Chapter 6.1

How many days had passed since we arrived at the Duke’s residence in the capital?

After being called by the Duke, I went to his study and saw the boy sitting behind the desk looking out the window. He spoke in a leisurely voice.

“I’m going to put the documents in soon.”

“What? You haven’t even submitted the paperwork yet?”

He was rather surprised when I widened my eyes in surprise at him.

“I haven’t done it yet. Why are you in a hurry to send the documents?”

Nominally, being a guide was open to anyone, regardless of status.

Since the entire cost of the inspection from beginning to end was borne by the temple, anyone was able to see if they had potential as a guide.

If you become a C-class guide or higher, you can enter the guide training boarding school. Well of course, all expenses after: tuition, dormitory, textbooks, etc. were borne by the individual.

Even so, there was always an overflow of people submitting documents, so it was clear that it would take a year to submit the documents.

Even though I knew the situation clearly, I asked with a confused face.

“Then …… How long will it take to report for the guide class exam?”

“It will take a few months, maybe. Why? Don’t you like being in the capital? I feed, clothe, and let you live like this?”

“……no.”

“But why is your voice so small?”

He subtly noticed, so I swallowed a sigh and cried out in a loud voice.

“I’m so glad the Duke took care of me!”

“But why don’t you wear the clothes I bought you?”

Just do one thing at a time, son of a b****.

I swallowed the swearing and answered vaguely.

“That…… It’s a waste…….”

“You’re not wearing it because you’re trying to secretly sell it back, right? You can’t do that. Pick something right now and change into it.”

After the boy pressed the bell, the maid who resided in the capital’s mansion came up shortly after. Unlike their nature, which was almost neglected, the servants in the capital’s mansion were clearly organized.

Among them, there was a high-ranking maid who served the master directly. I glanced at the maid who had a wonderful career in the field I wanted to pursue.

“Cynthia, change her clothes and bring her. I’ll give you 30 minutes.”

“Yes, Master.”

Oh, by the way, her name was Lucy, not Cynthia.

This bastard duke has no way of remembering anyone’s name at once, except for mine.

Of course, if he called the wrong name, no one would even point it out to him. Even if their original name is Lucy, if the master calls her Cynthia, she becomes Cynthia.

I calmly followed Lucy and left the study.

Even in the owner’s absence, she maintained restrained movements and an expressionless face. Admiring her thoroughness, I followed her to the room assigned to me.

The Janus mansion in the capital was much smaller than the Duke’s castle, but considering the price of land in the capital, it was luxurious.

Based on the vague memories from my previous life, I think it was like a luxurious hotel getting moved. The only difference is that the Duke and his employees are the only people who live in the luxurious hotel.

Thick and fluffy white bedding made of cotton, furniture in harmony with black and gold.

‘It looks so good that my eyes pop out like this even though I expected to be given any room.’

I was afraid because I didn’t know if I, a commoner, could use a room like this. After 10 years in this life, it seemed that the status system was very imprinted in my bones.

Lucy was a high-class talent with a good eye for decorating a la nobles.

The randomly chosen accessories matched the white dress very well, and my red curly hair, which couldn’t be straightened no matter how much I tried to comb it, was smoothed nicely in an instant.

The skinny child with a lot of freckles reflected in the mirror had changed into a pretty plausible figure in a sudden.

Exactly 26 minutes later I was standing before the Duke again after dressing up.

‘High-ranking maids in the capital are different no matter what.’

I am amazed. She’d probably earn 50 albons a year. I want to be a maid like Lucy.

“Is your name just Betty?”

With the Duke’s hand gesture, she gave a neat curtsy and stepped away.  Knowing what the master needs in a flash but without revealing her presence.

‘Cool.’

“Write Betty exactly as it is written in the employment contract.”

After Lucy had left, I was engrossed in staring at the door. The Duke then took his eyes off the papers, with his eyebrows raised.

“If I write it that way, you will be registered like that until you go to school. Just Betty?”

I finally came to my senses and looked at the Duke.

“Yes! N, no……. then…….”

I was going to answer him to write it as it was. But I hesitated a little because it was a name that I would be called with at school. Didn’t I witness with my own eyes the moment I was born as a reincarnated person and got my name?

I’ve lived happily with my roughly made name, but in fact, over the past 10 years, I’ve been imagining what it would be like if I had a chance to change my name.

“Aren’t you Betty? I hope you don’t even have a fake identity.”

Looking at the Duke with his mischievous smile, I paused with a solemn voice.

“Betty is a nickname…… My original name…….”

“…… ?”

“…… Beatrice.”

“What?”

I couldn’t say anything because of the clear surprise on the boy’s face.

It was only after a suffocating silence passed that I managed to clear my throat and speak.

“It, it is Beatrice.”

“Your name…… is Beatrice?”

“…… Yes.”

“Like this?”

He picked up a blank piece of paper and scribbled something on it, then held up the paper so I could see it better.

By the way, I haven’t learned the letters of this world.

“I don’t know what you wrote.”

“You don’t know?”

“Yes.”

Could it be that there is a problem with the documents?
