CH 29

That night, Ye Fei smoked on the balcony.

The apartment he rented was located on the 23rd floor and had a spacious balcony that overlooked the night skyline of the entire city.

The summer evening breeze was moist and refreshing, taking away the heat and dullness of the day. Ye Fei leaned against the guardrail carved with flower vines and looked at the night sky in a trance. He did not even notice that a large part of his cigarette had burnt away.

Just what did Yan Xiao like about him? Was it his face?

But within two years, the muscles in his whole body will slowly atrophy, and his face will be deformed and ugly. He could not even be labeled a ‘normal person’ at the end of it.

Ye Fei took a breath and laughed at himself. He wanted Yan Xiao to cut his losses and not continue to waste time on him. But in this tug-of-war, Yan Xiao showed no intention of giving up at all. On the contrary, he was the one lacking perseverance in this fight.

He has been thinking about Yan Xiao more frequently. He was becoming more soft-hearted towards Yan Xiao. Each time they met by accident, each time they looked at one another, the thought of agreeing to Yan Xiao’s wishes fermented in his heart, and Ye Fei could hardly restrain himself.

Ye Fei snuffed out the cigarette butt, his eyes dazed. He still did not know what to do.

The buzzing phone interrupted his thoughts. Ye Fei looked down and saw a WeChat message.

[President Ye, Young President Ye asked us to give two stars to <<Please Sober Up>> tonight. ]

Ye Fei was in a bad mood, but the heavens had given him an acceptable punching bag. He sneered, moved his fingers, and sent a few messages in reply. The next day, Ye Fei came to Tianxi on time.

As soon as Gu Ruijia saw him, it was as he had found a backbone, and he complained, “F*ck, someone maliciously gave our drama a low score!”

<<Please Sober Up>> had 25 million broadcasts on the first day, ascending the peak of web drama fame. Many thought that this was because of the popularity of Yan Xiao and Ye Fei, and they might not be able to maintain it the next day.

However, to their disappointment,<<Please Sober Up>> was spontaneously adopted by many netizens because of its hilarious plot and lively pacing. The number of broadcasts on the next day did not only not decline, but reached 80 million in one fell swoop.

Since this morning, the news about <<Please Sober Up>> had not been interrupted, and the major marketing accounts had also changed their previous wait-and-see attitude. They had all ended up following the trend to seize traffic, which attracted many new audiences to the show.

Gu Ruijia had been praised everywhere in the past few days; he was almost floating in the air. Who knew that before he can enjoy the taste of winning in life, there would be people without eyes trying to stir shit.

“What should we do?” Gu Ruijia took two sips of water and wiped the corner of his mouth, “Should I hire a water army to fight back? Otherwise, the audience will not want to click on it after seeing such a low score.”

“I found out last night,” Ye Fei sent a WeChat message to Yang Wenxin, Tianxi’s director of public relations, and asked him if he was ready, without raising his head, “It’s alright, don’t worry.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me? No!” Gu Ruijia slapped the table, “Who did it?”

“Ye Yao.” Ye Fei turned on the computer, clicked on the rating page of <<Please Sober Up>>, and browsed the reviews of the water army. When he saw the reviews, the corners of his lips ticked, and he motioned for Gu Ruijia to come and have a look.

“What’s there to see,” Gu Ruijia muttered, but in the end, he came over and read the comment aloud, “Tonight at 9:30, I’ll give you two stars for <<Please Sober Up>> – F*CK!” He widened his eyes in disbelief.

“Have they thought about even being anonymous? The current level of this water army is too poor.”

“Qtja jgf sbe atlcxlcu?” Tf Mfl rwlifv jcv qertfv atf mbwqeafg obgkjgv, “P kjr lc Glcusejc obg j sfjg. Qtja vlv sbe atlcx P kjr vblcu?”

“Fantastic,” Gu Ruijia gave him a thumbs up, convinced, “What’s the next step?”

Ye Fei looked at Yang Wenxin’s reply and smiled. “Hot search.” Ye Yao gave him such a big gift, he had no excuse letting it off his radar.

As a result, as Yang Wenxin did his job, the search entry <<Please Sober Up>> was given a low score” climbed the hot search that morning.

It was the first time the melon-eaters had caught such a poor water army. As they came over to have a laugh, the drama <<Please Sober Up>> made a deep impression in their minds.

[Hahahaha, my palm is hitting my face!]

[Just who is this show hindering? I didn’t want to watch online dramas, but suddenly I felt a little sympathetic and went to contribute to the broadcast’s popularity.]

[Putting embarrassment on the screen… crazy.]

[Hahahahahaha annual sand sculpture news booking!]

[Damn, isn’t it disgusting, what about the hard work of actors and directors?]

[Ah, ah, I’m so angry as a President Ye face-con! Going to rewatch the drama, spite the shit-stirrer!]

The effect of the hot search was visible to the naked eye. If you were to click on the first episode of <<Please Sober Up>>, many of the comments were “from Weibo”.

The enthusiastic melon eaters also spontaneously rated <<Please Sober Up>> due to their sympathy for the crew. In less than half a day, the score of the play was pulled up.

Ye Yao worked hard, but not only did he lose out, he had created benefits for Ye Fei instead.

“Pfft,” Gu Ruijia put down his phone in schadenfreude, “That idiot Ye Yao is probably going to vomit blood.”

“Is this enough to vomit blood?” Ye Fei closed his eyes on the sofa, slouching like a dozing cat, “It’s still early.”

“What?” As soon as Gu Ruijia heard this, he knew that Ye Fei had another card up his sleeve, and eagerly rubbed his hands together, “Let’s talk! Talk! Let me get excited in advance.”

“The water army still has its last layer of skin left.” Ye Fei said casually. But it’s probably coming off now.

Sure enough, not long after he said this, someone picked out the true colors from the past posts and replies of this batch of water army soldiers.

The accounts of those two-star reviews were all belonging to Dingyuan artistes!

Dingyuan and Tianxi were both medium-sized film and television companies, and competition naturally existed. The netizens were willing to forgive anything upright and open, but going behind their backs and doing small things disgusted them. This news broke like a stone that stirred up a thousand waves.

[Commanding a low-scoring water army… Dingyuan is full of small people.]

[I remember the news that someone had revealed. Originally, the general manager of Dingyuan was Ye Fei, but now it is his younger brother Ye Yao. Emmmm, Ye Yao really has some skills. ]

[Aah, aah, fortunately, my idol is not from Dingyuan, it’s too scary.]

[Other film and television companies should be careful. What could happen to Tianxi today could happen to another company tomorrow. After all, their leader could act against his own brother. ]

[Is this an unfair competition? Can Tianxi sue?]

[It’s too immoral, is this okay? ? What a twat.]

Dingyuan’s original public relations manager was Yang Wenxin, but Yang Wenxin had joined Tianxi. Ye Yao was originally unwilling to accept Ye Fei’s people, and he did not even bother to give a month’s time for handover before letting Yang Wenxin go.

The public relations department of a film and television company is very important. Ye Yao could only hire a public relations director with no experience in the rush to let go of Yang Wenxin.

This public relations director was only good on paper, but he had no actual skills. He did not react as public opinion acted, and when he acted, it was too late. Discussion on the Internet was almost one-sided, and Dingyuan’s reputation went down the gutter.

Ye Yao had wanted to sign a few second-tier artists before, and contracts were almost negotiated to the point of signing them on. However, everything had changed. Dingyuan was also preparing to shoot a large-scale costume drama. Ye Yao had flattered and gabbered until he finally persuaded Li Zhongyuan, the successor of Baofeng Media, to invest. As soon as this happened, Li Zhongyuan directly withdrew his investment.

In front of his subordinates, Father Ye had scolded Ye Yao harshly. He had lost his face, and still had to think of remedial measures. He shivered with anger, borrowed the assistant’s mobile phone, and called Ye Fei directly.

“Ye Fei, are you deliberately pitting me?”

“Is that so?” Ye Fei put his phone on the table, switched on the speaker, and said with a smile, “Don’t you know whoever flirts first is the pervert?”

“F*ck your mom!” Ye Yao was spitting mad, and spat out the foulest he could think of, “You are just like your short-lived mother, you can’t die with dignity, I…”

“If you haven’t learned the C language well, don’t bother talking trash,” Ye Fei interrupted him lightly. “If you can’t speak politely, it’s not only Dingyuan’s reputation at stake.”

Ye Fei used to tolerate Ye Yao, and thus this gave courage for the latter to rebel. Even though the two have torn their superficial smiles and started to fight for some time, Ye Yao’s mentality had not changed.

Upon hearing Ye Fei’s indifferent tone, Ye Yao’s nostrils flared.

“Anyway, I still have a dad,” Ye Yao slowed down and sneered, “What about you, does anyone care about you?”

Ye Fei’s face did not change, but his eyelids lowered.

“This time, I’m letting you go. ” Ye Yao stood up with the help of the desk, remembering the big project he had invested in before, <<The Way to Upgrade the Concubine>>. His confidence was then buttressed by his investment. “You won’t be so lucky next time!”

“Pfft,” Ye Fei sneered, “Okay, I’ll wait for you to scold me the hardest, and attack where you cry the most.” Ye Fei was too lazy to talk to him, and cut the call accordingly.

Because of Ye Yao’s interference, Ye Fei was in a stormy mood all day, and even Gu Ruijia had no guts to provoke him. When he was about to get off work, he was thinking of asking Zhou Zhensheng and the others out for a drink when he received a call from Yan Xiao.

Because Yan Xiao took the initiative, their interactions had been prolific of late.

“Ye Fei,” Yan Xiao asked him, “When do you get off work, I’ll take you home.”

“No need,” Ye Fei put his feet on the ottoman stool and refused, “I drove the car to work today.”

“Take my car,” Yan Xiao replied instantly, “It will be very tiring to drive after a day’s work.”

“Who says I’m tired?” Ye Fei raised his eyebrows and began to riposte, “Could it be because President Yan pushes others to take the same route because he himself is not physically fit.”

After speaking, he regretted his words. It sounded like he was flirting with Yan Xiao.

“Ye Fei,” Yan Xiao called his name, “I’m very physically fit, do you need me to prove it to you?”

Ye Fei knew that the proof that Yan Xiao said was definitely not the proof that he thought, but he still had a feeling of being reverse-played. He coughed and switched back to their original topic. “Go back by yourself, don’t worry about me.”

“I want to go home with you,” Yan Xiao was quiet for a moment, “Can I? Ye Fei.” He pleaded.

Ye Fei did not speak, and Yan Xiao did not continue. He remain silent, as if expecting that Ye Fei would soften eventually.

It had taken a long time, but Ye Fei finally obliged.

“Okay,” he said, “Come then.”

“I’ll be right here”, Yan Xiao quickly hung up the phone. Twenty minutes later, Ye Fei received a message from Yan Xiao that he had arrived downstairs in the company.

Ye Fei grabbed his bag from the table and went downstairs.

As soon as he walked out of the door, he saw Yan Xiao standing beside the car. He was wearing a light gray suit, with no expression on his face, as if he was indifferent. However, his eyes kept glancing at the door of Tianxi, and upon seeing Ye Fei coming out, his whole person became energized.

Ye Fei had wanted to say “Don’t come again”, but held it because of this sight, and did so for the entire journey back.

Yan Xiao’s villa had a combination lock, but after he had moved, he needed a key to enter his apartment.

As he got out of the elevator, he fumbled for the keys from his computer bag. Because the rings of the keychain were too small, it dropped to the floor just beside Ye Fei’s feet by accident.

Ye Fei bent down. It was an old keychain with scratches on the steel ring and a small, miniature white No. 42 basketball vest dangling underneath.

“Huh?” Ye Fei squatted down, looked at the keychain carefully, and said in a daze, “This thing looks familiar…”
