CH 43

After defeating a total of six Forest Wolfs together, they finally stopped coming out of the undergrowth.

After a few moments of vigilance, I lowered my weapon.

At that moment, the light swirled around me and was absorbed within me.

I felt a surge of power from deep within my body.

It’s been a while since I’ve felt this sensation, and for a moment I’m surprised, but this is a level up.

“Oh, the Goddess’s Blessing? Congratulations.” (Dan)

“……Thank you”

For a moment, I didn’t understand what the word [Goddess’s Blessing] was, and I almost froze, but I managed to give a reply.

Apparently, in this world, leveling up is called [Goddess’s Blessing].

I’ll have to remember.

As I was checking my surroundings, I noticed that Dan’s right leg was partially torn, and his thigh was slashed and bleeding.

It seems that he was hurt in the previous attack.

“Do you need me to fix that?”

I point to his right foot and said.

Dan looked at the place I pointed to and said, “Hmm, please?”

It seems he didn’t notice the scratches until I pointed it out.

Calming my mind, I focus and chant the spell in my mind. This time, I imagined making the area as small as possible.

(Divine Light, heal your people, [Holy Light]!)

A smaller amount of magic power than before flowed out from the core of my body, and light gathered near Dan’s right thigh. And when the light was gone, the wound had disappeared completely.

This is something new that I have been able to do in the last few days. In short, in order to suppress the flashy effects of [Holy Light], I tried to make the magic’s effect appear only near the wound. If this is the case, only the target location will glow, so it will be less noticeable.

Well, you could say that I couldn’t avoid the wound from being lit at all…

I also healed Mel and Rocky’s small wounds.

Then Dan blurted out behind us, “We’ve gotten quite the luxury that we can have recovery magic used on such wounds……”.

When Mel hears him, she argues, “It’s good! We’re not entering a church.”

In this world, if you need recovery magic, you basically go to a church. But it’s very expensive. So, ordinary people only use it when they really need it. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say that they can’t use it.

But if you have a healer at your party, it’s a different story.

“Okay! Then we’ll pull out the subjugation proof and magic stones from the Forest Wolves. We don’t have much time, so once we pull out the magic stones, we’ll throw the rest into the forest. Is that okay Gilm-san?” (Dan)

When Dan said so and Gilm-san nodded, everyone started working.

I heard that monsters can become undead if they continue to have magic stones in their bodies after they die, so we need to remove them anyway. If possible, the body should also be burned or buried. If you leave it behind, it will become food for other monsters.

However, no one at our party can use Fire Magic or Earth Magic, and digging a hole takes too long.

If we were hunting, we’re going to dismantle the Forest Wolf and bring back the pelt, but we’re in the middle of an escort mission so we can’t waste time. If the town was close like last time with the El Sheep, Gilm-san could buy it and put it in his carriage and take it home, but this time we’re still far from the village. And it’s also great that Forest Wolves aren’t as valuable as El Sheeps.

As a result, as the minimum measure, we can only pull out the magic stone and take the subjugation poof.

Well, I’m learning all this from Dan!

And I see Mel dismantling the Forest Wolf sideways.

I confessed that I didn’t know what I was doing and asked her to teach me.

“First, you make an opening on the belly side. Normally, you’d take out the guts from here, but since we’re just taking out the magic stone, we’ll use this cut to get it out. It’s right near the heart.” (Mel)

While saying that, Mel puts her hand in the Forest Wolf’s belly and took out a magic stone about two centimeters in diameter.

“Then, practice over here.” (Mel)

Mel told me that and stood in front of Forest Wolf.

I have a goblin dagger in my hand.

This is my first time dismantling a living creature. This is the first time I have ever dismantled a living creature. …… I feel uncomfortable, but I focused, pull up my sleeve, and slide the knife into the Forest Wolf’s belly.

Running the blade along the belly soon I opened it up with a squish. And then I thrust my hand inside.

I wondered where the heart was. I wonder if it’s on the front side. As I wandered my hand inside, I felt a hard sensation on my fingertips, so I grabbed it and pulled it out.

And there was the bloody magic stone in my hand. I felt a sense of accomplishment at having done it all, and at the same time, I wondered what I was going to do with my bloodied hands.

I really want to use [Purification], but it’s no good after all.

“Water, pour into this hand, [Water Drop]” (Mel)

I heard such a voice, and when I looked to my side, I saw Mel catching a blob of water about 10 centimeters in the air with her hand, and washing her hands with the magic stone.

“Look, I’ll wash Rook’s too, so put your hand out. You have to scoop it properly.” (Mel)

When Mel told me to do so, I hurriedly formed my hands into a bowl.

” Water, pour into this hand, [Water Drop]” (Mel)

A blob of water appeared on top of my hand before falling into my hands.

The amount of water was not enough to completely clean my hands, but I could not afford to be picky. I thanked Mel, rubbed my hands to wash away the blood, and wiped my hands and the magic stone with a rag.

After Mel saw this, she went over to Dan and Rocky and used the [Water Drop] on them as well.

“Ah… what a waste.” (Gilm)

Searching for the voice, I saw Gilm-san.

When I asked, “What is the waste?”, Gilm, who saw this, replied,

“Water made with magic can be used for many things. Medicines, potions, farming… Clean water alone is in high demand in many places.” (Gilm)

I see. I can understand the value of clean water in this environment.

Well, water is basically clean, but in a large town, sewage may seep into the ground and contaminate the well water. In the first place, it must be difficult to keep a well completely clean. If some creature accidentally falls into the well and dies, it will be contaminated, and if bird droppings happen to get into the well, it will be contaminated. Even if that doesn’t happen, if the well is exposed to the outside air, insects will probably enter the well, and moss and other plants will probably grow inside the well.

However, I wondered if there was something special about the water created by magic, beyond the fact that it was clean. If I could learn the magic of [Water Drop], I would like to test it someday.

Then we set off, and after another Forest Wolf attack, we arrived at the campsite just as the sun was beginning to set.

The trees had been cut down as if the forest had been cleared out, and there were mossy stone ruins everywhere.

However, all that remained were pillars and walls, not a single structure that could be called a house.

I bent down to observe the ground and removed some of the dirt.

Then I saw what looked like an old stone pavement, neatly laid out.

The carriage stopped, changed course, and entered the ruins of a building.

The entrance was wide enough for a carriage to pass through. The surrounding walls had not completely crumbled and were still about two meters tall.

It was well protected on all sides, leaving the entrance open. I think it’s a good place to set up camp.

“Okay, we’ve arrived at the campsite. Let’s collect firewood while checking the security of the surroundings.” (Dan)

When Dan said that, everyone went out of the camp area, and we followed behind.

We walked along the cobblestone path between the buildings, keeping an eye on our surroundings.

I was suddenly curious, so I brushed off the moss on a nearby stone wall to see it better, and then I touched it.

When I touched it, the material felt like normal stone, but there were almost no gaps between the stones.

It was not like the old brick houses, where small blocks were piled on top of each other with mud or plaster to form a shape, but it looked as if it was made by simply piling up beautiful square stone blocks of about six hundred centimeters. [T/N: 600 cm is approximately 20 feet.]

It would be difficult to cut stones into such a neat cube, and it would be difficult to carry stones of that size into this forest and stack them.

I’ve only been to the Southern Village and the town of Rankfurt, but I feel that this place is made with more advanced technology than the Southern Village as well as the town of Rankfurt.

Why did such a place end up in such a state? What the hell is this place in the first place? Perhaps magic was used in the construction? My curiosity was peaked.
