irked him; but as for girls… he had no recollection of noticing them.

This was the first time.

But Gu Jue’s words were vague and Ruan An’an didn’t understand. She was stunned for a moment, “What…do you not want others to listen to?”

What’s the context? Did someone say anything? You should really clarify your words.

After Ruan An’an asked, she heard Gu Jue laugh slightly.

The lighting was dim as they were in a place that was similar to a vent. Right below the rostrum, words spoken here were faintly echoed.

This chuckle of his was also, as if guided by the sound of the echoes, resonating in her ears.

“Nothing,” he said.

It seems that he does not intend to explain.

Gu Jue was really apt in looking for a good spot. This place separated the exterior from the interior— a private space hidden beyond the public eye.

With such a suitable space for a heart-to-heart talk, Ruan An’an suddenly wanted to ask him a few questions that she hadn’t asked before.

“Student Gu, let me ask you something.”

“Hmm?”

Ruan An’an had just finished running, so her heart was still beating quite rapidly. She was breathing too hard just now and that made her chest hurt a little.

This was not her first experience. She looked like this after the high school test of 800 meters—a typical aftereffect of a long-distance run, even though a few hundred meters may be as easy as a walk in the park for people like Gu Jue.

When she thought of the sentence that she wanted to ask… her symptoms seemed to worsen.

“You…” Ruan An’an grabbed the tip of her finger, “Have you ever been in a relationship?”

Gu Jue, who was lazily leaning against the wall, replied with barely even a pause, “No.”

He seldom got close to girls, although many have been crushing on him since he went to school, regardless of an open confession or a silent longing for his affection. Not only did Gu Jue never fall in love, he didn’t even have an ambiguous attraction to anyone.

Ruan An’an released her finger. Although she got the answer she wanted the most, she still asked incredulously, “Really?”

“…”
