CH 85

I walk up to the book and pick it up.

It is blackish-red in color. I think it’s almost the same size as the Sacred Magic Grimoire. From the way it feels in my hands, I can tell that it’s not a grimoire that I can use, at least not in the way that I can use it. And when I looked at the cover, I saw the words [Chaos Fire] written on it, along with some patterns and symbols.

“Chaos Fire…”

What is this…? Is it a grimoire? Or is it just a lost item?

As far as I know, normal grimoires are dark green. I’m not sure what to make of it. So I don’t think this is a normal grimoire. But other than the color, it looks just like any other grimoire I’ve ever seen.

I opened the book and looked inside.

Inside were words and symbols that made no sense, and letters that I had never seen before. This is also the same… as a typical grimoire…

“Hmm… I don’t know.”

I can’t tell what it is now. It’s a good idea to have some sort of ability to appraise anything, but apparently, it doesn’t exist in this world, or if it does, it’s pretty rare.

If there is such a thing as an ability or item that can appraise anything, then the existence of Sacred Magic would have spread from Sacred Magic grimoires.

However… something is bugging me.

I feel that there is something like a hint. It is in the information I have seen and heard this far.

I crossed my arms as if I were holding a book in my arms, touched my chin with my right hand, and sank fully into my sea of thoughts.

Then, I continued to walk in circles around the same place.

What is it? Where did I see what? What were the clues?

The past, the present, and many other things come to mind.

Chaos Fire… and Holy Fire, which came from the same skeleton. Sacred magic goes hand in hand with Quarter Angel. Sacred Magic is holy magic. The opposite of holy is–

“–Ah”

I’m sure I’ve heard of a race of Quarter Devils in that white place. It was many months ago, so I don’t remember it completely, but I remember it well because quarter devils had the same 50 point consumption as Quarter Angels, which had a big impact, and they felt like a counterpart to Quarter Angels.

Moreover, I’m pretty sure I read in the description that it was good with Dark Power? I remember that in the description. There was a sentence that said it was good with dark power or something like that. In addition, I think there was something in the description of the Quarter Angel that said it was compatible with divine power.

At the time, I had no idea what divine power was, but now I know it’s some kind of power related to sacred magic. If that’s the case, isn’t there some kind of magic that corresponds to the dark power as well?

Well, it’s a matter of speculation at this point, and even if there is such magic, there is no evidence that this book is a grimoire for that magic. In other words, it’s just a matter of forcibly connecting small dots into a single line and somehow using my imagination to come up with an answer in the name of prediction.

Well, but…

“…If the sacred power is sacred magic, is the dark power the Chaos Magic?”

While saying that, I moved my eyes to the book.

But the red-black book didn’t answer anything.

“This book is … not a grimoire, so I can’t buy it.” (Receptionist)

After hunting skeletons for a while, I left the dungeon, exchanged some materials at a stall in front of the dungeon, and showed the book to the guild while exchanging magic stones. The guild also buys grimoires, so I thought they might know something, but… the result was as expected.

Well, I didn’t expect it, so it can’t be helped.

I thanked the receptionist, took the book, and left the guild.

I thought about it as I headed for the inn.

Now, what should I do with this book? I don’t have a home, so all this extra baggage is just a hindrance. If possible, I would like to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Then I thought, “Maybe I can use it for something!” I’m the person who thinks like that and keeps holding on to stuff.

In the end, I still have all the items I got from Rankfurt, along with the Purification Grimoire and the Paralyzing Knife, even though I thought I’d research their uses and throw them away if I couldn’t use them. The only things I don’t have now are the Purification Grimoire that disappeared after I used it, and the Paralysis Knife that I had to throw away because it broke…

“I have to sort out my luggage properly… The bag is getting quite hefty.”

While saying that, I put the grimoire in my backpack.

Carrying a slightly heavier backpack, I walk to my usual inn.

Today, the number of residents in my backpack increased by one.
