CH 169

The next morning, I was awakened by the sound of clattering and rattling.

“Hmm …”

As I open my eyes while turning my body toward the noise, I see a wriggling butt flopping and wiggling on the stone floor.

After watching it for a while, the owner of the wiggling butt turns around and our eyes meet.

“Kyu?” (Shion)

The owner of the butt, Shion, said, ‘Whoa, you finally woke up?’ He kicked the floor and jumped onto the bed with a kick, then toddled over to my body and licked my face.

Recently, I have been waking up in this pattern in the early hours of the morning. I am woken up by Shion’s morning activity, who woke up earlier than me.

Well, it can’t be helped. He is still a child. Usually, if I tell him properly, he will stay quiet, and I want to let him be free at least in places like this.

But I am worried that it might be a nuisance to the neighbors.

The flooring here is stone, so I don’t think the noise is that loud. A cheap inn would have been in trouble because of complaints.

From now on, I have to think about a place and environment where I can let Shion play freely.

“*Yawn*…”

With a light yawn, I get up, pick Shion up in my arms, and apply [Purification] to my whole body and Shion as usual.

When I put Shion on the floor while dusting off the white particles, Shion also shakes his body and shakes off the white particles.

I then checked my stomach and left the room to go to the cafeteria.

The passageway, illuminated by the morning sun, is empty of people, perhaps because it is still early in the day.

From a nearby room comes loud snoring. A small rattling sound from downstairs. The office staff and the ladies in the dining room are early in the morning, and they are probably already on the move when the sun rises.

As I was walking down the aisle thinking about this, I saw Mimi-san coming up the stairs.

“Good morning.”

“Ah, Rook-san, just in time. I was just on my way.” (Mimi)

Mimi stopped in front of me and continued speaking.

“Today, you have an exam after lunch, so please come to the backyard earlier than usual.” (Mimi)

“Got it. Backyard at noon, right?”

When I replied, Mimi said, “Yes. See you later.” She bowed slightly and walked down the stairs.

“Well, what shall I do until noon?”

It would be a problem to hang around outside and not make it in time, so why don’t we just kill some time inside the Clan House? Then, I wonder if it would be better to go to the library. With this in mind, I also went downstairs to the dining hall, ordered two loaves of bread and a bottle of cheap wine, and after a quick meal, which I shared with Shion, we headed for the library.

I opened the heavy door of the library and entered.

Just like the last time I came here, there was no sign of anyone – or rather, there was really no one there today.

I proceeded to the middle of the room to check the surroundings, but I couldn’t see anyone.

I tried to use [Magi Location] stealthily and detected a person on the other side of the door at the back of the room. Apparently, they are still sleeping. I mean, that room really was her room.

I didn’t doubt it, but I was surprised again. I guess there are people who really do things that they like.

Thinking this, I searched for the material I was looking for, trying not to make a loud noise.

I looked for a shelf with a board of materials on monsters, and while searching for a shelf with information including biographies, I found a book.

“Creatures of the Land.”

This book is a kind of compendium of material describing this world and Tesla’s organisms, with pictures and other information. To put it more precisely, it is an “illustrated book that describes in detail the creatures other than the people and monsters in this world.”

Yesterday, when I heard the lady who was selling bags say “both monsters and animals”, I remembered something that had bothered me a little when I first came to this world.

I wondered if there were any normal animals in this world. This is a bit of a mystery.

Well, that question was quickly answered when I saw a horse pulling a carriage, but I also saw a sheep-shaped monster called El Sheep and a wolf-shaped monster called Forest Wolf, and I wondered if just because a horse is horse-shaped does not mean it is a normal animal. I also wondered.

No, to begin with, I didn’t really think about it deeply and for some reason accepted it as normal, but is it possible for a horse to exist as a horse in this world as well? It is not without doubt that the question is, “What is the best way to make a living? But then again, so do humans, and since we have also crossed the world, it is possible that animals have also crossed the world.

It was difficult to ask someone about these questions, and there were no books on animals in any of the guilds, so there was no way to find out.

These questions about common sense are difficult to ask.

For example, in the rare event that an otherworldly person comes to earth, a person I happen to know points to a dog and asks, “Is a dog an animal?” I think it would be a million points on suspicion.

“I wish I was a little more articulate.”

I open the book, muttering to myself.

I wish I had the skill to ask for the information I want to know without raising any suspicion, but alas, I do not have such ability. I didn’t have that kind of ability in the white world either.

It’s not going to be easy.

As I read on with a light sigh, I began to understand the animals in this world.

First of all, it seems that the difference between monsters and animals is whether or not they have magic stones in their bodies. However, there is no description of what happens when they have magic stones in their bodies.

Next, let’s take a look at each of the animals that the author has researched.

First, horses. The horse was a normal horse. The same kind of creature as horses on earth. They run fast and are useful as a means of transportation in this world as well. And the book says that horses from where are good horses, but I don’t understand it because I have never heard of the name of the place. But apparently, there are areas where they are raised by human hands.

And there was some information about animals with names I had never heard of: rats, cows, dogs, cats, and so on.

Some of the animals were hunted by monsters or otherwise reduced in number, and now it seems that many of them have managed to survive by being kept by humans.

“So that’s it.”

As I was reading the book, thinking that the animal world must be tough, I heard the door in the back slam open.

As I used my [Magi Location] to locate the door, which I could not see from here, I felt “that someone” come out of the room, take a book from the shelf, sit down by the window, and open it.

I was curious about her but couldn’t find the right moment to talk to her, so I returned my attention to my book.
