"I Made a Golem."

Translated by Dawn

“I Made a Golem.”

Once I had finished my correspondence with the commercial guild, I was back at the inn. Since I finished a little early in terms of time, I had quite a bit of time left before my appointment with Greg.

Incidentally, I felt that someone was going to prostrate themselves again on the way to the inn, so I used camouflage magic to return without being seen by anyone.

At any rate, now that it was still in the morning hours, I decided to use this time to try to increase the production of accessories, but I foresaw the possibility that the accessory production process would take up a lot of my time in the future.

If this was the case, I came to the conclusion that it would be necessary to have someone else do the accessory production for me instead of making it by hand for the future, but there was only one problem in making this happen.

That is, there were no skilled craftsmen who could make accessories of the same quality as mine. My accessories were made using a magical processing method, so the quality was almost the same as accessories made on earth. For this world, they would be of very high quality, so it would be difficult to reproduce them by another hand.

Even if I could secure a skilled craftsman, it would be a huge loss for me if they were to take away the know-how and leave my store.

In order to prevent this from happening, I would have my accessories made by a being who could keep a secret and would never betray me, but there was no such a convenient being to be found anywhere.

From the standpoint of being able to keep a secret, purchasing a slave who could not disobey the master’s orders would be one option, but as I mentioned earlier, there were probably not many artisan slaves with the strict requirement of having the skills to reproduce the accessories I made.

“Wait, if I can’t find someone who can keep a secret and is as good as me, then I should make someone who can. Yeah, I mean, if you don’t have bread, why don’t you just eat cake……no?”

From this point on, I could offer a solution unique to my knowledge of my previous life, but if this world was that of fantasy, there were a few techniques that I have yet to try out. One of them was the ability to summon monsters, spirits, and other non-human creatures to accompany and use them.

Although they were described as common abilities in fantasy novels, I had not yet heard of any such abilities in this world. In light of this result, there was a possibility that the concept of servants and summoned beasts did not exist in this world itself, or that they were treated as secret skills passed down from one generation to the next.

Regardless of the existence of such technology in this world, since there is currently no way to acquire such abilities, it was not realistic to use subordinate magic or summoning techniques. If there was an element that could be realistically reproduced at this point in time, it would be magic.

“With that said, I will now begin work on creating golems.”

A golem was a technique for creating a puppet that obeyed the will of its creator by using a specific material and embedding an item containing a core of magical power in that material. That puppet was the golem.

In some well-known RPGs, golems sometimes appeared as monsters and were even treated as summoned beasts in some cases, but in this world, golems were regarded as puppets. The reason for this was that no naturally occurring golem had been confirmed, and most of them had only been created by famous wizards and alchemists.

For these reasons, creating a golem and having the golem help with the accessory-making process was a more realistic option than having a subordinate monster or a summoned beast.

The process of making a golem was not that difficult, and one could create a golem by preparing the materials that would be the source of the golem’s body and embedding magic stones and other items containing magic power as the nucleus that would move the golem. However, although the explanation was simple, it required an enormous amount of magical power to carry out the process, so even though the method was widely known, few people actually attempted to create one.

First, in order to create a golem on a trial basis, I used earth magic to create a rock. The monster’s magic stone obtained during the dungeon attack would be embedded in the rock. Naturally, this alone was just a simple process of embedding the magic stone in the rock, so the process of fusing the material rock and the magic stone by pouring magic power into the rock was needed here.

“[Create Golem]”

Since golem creation involved a magical element, I chanted an appropriate spell as a trial based on the assumption that the system of this world would recognize it as magic, and the result showed that my judgment was correct.

The magic stone that absorbed my magic power fused with the rock from which it was made, creating a golem with a standard, rugged shape. It was a little too opportunistic, but it worked, so there was no problem with that.

“Mrrr”

“I don’t know why it makes that noise, but for now, can I consider the creation of the golem a success?”

The golem created was small in size, about 30 centimeters, and was just a plain stone golem. Since no work had been done to give it special abilities, it was really just a puppet, a moving rock in the shape of a person.

When I was staring at the golem I had made, it brought its own hand to the mouth part of its face and tilted its head in a gesture, which was so unexpected to me that it did something that could be categorized as moe. …It’s so cheeky, even though it’s a golem.

After such a scene, I had no particular instructions for the golem, so I decided to lift it up and have it sit on the bed and watch as a spectator of the golem production that was about to begin. I must emphasize that I was not attracted by the moe I saw earlier.

Now, from here on, the production of artisan golems for making accessories would begin, and the material used would be something called magic ore. Magic ore contained a small amount of magic power and had a high affinity with magic power, so it had the property of transforming into the desired shape when magic power was applied. Since I had been able to obtain quite a few of these magic ores during my dungeon attacks over the past few days, I decided to take this opportunity to use them.

The magic ore was transformed into the shape of a golem by putting magic power into it, especially the hand part was elaborately made to look not so different from a human hand. This time, since it was necessary to have the work done by magic, I put some wind attribute magic into the monster’s magic stone to be used as the nucleus.

“I guess that’s about it.”

“Mrrr”

The finished golem had a greenish skin appearance, and both hands were five-fingered, just like humans, in order to specialize in detailed work. Incidentally, it should be noted that the first golem I made had rounded hands, just like the hands of a cat-shaped robot that appears in a certain popular manga.

“Alright, you’re No. 1. Number one, I want you to process this magic quartz like this and process it to about this size.”

“Mrrr”

I showed number one how I was going to process the magic quartz into a six-millimeter stone in front of its eyes as an example for it to work on immediately, and it immediately started working on it. I was relieved to see that the magic quartz stone that No.1 had made was as good as the one I had made, so I took the box containing the magic quartz and the processed stones out of storage and instructed it to make 400 stones for the time being.

As I was about to make the next golem, I felt a tug on my hem and looked down to see the first stone golem I had made looking up at me as if to say something.

“No way, you want me to give you a name?”

“Mrrr, Mrrr”

It seemed that I was right, and it desperately appealed to me while lifting one arm. …Damn, what an energetic guy.

I had no choice but to name the golem [Proto] to keep it as an ornamental golem. By the way, it went without saying that Proto was taken from the word prototype.

After that, I created ten new golems made of magic ore, gave each one the name No. 2 to No. 12, and assigned them a role.

I instructed No. 2 to No. 4 to process 4 mm magic quartz and 6 mm and 4 mm dark magic ore, respectively; No. 5 to No. 8 to drill 2 mm holes to thread strings through 6 mm and 4 mm stones of magic quartz and dark magic ore, respectively; No. 9 and No. 10 to make strings to make 6 mm and 4 mm bracelets with I asked them to make the Poison Mine Spider threads and gave the remaining No. 11 and No. 12 instructions to use the stones and string to make the bracelets.

By giving one instruction per golem, I made as many as twelve golems with the intention of avoiding irregularities when I had them do something complicated, but as expected, the amount of magic power consumed by suddenly making twelve golems was not half as much as I had expected, and I experienced dizziness standing still for a long time.

Still, the hard work seemed to have paid off, and in the blink of an eye, 6mm and 4mm magic quartz bracelets were being mass-produced. Moreover, Golem’s work was fast and careful, and there was little difference compared to the bracelets I made. In fact, since they work faster than I did, their efficiency seemed to be considerably better than mine.

“It’s kind of complicated.”

“Mrrr, Mrrr”

As I watched these golems work with such subtlety, Proto sensed this and tapped my leg to comfort me. …you, why are you so emotionally rich?

I watched the work for a while, and since there seemed to be no problem, I took out all the magic quartz and dark magic ore I had in storage and instructed the golem to process it all.

After that, I worked on the products until the appointed time with Greg, and when I had made five products, the appointed time came, so I decided to go to the commercial guild.
