Volume 8 - CH 26

Compensation for Weakness: Daily Life

It’s a strange feeling to be talking to my classmates like this.

In the first place, the only one I could hold a decent conversation with in this entire school was Akechi-san.

Before I realized that my Gift was affecting people, I ended up going with the flow and joined the literature club here but I didn’t really speak to anyone and just silently sat in the clubroom.

.

.

“Fukamori-san, you look like you have a lot of friends.”

“Not really. I had to move to attend this school you see. ……….I still don’t have any friends here.”

“You sure you actually have a friend back in your old school~?”

“That’s rude! An old classmate of mine is attending this school, she’s just in a different class! ……it’s not that I don’t have any friends.”

.

.

Teased by Emi-san, Fukamori-san’s face started blushing.

I still can not keep up with them.

.

.

“Calling me Fukamori-san is too formal. I want you to call me Mitsuki instead.”

“There it is! Mitsuki’s ‘please be my friend’ move.”

“Can you be quiet!?”

“Nishishishishi.” (TLN: Cheeky snicker noise)

.

.

Emi-san’s laugh was so funny that I almost laughed out loud as well.

.

.

“N, Nice to meet you, Mitsuki-san.”

“Umu, nice to meet you too, Haruka.”

“Nice to meetcha, HARUKA.”

.

.

We added each other on RINE immediately.

I’ve been a loner since I entered this school but now I’m exchanging contacts with my classmates for the first time.

This might be the best time for me to overcome my Gift.

.

If I was too late in overcoming [Energy Drain], I would not be able to become friends with either Mitsuki-san or Emi-san.

I really can’t thank Akechi-san enough for all he did for me.

.

.

“So, which middle school did you come from, Haruka?”

“Ah, Uhh…..Hazuki middle school.”

“If you came from Hazuki then we’re practically neighbors right! I’m from Satsuki Jr High.”

“I’m from Shiwasu.”

.

.

Seeing that we all came from different middle schools, I made a bitter smile.

Also……

Akechi-san said that he came from Yayoi middle school right?

That school was in a district next to mine.

.

.

“Shi, Shiwasu? Where’s that…..?”

“………….”

“Nyahahahahaha! I get you, I get you, Haruka! [Shi, Shiwasu? Where’s that…..?], that was legit funny!”

“Don’t laugh! It can’t be helped right, the one that was actually close to my old school was the 4th Gift Academy after all!”

“Then why did you come to the 5th?”

“I wanted to study at a larger facility……”

“Lame~”

“Shut up! What’s wrong with you!?”

“N, Now now…….let’s not fight……”

.

.

Mitsuki-san and Emi-san bickers and I step in to stop them, the formula has already been established.

.

.

“But instead of using the school dorm, you’re renting an apartment to commute here right? Oh god, you’re loaded. Mitsuki is a real-life Ojou-sama.”

.

.

Emi-san’s voice lowered.

Certainly, from her upbringing and how she behaves, it seems like she’s from a different world than us.

.

.

“Stop saying that….. Otou-sama rent it so I can live with my younger sister so there’s nothing I can do alright.”

“Otou-sama!? Eh? You really call your father like that?”

“Eh? Did I say something strange? If you want to pay respect to your father then you’d obviously call him Otou-sama. Right, Haruka?”

“…….eh?”

.

.

You’re asking me?

I’ve never used Otou-sama on my father so I don’t really know though……

.

.

“Come on, can’t you see that you’re troubling Haruka, Mitsuki. A normal person would just call their father Otou-san or Papa, not Otou-sama you know.”

“I don’t understand. Why would you call someone who gave you your life with less respect though?”

“Even if you ask me…….”

“I would never call my father Papa. I might compromise on Papa-sama though.”

“What -sama now!?”

“Papa-sama, LMAO!”

.

.

I giggle.

This gap between the serious-looking Mitsuki-san and this ridiculous topic is very funny.

.

.

“That being said, I wonder why the lessons here are so tough…….”

“They are really tough aren’t they…….it took my all just to keep up, I can’t even prepare for it…….”

“Maybe it’s a mistake coming here because I was told that I would be able to get a Gift-related job, I was promised to be a winner in life you know.”

“Emi-san, you took the exam to get in right?”

“If you’re asking that then it means Haruka is also a Gift Holder huh. Ahh, Mitsuki first then Haruka, it’s so unfair~”

.

.

Even if she says that I don’t think the fact that I possess a Gift that can easily take someone’s life is enviable at all.

Mine is not an ability that anyone should be jealous of.

.

.

“Well, we are technically studying the power of God after all. Of course, it will be difficult.”

“I should have gone the idol route like StarCha.”

“I’m a StarCha fan too you know.”

“Really!”

“Me too. We are the same aren’t we.”

.

.

Mitsuki-san nodded.

.

.

“Ahh, I’ve been looking up to her you know.”

“How did a serious Ojou-sama like you become a StarCha fan though……?”

“Come on, StarCha literally has a star in her name right? I just think that I have a great affinity with her since I have a (Tsuki)moon in my name.”

“You just like her name?

“It started with the name but I fell for her songs too.”

“Then let’s go sing StarCha’s songs at the karaoke together, Mitsuki!”

“Hey, at least invite me too.”

.

.

School life where I actually have friends is so much fun.

After all, this was the daily life I’d always wished for.
