Volume 1 - CH 24

Chapter 24 [A day in the reclamation village]

The reclamation village’s morning begins early.

I got out of bed along with the sunrise and made breakfast together with Tet.

“Everyone, breakfast is ready!”

The loud voice went around every household, the men who had bad sleeping habits wearing just a single pair of pants slowly got up.

“All right. Well then, line up to get your meal. Also, put your laundry in that basket.”

I issued the instructions, but if someone did the same thing for three days, then they’ll get used to it.

Everyone is an adventurer that used to scramble for requests at the guild in the morning. The morning is extremely tiring.

In regards to that—-

“G-Good morning……”

“Yes, good morning. Here, your bread, soup and side dishes.”

Gash-san, whose role was to manage the reclamation village, was weak in the morning, maybe because he was the seventh son of a noble.

Well, having some warm soup in his stomach, he becomes something useful.

Then, after the meal was over, we tidied up.

“Tet, grab the laundry over there. I’ll carry the tableware over here.”

“Yes~nanodesu!”

Tet lifted up the basket filled with a mountain of clothes from tens of people, and I used my dark magic <<Psychokinesis>> that’s part of my [Origin Magic] to collect the tableware and transport them while they were floating.

“Psychokinesis sure is convenient. Tet, that’s dangerous.”

“WAH, thank you~nanodesu!”

In the middle of moving to the riverside in order to wash the laundry, Tet almost stumbled on the tree roots at her feet. 1 I warned her while supporting the mountain of laundry that almost came apart with my invisible magic hand, and went ahead as if nothing happened.

“Well then, let’s get washing. —-<<Psychokinesis>>!”

I manipulated the clean water from the river with magic and created a water ball.

I threw the naturally gentle detergent that I created with creation magic inside and cleaned the laundry one after another.

I threw away the dirtied water and rinsed and washed them in new clean water.

“Tet, could you air these for me?

“Yes~nanodesu!”

I entrusted Tet to air out the washed laundry.

Nearby the riverside, I affixed a strong rope and hung several tens of laundry there.

“Today’s weather looks good, so it’ll probably be dried in the afternoon.”

“Nanodesu!” 2

Several tens of tableware were a bit bulky, but because they were all made out of wood, they probably won’t break even if treated crudely.

However, it’ll get moldy with moisture, so it’s necessary for it to get dried in the sunshine.

“Well then, the tableware and cookware is finished. I’ll help out Tet with the laundry.”

“Please do~nanodesu!”

For someone with a 12-year-old’s height, the rope to dry the laundry was a bit high, so I would need to tiptoe.

Therefore, I used my <<Psychokinesis>> magic to make the laundry flutter about in the air one after another and hung it on the rope.

The reclamation group of people who saw the sight were quite dumbfounded.

“–Wasting it. She’s wasting her mana.”

The mages were saying that with teary eyes for some reason, but I had excess mana. If I don’t use it here, there aren’t any other ways to use it.

Tet and I returned to the village after finishing the laundry. I gathered the fine dust and trash in every house by blowing them with wind magic, burned them at the edge of the village with magic, and scattered the ashes on the lands where the fields are supposed to be.

Then, after finishing cleaning, laundry, and other chores, it was practically noon.

“Well then, Tet. Shall we go?”

“Yes~nanodesu!”

“Chise-san, Tet-san, are you going out again?”

The afternoon was our free time.

In the first few days, as a result of getting to the bottom of the large quantities of reclamation projects, I went over the documents together with the Gash-san in charge every day, but after sorting the documents and deciding on the plans, I occasionally gave advice.

Although I truly had the mentality from my last life, I was thankful to Gash-san’s flexibility to accept the things coming from a 12-year-old kid.

“Yes, I’m going together with Tet to investigate the nearby herbs.”

“Well, you look like you’re looking forward to it!”

“We’ll be going now~nodesu!”

While Tet waved her hand, we left the village and set out to the plains southwest of the village.

“Herbs that are used in potions. They really are growing everywhere. There are also the ones for mana recovery potions.”

I could create mana potions with creation magic and I could continue to stock mana with magic crystals.

However, I wanted a different way to recover mana without using my own magic.

“Fortunately, there was an adventurer that possessed the compounding skill within the reclamation group and it was good that I was able to learn from him.”

There was a single person in the reclamation group of adventurers that could compound herbs for potions.

He was previously a son of a pharmacy, and it seems like he became an adventurer in order to supply himself with fresh herbs ingredients.

He subjugated the monsters that would become raw materials for medicine and became a part of a full-fledged C-rank party before he noticed and a talented person.

“Majo-sama? Can you briefly teach me?”

“Sure, I’ll teach you.”

As for the creation of this potion, the agreement was realized by me, Gash-san who was in charge, and that adventurer.

As for me, I wanted to learn the techniques of creating a potion.

Thus, the three parties’ intentions coalesced.

“Now, I wonder where the medicinals plants are. Also—-<<Creation>>. Soapwort seeds.”

I created herb seeds with creation magic.

“Majo-sama? What’s that?”

“Hm? herb seeds substitute for soap.”

I do laundry with the detergent created with creation magic without minding, so the reclamation group of people will be dissatisfied after I leave.

Therefore, I thought that although I can’t leave behind detergent, I’m planting herb seeds that’’ll substitute for soap in the plains and teaching the adventurers who could compound.

As far as it goes, I‘ve seen a record of herbs being a substitute for soap in the reference room in the town of Daryl, so it shouldn’t be anything particularly rare.

However, they were the soapwort seeds that I thought of which had been created with my creation magic.

・It could be used for medicinal-use, the smell was nice, and it’s not toxic.

・In order to not strongly affect the surrounding vegetation, I curbed down its reproductivity but it’s vitality is strong in exchange.

Hence, it could easily adapt to various environments, and was a gentle, natural component of the environment.

I scattered a portion of that strongest vegetation seed over the soil, grew some in the potted plants that I created with creation magic, and left some remaining to hand over to the adventurers that could compound.

“Well now, we’ve gathered enough herbs, let’s head back.”

“Yes~nanodesu.”

…………

……

It was not known when soapwort, also known as the herb called soap leaf, became known to the world. 3 However, the herb’s fragrance that made the heart feel at ease and the easiness to clean off dirt, and most importantly, the composition that makes it hard to damage the skin and textiles was discovered in a certain small forestry village, and spread to various places from that village.

Because of the appearance of that soap leaf, each cities’ public health rapidly improved and the death rate from illnesses fell.

Furthermore, it was a fad for the wealthy to use fragrant soap mixed with the soap component extracted from the soap leaf with flower extract and vegetable oil.

The village that produces the soap leaf developed their forestry and herb industry.

There’s a single legend about the soap leaf.

Once upon a time, an unexpected slightly dirty girl appeared in a village.

She suffered from an illness, and while no one looked after her as she was slightly dirty, only the young man from the village’s pharmacy gave her medicine as charity.

Then, the girl who was cured from her illness due to the medicine handed over an unusual plant seed to the young man as thanks.

While curious, the young man tried raising that plant. It was a plant that washed away various sins–a mysterious foaming plant.

Then, it was said that the slightly dirty female–a witch–was purified by that plant, reincarnated as a goddess, and lived happily with that man.

Whether it was a lie or the truth, it was one of the goddess legends handed down in that region.

The goddesses’ name is Goddess Liliel, the goddess of the five elements, which is the religion of this world, or the believer saint.

However, if the witch who was the model of this story heard—-

“Things like traditions are conveniently altered. It’s way more interesting as a story.” 4

In reality, the witch, who entrusted the man to cultivate the soapwort, stole all of that man’s compounding skills in just a few days, but—-

There was also one more thing.

“Just because I called myself a witch, doesn’t mean I didn’t change my actions to seem witch-like. Compounding with magic, stuff like that.”

As I thought, it seems like the body I reincarnated in was high spec.
