Volume 5 - CH 22

Akechi Hideyori Gets to Know His Parents

What ‘I’ know about Akechi Hideyori’s parents?

They’re probably human I guess.

That’s all I know.

“So I had parents after all huh…….”

“Of course you did! Well, I guess you were quite young when my sister’s family took you in huh.”

Master said it like it was a matter of fact.

That’s probably normal since he knew both of my parents huh.

“You were taken in by the relatives from your father’s side while your sister was taken in by your mother’s relatives I think.”

“Eh? I have a sister?”

“You seriously don’t know anything huh.”

“If I have a sister then it’s obvious that she would be the cutest in the world right?”

“Ugh, turning into a full-blown siscon the moment that you heard you have a sister huh.”

That said, did the original Akechi Hideyori have a sister?

I just can’t shake that question off my mind.

After all, such an interesting development like Akechi Hideyori actually having a younger sister did not exist in [Breaking the Chain of Sadness]…….

I’ve always thought that I’m an only child.

Both in the game and now.

Besides, I’ve read through every corner of the visual fan book so I know about every single heroine in the game and every character’s family structure.

For example, Emi and Eien-chan are also an only child.

Tsugaru has a younger sister (Although she did not appear in the game.)

Needless to ask, I would know if a character in the game has a brother or a sister.

That’s why it made me feel so anxious to learn that Akechi Hideyori actually has a little sister.

This is strange, too strange.

In this world where the settings of the game were fully replicated, why does Akechi Hideyori suddenly have a younger sister?

I don’t know.

But it doesn’t matter.

I probably won’t get the chance to meet her anyway.

“Anyway, your real father was a bigger piece of trash than your uncle.”

“That’s some terrible assessment isn’t it……”

The original Akechi Hideyori was that terrible after all.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he inherited his personality from his parent.

“He also possessed a nightmarish Gift.”

“Nightmarish how?”

I’m at the right age for a chuunibyou.

(TLN: Eight-grader syndrome, a Japanese colloquial term typically used to describe early teens who have grandiose delusions, who desperately want to stand out)

It would be impossible for me not to react when he phrased it like that.

“It’s a Gift that [Makes others commit suicide]. It’s a trash Gift that normally should have no use whatsoever. A person with some common sense wouldn’t even consider using it. But your father used it to murder his wife, and two other people from the [Bureau of Gift Control]. She was his own wife, my friend, and your mother. I can never forgive him for killing her.”

The Bureau of Gift Control is an organization that conducts Gift-related research and is also something that acts like a police agency dedicated to handling Gift Holders. It’s an organization that handles things like trials for Gift-related crimes.

Almost everything I did in the game would be considered a crime by them.

All the cases the Bureau of Gift Control handles will go to court. (Well, there’s no such gentle ending where Hideyori got caught and went to trial though. He died in every route after all.)

Depending on the route, the Bureau would get involved in the game story.

That aside, now I can see what my parents were like.

But to be honest……………

……….the original Akechi Hideyori is ten times worse.

“That’s why my feelings about your existence are pretty complicated, Hideyori-kun.”

“Is that so?”

“You are the child born between my [Friend] and [Her murderer] you know? At first, I was not even sure if I should treat you well or just give you a cold shoulder.”

“Treat me well please.”

“Then, when you first visited my place, my first impression of you was that you looked just like that damn murderer. At the time, I started thinking that I should just treat you coldly.”

“Why!”

“I even thought that my sister did something extra by taking you in when I served you your first coffee you know.”

“Aren’t you too malicious toward a child……..”

“Well, your eyes certainly looked like your father’s but overall I think you are leaning more toward your mother though.”

To be frank, I wouldn’t want to deal with a child who refuses to pay and freeloads at my shop too.

If I put myself in Master’s shoes, that much is obvious.

That’s why I’m not going to complain about that.

“Actually, you did treat me pretty coldly when I was a child huh………thinking about it now, that has never changed though.”

“Who would want to be kind to a child with an attitude like yours…….Still, when I saw Sakuya playing with you so happily, I began to trust you. I never expected my daughter to grow that much you know. I couldn’t look at you like a normal child after what your father did but after observing you for a while, I decided to take a proper look at you again.”

Master said with a shy smile.

“To be honest, I think of you as something like a son. I don’t care if you have a Gift. I’ve already judged with my own eyes that you are a good kid. I want you to keep visiting me and Sakuya from now on too.”

“If you’re fine with me here then don’t mind if I freeload on your coffee okay.”

Thank goodness……

When he said that he doesn’t even want to let a Gift Holder in here, I thought that I would lose the only place I can relax.

“By the way, I don’t see Master as a father figure you know.”

“That’s fine but once you’re around 20 I wouldn’t mind if you start calling me [Father(in-law)] though.”

“Why would I do that……? I mean, I don’t really see you like a parent but an older brother you know. I can talk to you about anything after all.”

“Hmm, that’s nice. It’s weird to have a younger brother the same age as my daughter though. Anyway, I will rank you as my most important person second to Sakuya then.”

Said Master in an almost reluctant manner.

I truly feel that this person might be the most reliable adult in the world for me right now.

“By the way, on the topic of Hideyori-kun’s Gift. Since you did cure my sister’s husband’s sick mind and healed Sakuya’s cold, can I assume that it’s a Gift that can [Cure Sickness]?”

“My Gift is not such a peaceful thing like that. If I have to say it, I think my Gift is way more dangerous than a Gift that [Make Others Commit Suicide].”

“Ha…..?”

I can just do both with my Gift after all……..

Seeing how powerful it is compared to what Master already considered nightmarish, I can’t help but feel afraid of it as well.

“If I were to say that my real Gift far outclassed both a Gift that can [Cure Sickness] and [Make Others Commit Suicide], would you think that it’s bad?”

“……..I don’t think the word bad can even describe that though.”

“Right…….. But Master has already told me so much today. Let me tell you something about myself too.”

“Eh…….?”

If it’s too much for him to handle then that’s it.

But I believe that of all the people I’ve met, I can talk to him about it.

“It is also related to my Gift…….but know this, I’m willing to talk about it because it’s you, Master.”

“W, What with you all of a sudden? It’s scary you know……”

“…….Master, do you believe in a previous life?”

………..Besides, I want more collaborators in this world other than Tsugaru.

Plus, a person who did not appear in the game should not be affected by its story.

That’s why Master is the perfect person for me to consult.
