Chapter 33

“Haha… Then Grandpa Ding will be waiting for that day.” Ding Hao let out a hearty laugh.

On this day, the sun was shining down brightly. It was a scorching, heavy heat that weighed down on the nation.

Feet pounding in a rhythmic manner, Mu Qianyue ran at the training grounds for the entire morning while carrying sandbags that weighed 25 kilograms. Her sweat drenched her clothes and her hair was also wet. She looked as if she had been fished up from a lake of water.

“Hu hu… Hang on a little longer, a little longer…” Clenching her teeth tightly and running laps after laps, Mu Qianyue felt that her legs were extremely heavy and felt like they had been filled with lead. It was as if she was going to drop at any moment.

A “ka” sound suddenly rang out and a cooling aura entered from the top of her head, going down to her limbs and bones. Her entire body relaxed and her footsteps instantly became light again.

She released her body’s potential once again, reaching a brand new point!

Removing the sandbags from her back, Mu Qianyue sat down under a tree. Mu Rufeng, who was next to her, handed her some water. She took it gratefully and guzzled it down.

“Yue’er, there’s no need for you to go through so much hardship. Elder Brother will protect you.” Mu Rufeng gently wiped off the sweat from Mu Qianyue’s forehead with a towel, his heart aching for her.

“Brother, you can protect me for now, but you can’t protect me forever. If someone really wants to kill me, are you going to be by my side every minute and second every day? I don’t want to be a little bird under your wings. I want to be a majestic eagle, protecting you, grandfather, and the entire Defender Marquis Manor!” Mu Qianyue said seriously.

Mu Rufeng was stunned. That was true. It was impossible for him to constantly stay by Yue’er’s side to protect her. If something were to go amiss…

It was also good if Yue’er had the ability to protect herself.

The shadow guards, who were also resting on the training grounds, all looked toward Mu Qianyue in astonishment. They didn’t expect the Eldest Young Miss to have such lofty sentiments!

Previously, they thought that Eldest Young Miss wouldn’t be able to persist for long and would just give up. But they had thought wrong. Just like them, Eldest Young Miss received training with them every day and was even more hardworking than they were. There were some training methods which were truly unbearable, but Eldest Young Miss didn’t even let out a sound about it. It was hard to imagine how such a weak body had persisted.

The wedding day was rapidly approaching and everyone in the Defender Marquis Manor was busy and there was a jubilant atmosphere around.

In the Maple Garden.

Mu Qianyue lay on a reclining chair that was woven from bamboo, wearing a leisurely expression with her legs crossed. She was eating grapes that Qian Huang had peeled. It’d be good if she could live so leisurely every day in the future.

Beside her, Qian Huang peeled the grapes gloomily while secretly vomiting blood in his heart. He was a hot-blooded shadow guard, but somehow ended up becoming a grape-peeling servant.

“What, are you feeling upset? If you agree to a bet, then you must be willing to accept your loss!” Mu Qianyue ate the grapes happily.

Qian Huang looked even more gloomy. An hour ago, the young miss had looked for him to challenge him, saying that she wanted to have a spar. He said in disdain that he’d give way to her, not using one of his hands. He ended up being defeated in less than three moves. He was a seventh-stage Spirit Cultivator!

“Young Miss, you cheated!”

“Hmph, all’s fair in war! I only care about the result and not the process.” Mu Qianyue let out a cold snort as she declared. “If the one fighting with you earlier is your enemy, you’d have lost your life. I gave you another lesson and didn’t ask you for tuition fee.”

Qian Huang wore a bitter expression but the depth of his eyes gradually became serious. He thought about Mu Qianyue’s words seriously.

Mu Rufeng shook his head, smiling. However, the depths of his eyes were brimming with adoration.

“Yue’er, have you really thought things through? Are you planning to marry Nalan Jing?”

“Brother, don’t worry. Nalan Jing is so rich and simple, I won’t let myself lose out. Moreover, there are always a few detestable flies hovering around and staring,” Mu Qianyue said indifferently, “Brother, the Defender Marquis Manor is only one street away from the Prince Jing Manor. Who would dare to bully me?”

At this moment, a black shadow entered the Maple Garden with a flash, saying respectfully, “Master, Eldest Young Miss.”

“How’s the scouting?” Mu Rufeng asked the person who came.

“The Crown Prince Manor is very unsettled. Nalan Yu is thinking of changing Mu Yurou to the Eldest Young Miss on the day of the wedding,” Qian Mo said angrily, his handsome and stalwart face had a hint of fury on it.

“Heh…” Mu Qianyue who was drinking tea, couldn’t help but have her lips curl up into a smirk. There was a faint cold gleam in her pitch-black eyes. “He is really into his wishful thinking.”

Qian Huang’s countenance straightened and he looked toward his master. He believed that his master wouldn’t sit by idly and remain indifferent to this.

As expected, Mu Rufeng’s expression remained calm from the beginning to the end, but his long and narrow eyes had a hint of a cold gleam flashed by quickly.

“The likes of him dares to covet Yue’er? He’s just a piece of trash. Qian Huang, have someone keep watch on the Crown Prince Manor. Report back if there are any movements. Separately, send someone to spread the news that Nalan Yu has been crippled. Remember that everything has to be done flawlessly. Do not let anyone find out that the Defender Marquis Manor is the one who disseminated the news.”

“Understood.” Qian Huang nodded. Then, with a flash, he disappeared from the courtyard.

“Nalan Yu is crippled?” Hearing that, a hint of surprise flashed in Mu Qianyue’s black eyes.

Mu Rufeng nodded.

“Brother, were you the one who did it?” The young lady turned and looked at him, a hint of glow smouldering in her eyes.

Mu Rufeng shook his head. “The men I sent were one step too late. The Ghost King was the one who crippled Nalan Yu.”

Ghost King?

Mu Qianyue frowned. That mysterious and terrifying guy had a feud with Nalan Yu?

“Are there any movements on Mu Yurou’s side?” Mu Rufeng paused before continuing to ask Qian Mo.

Qian Mo shook his head. “No.”

“Continue to keep watch.” Mu Rufeng’s countenance was icy-cold. Anyone who dared have questionable thoughts on Yue’er must die!

Mu Qianyue was still sleeping soundly in bed when she was woken up by a maid. “Young Miss, Young Miss, you should wake up. Today is the day of your wedding…”

Opening her eyes drowsily, Mu Qianyue looked out of the window. It was still dim outside. The sky hadn’t lit up yet. Mu Qianyue lay back down. “It’s still early. Don’t disturb me!”

Dongmei wore a helpless expression and could only continue to call her, “Young Miss, you should wake up now, you cannot continue to sleep anymore. It’d be bad if you were to pass the auspicious time…” She only managed to pull Mu Qianyue out from her bed after tugging at her forcefully.

Mu Qianyue closed her eyes and let Dongmei and a few other maids do what they had to do with her. After god knew how long, the chaperon’s voice rang out from outside, “Is the bride ready?”

At that moment, Mu Qianyue was dozing off, but she was promptly helped up into the sedan by the chaperon and Dongmei. The journey was shaky and bumpy, and she had no idea where she was.

It was eerily quiet. There weren’t any hint of sounds of firecrackers and noises around.

“Bang!” A stifled sound rang out and the sedan landed heavily on the ground.

The closed eyes of the young lady in the sedan trembled a little and a hint of coldness flashed past in her eyes, her lips curled into a sneer. They couldn’t hold back anymore?

Removing the veil from her head, Mu Qianyue walked out. The scene in front of her wasn’t the Phoenix Shadow City, but was a dense forest.

A lady who was also dressed in a red wedding dress stood in front of her. Her face that had exquisite makeup was filled with resentment and hatred. Her vicious gaze didn’t blink as she stared at Mu Qianyue, who was walking out from the sedan.

“I didn’t expect you to have some means up your sleeves. Not only have you deceived Nalan Yu, you’ve also dodged the guards from the Prince Jing Manor.” Taking a look at the eight black-clothed men in the surroundings, Mu Qianyue crossed her arms in front of her, her lips curled up into a cold smile.
