CH 146

Khadar stood under the pear tree. The sight of the white, fluffy petals reminded me of spring in Japan.

Spring usually reminds me of cherry blossoms, rape blossoms — we have rape flowers, but I didn’t plant any cherry blossoms. Oh, I do have a bonsai cherry blossom in my pantry, come to think of it. It’s not like I like eating pickled cherry blossoms or leaves, but somehow, I still can’t exclude sakura and plums from my collection.

I also want maple, but I can’t think of any dishes that use it as ingredients, aside from the usual garnish, so they’re not in my pantry.

Even when I’ve become stronger, I still want to explore a lot of unknown places, so let’s do our best.

「Long time no see, Khadar. 」

「Oh, yes, it’s been a while indeed, if we based it on the flow of your time. 」

Khadar seemed to realize it.

Time flows differently for the spirits depending on what type they are. Did he feel as if we just met just a few moments ago because he’s the spirit of trees and shrubs?

「Thank you so much for the other day. Are you sure it’s okay to enter a contract with those two? 」

「The teeny ones seem to be working fine, but it seems you still lack someone who can carry objects. 」

Yeah. I remember wishing that those two were with me back when I was smithing. Retze helped me stuff the coiled springs in the end, after all.

「However, I’m afraid it was unnecessary. 」

「No, you’ve been a great help. Thank you so much for giving me security and postponement until I enter into a contract. 」

「Hoh, it appears that what you desire is the strongest contract? 」

「Yes. 」

The contract depends on the strength of magical power as well as the preparation done prior to entering the contract. However, if you didn’t consider those aspects, then the strongest contract would be the one formed because the spirit itself wishes to protect the other party, or else be employed by the contractor during the time of contract.

Forming a contract with a spirit that was sent by a more powerful spirit would often depend on the power relationship between that powerful being and the spirit it sent. Spirits are capricious in nature, so the powerful spirit’s order would often be lax, even if the other party is its subordinate.

There’s also another type of eternal contract that is the opposite of that one, and that is to forcefully bind the spirit. I doubt Khadar wanted to go that far and force those two in a contract. It’s as if it’s already enough for him if they were aware of it, through the written oath.

It’s tempting to use that kind of contract, but I don’t like the idea of forcing someone to stay beside me. It’s no different from what Sis did to me.

Still, making the black spirits submit and forming a contract with them doesn’t count, since I don’t give orders to them.

「By the way, how hard is the branch of the hardest tree growing in this world? 」

「It’s so hard that you won’t be able to cut it with the sword that you made. 」

Khadar stretched his hand, and a map flew out of my things, and it spread itself in front of me.

「It’s growing here. 」

A cross mark appeared at the spot he pointed.

「Thank you very much. The fastest tree to grow among the trees planted here would be the plums, but the spirits love going back and forth to the cherry blossom trees. I’ll give you some of the fruits once they’re available. 」

I’m aware that Ish and Pal can taste the vegetables and fruits that have been crossbred from the ones in my pantry.

And just like what happens in fantasy, cross-pollination occurs because spirits fly to and from the plants from this world and from those in my pantry, much like bees. I haven’t encountered any plum trees in this world, so they’re not planted, and there’s no plum spirit yet.

Well, the pantry plants do transform directly, so it’s not actually within the scope of what I knew.

「Mm. 」

Khadar seemed happy as he disappeared.

The map left in my hand looked like a treasure map, and it’s making me feel excited. But, aren’t they too far into the northeast? Can I handle the monsters there?

Ahh, I’ll be getting the ultimate ‘Clang Clang’ Stick EX’ so I should give it my all . Let’s extend the place I’m going to【Teleport】to bit by bit. Ahh, so excited.

For lunch, I fried some croquettes and munched on them while shredding the spring cabbage.

The crunchy coating crackled when I bit into it, and the fluffy potatoes tasted slightly sweet. The meat croquettes were also delicious, with the mild taste of beef modestly vying for attention.

It wasn’t that greasy but even so, I felt refreshed after eating a mouthful of the soft spring cabbage. Both the spring cabbage and the potatoes have a very different sweetness from each other.

Dean also took a liking to the croquettes, while the potatoes in the pot-au-feu were popular with Ash and the others. French fries were also popular, so the potatoes from Nalluahdid will surely be a hit. I feel relieved thinking about that.

Alright, since it’s raining on and off today, let’s focus on making glass diligently.

I gently poured the molten glass into the pool of molten tin, and the glass floated to the surface spreading over the surface of the tin.

The spirits seem to find it interesting for some reason because they keep on following the flow, or else trying to pull it. I thought they wouldn’t like it because they won’t be able to pass through it, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The molten tin is naturally flat, so I can make clean sheets of glass out of it. The glass available here has rounded shapes as if they were made by fusing the bottoms of flasks together, and the sheets were slightly distorted.

This finished glass looks like it’ll fetch a high price but I don’t think I’ll be making more than necessary. I have to make it while enduring the sweltering heat, but more than that, the glass itself is super hot while being processed so you get the gist.*

Today, I prepared a variety of colored gems before starting, because I already learnt from the previous colored glass that I made before. Just kidding, I prefer transparent glass, so I prepared crystals and diamonds. Is it really okay to put these in front of the spirits — was what I thought while placing the gems, but they just got absorbed easily into the glass.

As for the result — glass mixed with crystals became a one-way like thing with only one side that is see-through. The ones mixed with diamonds turned into a strong tempered glass. As I thought, involving the spirits would have unexpected results that ignored a lot of stuff. Or did this happen because of what I imagined first?

Moreover, in this world, colored gemstones are far more expensive and valued, while diamonds are dirt-cheap. Oh, is this a business opportunity of hoarding diamonds then popularizing diamond cuts?
