“Captain.” Meng Heng was about to speak, but hesitated when he saw Wu Zheng’s grim expression. The latter lit a cigarette and looked at Shen Yin with a worried expression. “Perhaps you’re right, but none of us want this to be true.”
Lu Feng’s parents’ answers were clearly very different from what their investigation had uncovered over the past few days.
What seemed like an ordinary family actually hid a huge secret.
Chen Ke, Lin Hui, and Lu Feng’s girlfriend Liang Wei’s contradictory statements seemed to be interfering with the police’s investigation, but in fact, they provided clues for the police to solve the case.
“We lack evidence now.” Wu Zheng blew out a mouthful of smoke. His tightly furrowed brows hid a fatigue that could not be ignored after working overtime for days.
Shen Yin looked at the two people on the screen and suggested, “There’s no one at their home now. We can send the evidence team to see if there’s any evidence that they haven’t disposed of.”
“We’re police officers, not thieves.” Wu Zheng stubbed out his cigarette and said disapprovingly, “I’ll follow the normal procedure and apply for a search warrant.”
Shen Yin nodded helplessly. Captain Wu could be so stubborn sometimes, but only a person like that would make a responsible captain.
The follow-up of this case was handed over to the criminal investigation team. All the evidence she could provide had been handed over to Team Three.
Shen Yin saw that there was nothing for her to do at the moment, and it was close to lunch time. She remembered that she had left in a hurry yesterday, and Zheng Ling might be worried about her, so she returned to the forensics office to ask Zheng Ling out for lunch.
But her phone rang just as she walked out of the surveillance room.
Shen Yin glanced at the phone and hung up decisively.
Meng Heng chased after her. “Sister, do you want to have lunch together? There’s a new cafeteria nearby. You may like it.”
“I’ve asked Zheng Ling out…” Shen Yin was about to refuse when Meng Heng waved his cell phone and smiled. “You and I have telepathy. I’ve also asked Han Xu and Zheng Ling out. The four of us can eat together.”
Shen Yin saw no reason to refuse, so she could only guiltily follow the three young people as they laughed and chatted along the way to the newly-opened restaurant.
“Hiss.” Shen Yin sucked in a breath of cold air. Why should she feel guilty?
Meng Heng, who was talking to Han Xu, immediately walked over to her. “Sister, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
“No.” Shen Yin deliberately walked faster, leaving Meng Heng behind.
Meng Heng lowered his eyes in disappointment. A moment later, he put on a happy expression and spoke to the person beside him.
However, Shen Yin kept her head lowered in deep thought. When she sat down at the table, Han Xu and Zheng Ling inadvertently jostled her over to Meng Heng’s side. But she still did not understand why she felt guilty.
“Sister, order whatever you like. This meal is on me.” Meng Heng generously placed the menu in front of her and waved his hand in front of her eyes. “Sister, stop daydreaming. Hurry up and see what you want to eat.”
“I’m fine with anything.” Shen Yin handed the menu to Han Xu and Zheng Ling in embarrassment. Then, she noticed that the two of them were sitting opposite her, and she and Meng Heng were sitting very close to each other.
However, she could not ask to change seats now. It would seem as if she despised Meng Heng. She could only brace herself. She panicked and gulped down a glass of water to hide her embarrassment.
The dishes were served very quickly. Shen Yin ate a few mouthfuls without tasting the food. Her thoughts kept flying to Lian Jing.
She had deliberately hung up on him just now. She must have offended that domineering man again, right?
“Sister, what are you thinking about?” Meng Heng filled a bowl of soup and placed it in front of her. “Sister, try this. This is the restaurant’s specialty.”
“Xiao Meng is really generous this time. The cafeteria’s prices are not cheap. Boss, this is all thanks to you.” Zheng Ling teased and took a big bite of the mutton. Then, she deliberately chewed exaggeratedly. “It smells so good. Looks like Boss will provide well for us!”
Meng Heng was afraid that Shen Yin would become even more restrained after hearing this, so he hurriedly waved her aside. “We’re all colleagues. A meal is nothing.”
Shen Yin smiled gratefully. Just as she picked up the spoon to take a sip of soup, her gaze suddenly met that of a grim looking man standing at the entrance of the cafeteria.
Shen Yin’s expression did not change, but an immense wave of hate welled up in her heart.
The man walked towards her with a mocking expression and stood beside her. His voice was eerie.
“Shen Yin, long time no see.”
It was the man she had blindly loved in the past, Lu Chen.
