Chapter 2

Divorce

“You…” When Shen Yin saw Yun Shan lying on top of the sheets she had carefully chosen, she could no longer hold back her tears. Scalding hot tears rose in her throat and she could not speak.

“Shen Yin, you were the one who let Ah Chen down first. You can’t blame us. Since you and Ah Chen can never reconcile, just let me have him.” Yun Shan propped herself up and looked Shen Yin up and down mockingly. “Your matronly look has long turned Ah Chen off.”

Lu Chen lifted her chin, then released her with disdain. “Marrying you was already a huge embarrassment. How dare you cheat on me! I was being kind when I didn’t kill you. Why are you still refusing to leave? The divorce agreement is in the living room. Hurry up and sign it and get out of my house. It disgusts me just to look at you again.”

“Okay…” Shen Yin choked out. She turned her head and nodded.

By now, she understood everything.

Ever since she had married Lu Chen, she had whole-heartedly tried to be a good wife, who helped him and took care of his children.

Although Lu Chen refused to touch her and was unwilling to be intimate with her, she had not grown discouraged and did not complain.

She thought that as long as she worked hard enough, she would be able to win Lu Chen’s heart one day.

She had waited on her mother-in-law diligently and slaved for this family. Every day, she did the laundry and cooked for Lu Chen and her mother-in-law, as if she was a servant.

But in the end, this was all she had gotten.

Her best friend had been in cahoots with the man she loved to set her up and trap her. They had tricked her out of her first time, and given her to a strange man, whose face she had not even seen clearly.

They had cheated her of everything, including her feelings and her body. They had played her like a fiddle.

She really wanted to ask them what she, Shen Yin, was to them.

“A toy you can discard whenever you want?”

“Don’t dawdle.” Lu Chen followed Shen Yin downstairs. He could barely hide his smug smile.

Soon, this woman would leave the Lu family, and he would be able to marry the woman he loved!

Only a woman like Yun Shan, with a good figure, good looks, and fiery passion, was worthy of Lu Chen!

“You b*tch, how dare you come back? Don’t tell me you want a share of the family assets? Let me tell you, my son worked hard for everything here. You didn’t contribute at all. Don’t even think about getting your hands on my son’s money.” Mother-in-law had heard their voices and emerged from her room to point at Shen Yin.

Her eyes darted around furtively as she took out her cell phone and raised it in front of Shen Yin. “If I were you, I would quickly get as far away as I can. If you refuse to obey, I’ll post your photos online and let everyone know that Shen Cheng’s granddaughter is a slut.”

“I don’t want your things.” Shen Yin could clearly hear her heart breaking.

All these years, she had painstakingly taken care of Lu Chen and her mother-in-law at home. She should at least receive credit for her hard work. But in the end, she was still worthless in their eyes.

Oh well, so be it.

She was really tired. She would sign the divorce papers as a way to free herself.

Lu Chen did not love her. Her mother-in-law made trouble for her every day. Her best friend had betrayed her and allied with her husband to frame her.

They had gone to all this trouble just to get rid of her.

Her mother-in-law had even stooped to use her grandfather to threaten her. They were such a mean and ungrateful family. She might as well let them have their way.

Shen Yin picked up the fountain pen on the table with trembling hands. She closed her eyes briefly, and took a deep breath. When she opened them again, her eyes were clear.

She signed her name firmly. From now on, she had nothing to do with Lu Chen.

Many years later. At the exit for international flights in the capital’s airport’s, a six-year-old boy in a blue shirt and denim overalls gripped his mother’s hand tightly. His large, round eyes looked around warily.

The little boy frowned tightly and said in a childish voice, “Mom, why hasn’t Auntie Li Zi come to pick us up?”

“She should be here soon. Let’s go to the store over there. We can sit down and wait for her.” Shen Yin stroked her son’s head. She was amused by his guarded expression. “Nian Nian, are you scared?”

Shen Nian raised his head and blinked his large eyes as he stared at Shen Yin sternly. “I’m afraid that you’ll will be lost again. You’re always lost. You must hold my hand tightly this time!”

Shen Yin pretended to be angry and glared at him. When the surrounding crowd heard Shen Nian’s words, they curiously looked at this mother and son duo.

“Nian Nian! Don’t blurt out everything in public! I’m an adult after all. It’s so embarrassing for me!” Shen Yin blushed and pulled Shen Nian away from the exit.

“Okay, Mom, don’t be angry. I won’t bring it up again.” Shen Nian obediently sat on a chair in the airport cafeteria and pointed at the menu curiously. “Mom, is this a local specialty? I’ve never seen it overseas!”

“Do you want to try it? Anyway, your Aunt Li Zi hasn’t arrived yet.” Shen Yin looked at the menu nostalgically. It had been many years since she had eaten Chinese food and she had often missed the taste of Chinese food when she was overseas.

Shen Nian nodded. Actually, he was not hungry at all. The food on the plane had already filled him up.

But he had seen Shen Yin’s greedy expression and how she had been too shy to say anything, so he had casually brought it up.

Shen Yin immediately walked to the counter and happily ordered a few of her usual dishes.

She could finally smell the familiar aroma of delicious food through the curtain hanging over the kitchen door. It was the smell of home, which she could never find overseas.

The dishes were served very quickly. Shen Yin was about to drool. Just as she was about to pick up her chopsticks and dig in, a furtive figure outside the glass window caught her attention.

“Mom, that person’s bag probably doesn’t belong to him.” Shen Yin was chewing on a large mouthful of beef, her eyes half-closed in satisfaction. Indeed, Chinese food was more fragrant.

Naturally, Shen Yin had already noticed the same thing. Smiling, she turned to test him. “Why would you say that?”
