Chapter 29

The man paused for a moment, seemingly astonished by Mu Qianyue’s sudden change in attitude. But a moment later, he snapped out of his reverie and praised as he nodded, “Mm. Teachable indeed.”

Mu Qianyue had an urge to cry. What else could she do but to relent? Unless she was meant to tackle him head-on?

Problem is, she was no match for him! Not to mention all those creepy beings surrounding them.

“This is my reward for you.”

With a flick of his sleeve, an item fell into Mu Qianyue’s hands with astounding precision. Lowering her head, she saw that it was a small interspatial ring, and within it contained a large pile of gold coins. It seemed that there were tens of millions of those gold coins inside. Also, there was a pile of precious medicinal herbs of all kinds, plus various pills.

Oh my, what a sumptuous reward!

Mu Qianyue clucked her tongue secretly. This Ghost King was truly too generous! The first time they met, he had gifted her the Ring of Life, and the second time, such a lavish gift was so easily bestowed upon her.

Three words could adequately summarize him: a rich goon!

So she didn’t stand on ceremony with him and simply stored this interspatial ring into the Heaven Connecting Tower. Since he gave it to her, she might as well take it.

However, she wondered what he was up to by giving her all this? Could it be for the Heaven Connecting Tower? Was he thinking of waiting for her to beef up her capabilities so that she could completely open the Heaven Connecting Tower, and then he could seize it from her?

“It’s not good for you to contemplate things too deeply at your young age. This ring was given to me by Lin Xu. I didn’t deign to take it from him actually, but he had tearfully begged me to accept this. Being the benevolent man I am, I could only accept it.” The Ghost King rapped his finger against Mu Qianyue’s head gently, a sly grin flickering across his deep and stern eyes.

Ah, so it was him. How could she forget Lin Xu? That was the man she encountered in the medicinal shop previously, and she recalled her disgust at his arrogance.

To think that a haughty man like Lin Xu would fear the Ghost King? But then again, with such a nest of skeletons, who wouldn’t be afraid of him?

The Ghost King stuck out a hand and gently curled Mu Qianyue’s loose hair strands behind her ear, and said in a seductive voice, “Young lass, I hope you can grow up quickly…”

His words made Mu Qianyue freeze. She abruptly recalled the scene of her seeing him when she first woke up. It was him who undid the Heaven Connecting Tower’s seal for her. He must have known her!

Mu Qianyue’s lips curled in a faint smile, eyes sparkling. “Okay.”

Regardless of who he was, it would be okay as long as he didn’t harm her. It was best to appease him for now.

After that, the Ghost King actually asked her to stay for dinner. By the time they had dinner, the moon was hovering high up in the skies. Only then did the Ghost King arrange for his men to take her back.

An elderly man in a grey robe walked into the hall and said, “Miss, please follow me.”

Mu Qianyue followed the elderly person. Under the moonlight, his figure cast a long shadow on the ground.

“Miss, don’t worry. I’m a living person.” The grey-robed elderly man seemed to read what was on Mu Qianyue’s mind, so he clarified.

A hint of astonishment flashed across her eyes. This was the first living person she saw in the Netherworld Palace, apart from the Ghost King himself.

“Miss, thank you for keeping my master company for so long. It has been a long time since I have seen him so happy.” The elderly man’s voice sounded heartened and grateful.

“I didn’t really do much,” Mu Qianyue politely said with a smile. She then narrowed her eyes and after some thought, added, “Actually he’s not as cruel, merciless and vicious as rumor has it. He’s merely too lonely all by himself.”

The elderly man was so grateful to hear her words that tears nearly slipped down his face. “Miss, you truly are my master’s soulmate. If you have the time, do come over often and visit.”

Those words made Mu Qianyue’s mouth twitch. She was just saying. No way would she want to be the Ghost King’s soul mate and neither did she want to frequently come to visit the Netherworld Palace…

With all those creepy ghosts roaming around the place, the mere thought of it gave her the shivers.

After she left the Netherworld Palace, Mu Qianyue walked in the mountain forest all by herself. “Little Tiantian, you’re really a great help huh! Seeing your master being bullied, you didn’t even dare to let out a fart!” Recalling the certain someone who hid in the Heaven Connecting Tower quietly earlier on, Mu Qianyue gnashed her teeth in anger.

“With my gorgeous looks, who knows if he might fall for me if I had appeared then. What should I do if that happens? I’m still too weak now and am no match for him. Moreover, you didn’t suffer a loss either,” Tianshuo said with a smile.

Mu Qianyue nearly vomited blood. Why were all of them so narcissistic?

“Don’t worry, I’ll help you seek revenge! When I become more powerful, I’ll definitely make him suffer. I’ll make him kneel down and submit to you!” Tianshuo declared, brimming with confidence.

From then onwards, defeating the Ghost King became Tianshuo’s sole goal and motivation.

When she returned to Brightmoon Courtyard, Mu Qianyue started to shut herself in and cultivate. She activated all the accumulated medicinal effects and power, then refined and absorbed it all, before transforming it into True Essence Energy and directing it into her dantian. From that, she skipped two levels from a fifth-stage True Cultivator to a seventh-stage True Cultivator!

“It’s time to try summoning the Spirit of Fire.” Mu Qianyue closed her eyes and murmured to herself. If she wished to become a Pill Apothecary, it was unavoidable that she had to summon her Spirit of Fire.

One who succeeded in doing so, would enjoy a meteoric rise in their status and be revered by the masses, enjoying more wealth and glory than one could imagine.

Those who failed naturally could only struggle and drown themselves in sorrow.

Taking out the Fire Spirit Fruit given to her by her master, Mu Qianyue took in a deep breath, then sat down cross-legged and closed her eyes. She focused all her concentration and started searching in her sea of consciousness, over and over again in a patient manner. Finally, she saw specks of frail red light!

These red light specks were the Spirit of Fire!

However, these Spirit of Fires were in a dispersed state and had yet to take shape. She would have to condense them together, and only after she succeeded in doing so, would she truly possess the Spirit of Fire.

Using her mental power, Mu Qianyue guided those flames of fire and slowly gathered them together, like stretches of red sunset glow.

“This is the most crucial step.” After consuming the Fire Spirit Fruit, a sweet liquid glided down her throat and flowed towards her limbs and bones. At the same time, those weak flames in her sea of consciousness suddenly started churning. Slowly, the impurities in those flames were dispelled, and the flames became visibly purer and hotter.

The coming together of the flames caused the sea of consciousness’s temperature to gradually increase. It felt like her head was being roasted on a rack of fire!

If someone else was present, he would be able to see that Mu Qianyue’s entire head was red as she sat cross-legged with her eyes closed.

“I must persist for a bit longer,” Mu Qianyue said to herself in her heart. At the same time, she sped up the condensation of the flames.

Slow and steady. Focus, Mu Qianyue.

As the flames gradually took shape, the temperature continued rising. Mu Qianyue could even smell meat burning. Um. Surely she hadn’t turned into a roast pig’s head, had she?
