Chapter 41.2

Louella got up from her seat. It seemed like Gerald missed the most important thing she wanted, but Louella was unlikely to say any more.

“Let’s go. Mom is waiting.”

Gerald nodded. He realized that he wouldn’t be able to give her the necklace today.

What did he miss?

* * *

I let out a sigh.

At that moment, I saw Gerald’s face hardening. Annoyingly, I was relieved.

The fact that Gerald was hurt by what I said and the thought that Gerald might not have let go of me yet thrilled me.

“You’re mean, Lulu.”

I rolled around on the bed.

“You, what you’re doing is having lingering emotions.”

Lingering was an emotion that was of no use to me now.

I shouldn’t have any feelings left for Gerald now.

That was the answer.

In the end, Gerald said he understood what I said.

Gerald even asked me about my ideal type. As my ex-husband, whether he remembers or not, talking about my ideal type made me feel strange.

“Ugh….”

And in the end, I didn’t even say what I thought was the most important condition.

I wanted to say that it’s okay as long as it wasn’t a man who didn’t even try to be with the woman whom he married.

Does he even know the sadness and shame I’ve experienced in my life?

I wasn’t a woman in front of him. He will never know the pride of a woman that was destroyed and broken into pieces.

But to tell Gerald that story.

“He’s still young.”

I breathed a deep sigh.

He’s not the Gerald that he was back then. I think I should just avoid that unicorn altogether.

Whether Gerald is gay or has another woman, as long as I’m not involved with him, it’s fine. I have to become an irrelevant person in his life.

“Don’t mind him, Lulu.”

I comforted myself.

Whatever it may be, my next husband’s image is absolutely a man that has good physical and emotional health. Not just healthy, but SUPER healthy!

Hmm. Is there anyone like that?

The reading club seemed to be strange, so I realized that I should look into other things.

Where should I go to meet a man who has the same goal that I do?

The reason I’m so anxious is probably because I’m already approaching twenty.

Gerald and I were married when I was 20. I wanted to turn my fate around before that day came.

I won’t let it ever connect with Gerald.

I bit my finger.

The problem is that. It’s not that easy in life. Why wasn’t there another nice guy that I could fall in love with?

Three failures in a row taught me a painful lesson.

The world is bigger than I think it is and half of the population is men, but none of them was the man I’d be falling in love with.

I could just cry.

No. It’s okay, Lulu. It’s still two years away.

By the way, when will Dad arrive? He said that he was on his way back. Why does he seem to be returning late?

Arthur touched his temples. Strange. He had been feeling sick lately.

Fortunately, a knight caught him when he almost fell off the horse.

The march was stopped and barracks were set up. Arthur’s condition was strange, and he couldn’t continue his march.

The doctor who was in charge of the knights’ health was in the barracks.

The lieutenants, who stood by Arthur in this last battle, stood around him like a fence with worried faces.

The doctor gulped and began the examination.

“I’m sure it’s because you marched nonstop,” one of the lieutenants said, “Right, doctor?”

“That’s right! It’s as if you were going to die as soon as the battle is over. You should have taken a break.”

“Oh, dear. This is going to get noisy,” Arthur grumbled. “Didn’t my daughter say she was waiting? I promised to go back before her birthday. It’s less than a month away. It’s my daughter’s first birthday after coming of age.”

It just so happened that their schedules overlapped like this.

“I couldn’t even hold her hand when she made her debut. I can’t skip her birthday party now.”

“The grand duke is really…….”

“You will understand once you have a daughter.”

“Well, how do you beat your daughter? You don’t know because you don’t have a daughter.”

The knights made a noise. Arthur, who was so good at his job, did not suffer any minor injuries in this battle.

So, other than being tired, he didn’t expect anything to be wrong with his body.

Contrary to their expectations, the examination did not end easily. The doctor asked about Arthur’s condition in detail, and when all the questions had been asked, the doctor’s face turned blue as he spoke.

“Nisephor.”
