CH 71

[The Fifth]

Eureka, the fifth member of the hero party, finally appeared.

She had white skin and slightly slanted eyes.

She wore her pigeon blood ruby-red hair in twintails.

As for her age, about the same as me, I believed.

While she looked a little more grown-up, her face retained a hint of youthfulness.

If I had to describe her appearance, ‘a cute girl’ would be the most apt.

I see.

This was why (former)Barrett sank his poisonous fangs into her.

——No, hang on a second.

Who was to say if she was the Eureka whom I was looking for?

In the original storyline, Eureka was the member who had the least sense of presence—or more accurately, who was least narrated, so I had very little information on her. She was the only member of the party who didn’t have an individual episode, so the general opinion was that she was just an extra.

That was why I couldn’t say for sure if she was the hero party’s Eureka.

I needed to observe her more to make sure.

“O-oh, your name is Eureka. I’m Barrett. Barrett Albers.”

“! B-Barrett Albers?!”

Huh?

What was up with that reaction… surprised, much?

“U-uhh… have we met somewhere?”

“N-no, we haven’t, but the House of Albers is a prestigious and famous house in the Bramshal Kingdom, so…”

Speaking of which, that was the setting.

Starting with Jarvis, many other students around me came from good families—Raul was an exception, though—so this reaction was a first for me.

But from the general public’s standpoint, this reaction was only natural, perhaps?

I almost never left the academy’s vast grounds, so I wasn’t sure.

“What brings you here?! Oh! I know! It’s summer, so you must be on vacation!”

“W-well…”

She was unexpectedly jolly, huh.

“O-oh, yeah, what were you doing on the beach, Eureka?”

“Me? I was doing a part-time job!”

“Part-time Job?”

A part-time job… could it be to subjugate the monster—nah, no way. Eureka didn’t seem to be a student of the academy, and she didn’t seem to have any combat experience.

“What the job was?”

“Collecting seaweeds!”

“S-seaweeds?”

“Yes! A nearby restaurant uses them to make salads!”

Restaurant… was it the one we went to for lunch?

“Recently, the number of customers has decreased, and the restaurant seems to be in financial difficulty…at times like this, serving its customers well and giving them a memorable impression of the restaurant is a must!”

“I-is that so…”

…Huh?

This girl… was she not the original storyline’s Eureka, after all?

Honestly, I just couldn’t imagine how this bubbly part-timer girl could ever come into contact with (former)Barrett, a great noble.

At this point in the original storyline, many girls were starting to approach Barrett. Every single one of them was a daughter of a noble house with solid family background.

Would he come here and start an affair with a commoner even though such girls were at his beck and call?

Then again, I couldn’t put it past Barrett. After all, Barrett was scum when it came to women.

…Maybe she wasn’t the hero party’s Eureka, after all.

“Alright, I’ll take my leave now.”

“Are you sure? Though you weren’t injured, you were attacked by a monster. You can stay here today. I’ll take care of the fee, so you don’t have to worry about it.”

“I’m grateful for your concern, but… I’m not used to this kind of place.” Eureka laughed embarrassedly.

I’m not used to this kind of place… I see. This was a resort inn. It was probably more expensive than a regular inn.

After giving another deep bow, Eureka left.

“…I sure can’t imagine Barrett going for her.”

Now then, was she or was she not Eureka from the hero party?

To ascertain that, let’s try to find out more about her.
