CH 4

After achieving the small goal of sleeping in a bed and getting some rest, I resumed my activities.

Last night, I used a potion to heal my wounds, but my torn clothes remained unrepaired, so I had to do some unfamiliar sewing at the last minute. In the end, I got nervous and messed it up, cutting out the ripped part like shorts and making do with it.

As soon as I arrived at the tavern, the last client on my list, the muscular owner began to shout at me as usual.

Furthermore, dishes were physically thrown at me, hitting me in the face and shattering, so it seemed like he was more angry than usual.

“Aix! How long are you going to keep me waiting? Get to work quickly before the business starts. Do you even realize that you’re getting paid for this?”

“I’m sorry. I’ll get to it right away. House Clean, Ice Ball, Fire Ball, Water Ball.”

A small fairy appeared and started to clean up the dirty dishes and cluttered interior of the tavern. The refrigerator contained unmelted ice, flames continued to burn in the kitchen, and water flowed from a water bottle.

My magical power suddenly drained from my body, and I felt exhausted. Since I had modified each of them with magic to be as powerful as commercial equipment, the amount of magical power consumed had increased accordingly.

“You’re tired from such low-level magic? You’re a defective mage. That’s it! As a penalty for being late, you won’t get paid for today’s job.”

“Yes, I understand.”

I had no energy left to argue, so I just accepted the outrageous penalty. As a result, the tavern owner seemed to be in a better mood.

“I see that you understand, Aix. Perhaps my guidance has instilled some awareness of being an adventurer in you. But don’t be late again next month. If you’re even a little late, you’ll be working for free again. I’m telling you this for your own sake.”

“Yes. I won’t come next month, so you don’t have to worry about that.”

The next moment, the tavern owner looked down on me with eyes like trash, and suddenly turned red with anger, and threw a punch at me. I quickly dodged it with a head slip, as if my life depended on it.

That was close.

I was so tired that if I had not avoided it and taken it head-on, I might have shattered his fist.

“You can’t even hunt goblins properly, and yet you have the nerve to act all high and mighty. You trample on my kindness that pitied you. Listen carefully! As long as you’re an adventurer, don’t think you can escape my request.”

Oh well. In the end, then there was no point in giving away today’s low commission free of charge if I was going to be scolded anyway.

“Um, I have retired from being an adventurer, so thank you for everything up until now.”

“What, retiring!?”

Bowing my head apologetically, ai left without waiting for a response.

Though I heard angry shouts directed at me as I left, my contract with them had ended today, so I could just ignore it, right? Still, I couldn’t help but think the appointment system that I couldn’t refuse was terrible.

I managed to finish all the accumulated requests somehow.

It’s over. Finally, it’s over.

My life as a slave.

Adventurers are crap.

The chains that had bound me shattered into pieces.

My steps were light.

I shouted without hesitation on the main street!

“Aaaaaaah! I am freeeeee!!”
