Chapter 8.1

All the faces that I could see through the car windows were looking this way with their eyes wide open. In a world where cars are not yet common, the black sedan owned by Janus was enough to draw attention.

The number of people who came along with the shopping were the driver, attendant Anton, and maid Lucy.

This means that there were three people in total that I had to leave behind.

“Marianne’s shop would be nice. It’s a place with the most types of doll houses.”

As I stayed still without answering, Anton, who was sitting in the front seat, turned to me.

“You choose what you want to buy.”

“Yes.”

“If you want more, buy that too. Anything else doesn’t matter.”

“Yes.”

Anton’s lips curled into a smirk.

Since all three of them were being respectful to me, It was a burden. I couldn’t even guess what kind of trouble they would be subjected to by the Duke, just because they lost me.

However, in many ways, it was the right thing to end the relationship with the Duke as soon as possible.

Bernhard Lilier Janus inherited his title and power at a young age through an unsavory process. And because of that, he became the most powerful yet unstable sentinel Duke Janus ever.

The boy suffered from a thirst that could not be quenched by any guidance. The priests diagnosed that if he did not find a ‘companion’, he would not live to adulthood.

‘Companion’ was a term to refer to a guide whose matching rate with the sentinel exceeded 95%. It was a natural name, as once a sentinel would find such a guide, they would even go so far as to marry the guide to keep them by their side no matter what.

When the matching rate exceeded 95%, the purification effect was excellent regardless of the guide’s grade, so that’s why the priest said, ‘If he can’t find a companion’.

However, finding a companion who may or may not have been born was more work than finding a needle in a haystack, so it was more correct as a death sentence.

From then on, the boy relied on the finest passion flower from the temple.

Passion flower concentrate also purified sentinel’s powers, but the aftereffects were considerable, so it was only used in emergencies.

But what do the aftereffects have to do with people who will not live long?

People quietly waited for the next Duke, and the Duke himself began to live as he pleased, waiting for his own end.

In the meantime, an incident occurred in the coronation ceremony and he gained a powerful guide named Christine by his side.

It was already amazing just to be an S-class guide, but Christine, the true lead, was special among S-class guides of all time.

She was everyone’s companion with a matching rate of over 95% with any sentinel.

This is the reason why the readers of <JaSV> unanimously say that Duke Janus is actually the real villain.

The Duke was aware of Christine’s special ability, but deliberately hid her and used her to the fullest as his purifier.

‘Thinking about it again, he’s truly trash.’

Because he was such a person, Christine after the possession was also unaware of her special ability and quickly left in search of a new life.

When she left, Duke Janus, who had escaped his time-limited life, collapsed again.

It’s funny that he didn’t regret it until the end. But the bigger problem was that the full-grown Duke’s rampage was no longer at the level of simply ending with the deaths of a few people.

That’s right.

The ending of <JaSV>, which gave readers only shock, confusion, and trauma, is as follows.

Due to Duke Janus’ rampage, who turned from the regretful sub-male lead to the villainous mastermind: the heavenly continent, which was protected by the World Tree, collapsed. Mankind fell to the ground infested with fearsome monsters and perished.

[“I have no regrets. It was a pleasure meeting you, Eric.”]

[“I love you, Christine.”]

The story ends with a heartfelt love conversation between Duke Gladio and Christine, while falling to the ground.

Thank you for loving <JaSV> so far.

It was a tremendous despair for those who would have been reading, waiting for the cliche.

‘Well, I liked it in my own way. It’s a sad ending with a lingering aftertaste.’

Let’s put aside our feelings at the time.

I’ve been thinking about the intention of ‘that entity’ who twisted the original story ever since.

‘That Entity’ prevented Duke Janus and Christine from meeting on the day of the coronation. What does ‘the entity’ gain by doing so?

The answer was simple.

‘That entity’ wants Duke Janus to die at a young age, thus only sacrificing a few people.

Unfortunately, the boy, Duke Janus, managed to control his rampage just before he died on coronation day.

But for the sake of the world, the Duke must die young. If the end of the world could be prevented with the sacrifice of a few people, who wouldn’t agree with it?
