Chapter 45.1

How long has he been here?

Originally, knights from the Leander family patrolled around the area.

The thugs were being beaten to death with Alexid’s fists.

“Why are these pieces of useless sh*t keeping my ugly younger sister from going forward?”

“Sor—-sorry!”

“I’ll correct it!”

“Strengthen the patrol. Hand these men over to the guard. You’d better prepare yourselves if this happens again.”

“Yes!”

The knights arrived and they dragged the gangsters away.

Alexid kneeled in front of me and reached out his hand.

Alexid said with a smirk, “Are you all right?”

I threw the remaining shoe at his face. Alexid snatched the shoe before I managed to hit him with it.

“Our ugly one is angry.”

Why am I ugly, you punk

I burst into more tears. Feelings of frustration and sadness came out naturally.

I’m already upset, so why is the situation getting worse?

It’s something I’ve never experienced before.

“Don’t call me ugly!”

Alexid giggled and wiped my tears with the back of his hand. Alexid didn’t give in, even though I hit his hand in annoyance.

“Then what can I say? You’re ugly, what do you call it? Do you want me to carry you on my back?”

When I nodded, Alexid turned his back.

I comfortably hung myself on Alexid’s back and he started walking slowly. The horse followed us behind.

“Did they hit you? Are you okay?” he asked.

I shook my head. Alexid had appeared before my voice could reach him.

“So why are you crying so sadly? Were you scared?”

I nodded.

“Oh, my. I was scared of the ugly one.”

Alexid’s breath dissipated in the air as he exhaled.

‘I like you, my older brother,’ I thought. His back felt warm. Alexid laughed softly as I buried my face in his back.

“Your brother told you not to go around alone.”

“I didn’t know that something would actually happen to me.”

“You know when, where, and something is going to happen. Who did you meet today? That Brenti guy? Did he not take you home?”

“What are you asking me when I just met him?”

“Gerald is better. Gerald will never let you go home alone.”

“He’s just a friend.” I sniffed.

“Which friend does that? I didn’t see him eat with you.”

“Whose side are you on?”

I pulled Alexid’s hair. You don’t know anything.

“Think hard. Why would mom feel sorry for Gerald? There’s a reason for everything. Mom wouldn’t have picked just anyone and put him next to you.”

I gave Alexid a pat on the back.

Why do you keep taking his side? At times like this, it’s full of Gerald’s side.

You really don’t know anything.

“There must have been a reason, if Gerald did something wrong. Find out why.”

He probably doesn’t know anything right now, so why is he acting as he does?

“You don’t know anything.”

“Yeah, I don’t know anything. How would I know what happened between you two? But I just wanted to tell you that you should think about it.” Alexid raised me up. “There’s something strange.”

Silence filled both of us.

Then he muttered. “Did you gain weight recently, pig?”

I sue you for saying that to me!

* * *

Mom was surprised to see us come in with me on Alexid’s back. After taking a warm bath, I was drinking a cup of hot milk when my mom came into my bedroom.

“You must be surprised, my daughter.”

I lay on my mother’s knee as she sat beside the bed. This makes what happened today feel like a dream.

“What about Alexid?” I asked.

“He’s washing up now. Alexid must have been very surprised.”

I don’t think so.

“My eyes opened up when I heard you screaming. It must have been hard on my body because I ran all of a sudden to see what was going on.”

It wasn’t really obvious, mom.

“My daughter. You must be busy these days?”

“Yes.”

“Lulu, let’s have sweet dreams tonight. I’ll protect you and your brother so that it doesn’t happen again.”

“Yes.”

He nodded his head. My mom swept my hair. I felt like I went back to my childhood. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

‘You know that. There must have been something strange.’

The words that my older brother said lingered in my head for a long time.

It was weird.

It was weird.

“Are we even a married couple?”

I’m tired. I can’t even beg Gerald anymore.

“What does that mean, Lulu?”

Gerald got out of bed and walked up to me.

I lay down to sleep, but I felt shame. I felt resentment towards myself and the resentment I felt towards Gerald soared.

I thought we could live happily, but I was unhappy throughout my marriage.
