Chapter 19

After Yelena calmly sent out the maid and was left alone in the tea room, she rubbed her forehead furiously.

‘It hurts!’

T/N: Is she stupid or what?

It hurt so much that tears were about to roll down her cheeks.

‘Is there a bruise?’

It was so painful that she suspected a bruise on her forehead.

Yelena looked out of the window while rubbing her still throbbing forehead.

The sun was hanging high in the sky.

Maybe Yelena could have a short nap, but it was not a good time to have a deep sleep.

Yelena sighed when the pain in her forehead had faded slightly.

“Just what am I doing?”

Why did she let her maid witness her banging her head on the table and enduring her drowsiness just then in the tea room?

‘What do you mean, why?’

Yelena’s despair soon turned into anger.

‘It’s all because of him.’

The target was clear.

‘If that man hadn’t said those words! At the dining room!’

That man.

Yelena was so enraged that she did not want to use the term ‘husband.’

‘If only he didn’t say that he wouldn’t fulfill his duties as a husband even though we’re a married couple!’

The lack of sleep made Yelena even more sensitive, which led to her thoughts running wild.

‘…Of course.’

It was a given for anger to be directed at a target when it was clear who was at fault.

Yelena suddenly recalled what Duke Mayhard had told her yesterday at the dining room.

‘He definitely did.’

Yelena’s pink eyes sparkled brightly as she stood up and left the tea room without hesitation.

***

Yelena headed straight for Duke Mayhard’s office after coming out of the tea room.

“My wife.”

Duke Mayhard greeted Yelena in a relatively calm composure.

Seeing his reaction, Yelena recalled that this was not her first time barging into his office.

Her motive in his office was not of much importance.

Yelena approached Duke Mayhard without hesitation.

Like the last time, he left her alone as she approached.

Yelena stood before the Duke, within arm’s reach, and crossed her arms before her chest.

“You have time, right?”

“Wife…”

“What is it?”

“It’s nothing.”

What was with his reaction?

He was staring at my face earlier.

‘Was something stuck on my face?’

Yelena’s hand slid across her cheeks.

But there was nothing stuck on it.

True, there was no way anything would have gotten stuck on it when she only had a cup of tea.

Yelena checked her clean hands before talking.

“I asked if you are available.”

“Yes, do you need anything?”

“Things I need?”

Of course, there was. Yelena had come to him because of that.

And that was…

‘Your flustered face.’

Yelena swallowed those words.

Yelena came all the way here to vent her anger, as she could not hold it in any longer.

It was not for something grandiose.

Yelena only wanted to see his calm face turn stiff or flustered.

She thought that it would slightly calm her seething anger.

With her arms still crossed, Yelena said, “Do you still remember the words you said to me at the dining room yesterday?”

“Yes, I do.”

How did he know what she was referring to?

Yelena drove a wedge in with his exact words.

“You said you’d give me whatever I wanted.”

“Yes, I did.”

“Then, here’s the first thing I want. Don’t hold me responsible for whatever reason I came here for.”

Duke Mayhard nodded his head.

“Okay.”

“And secondly, don’t even think of chasing me out until I step out of here on my own.”

“Sure.”

“Third…”

Yelena looked around the office and stared at the servant who stood in the corner of the room.

“I want you to send everyone else out of this room.”

Duke Mayhard’s eyes hovered on Yelena’s face for a while.

It looked like he wanted to guess what she was thinking.

Unsure if he had gotten his answer, Duke Mayhard snapped his fingers at the servant.

“Don’t come in until I call for you.”

“Yes, Master.”

The servant was darting eyes between Duke Mayhard and Yelena until the moment he closed the door.

Click. The door closed.

Yelena released her crossed arms as soon as the servant stepped out of the room.

Her reason for sending the servant away was simple.

She did not want to let others witness the following actions that she was about to do.

It concerned her prestige.

“…”

“What is it?”

Yelena brazenly sat on Duke Mayhard’s desk and looked at him in the eye.

Her position did not affect the documents scattered on his desk.

Even if it did, her unorthodox actions remained.
