CH 169

[Despairing Andrei]

Andrei was emaciated and had dark circles under his eyes.

His condition was the worst by any standard.

“Hey…”

I was planning to somehow help Jarvis and Andrei get together at the party at the Ehrenbergs’ residence, but… it seemed that Andrei would have trouble overcoming his first obstacle, the exam.

“Y-you okay, Andrei?”

“Oh… I’m okay… I’m totally fine… George.”

“Who is that?!”

This wasn’t good.

He was seeing hallucinations.

“Did you stay up late studying?”

“I was trying to put my feelings for Jarvis into words after studying… but before I knew it, it was already morning.”

What are you, a boy in puberty?!

Well, you are, though!

“You’ve got to pull yourself together. If you fail the exam, you’ll have to take supplementary lessons and the plan I made with Tayte will go to waste.”

“I’m sorry… I’ll make sure to pass the exam, Douglas.”

“…………”

He might be beyond help…

Just then…

“U-um, there is still some time until the exam, so why don’t you take a nap in the infirmary until then?”

“! That’s a good idea!”

Tayte’s suggestion was the best thing we could do right now.

“There’s still about an hour until the exam… until then, get some shuteye in the infirmary. I’ll explain it to Mr. Walter.”

“Thanks… I owe you one… Michael.”

“Are you doing it on purpose?!”

Andrei then headed for the infirmary.

He was a bit wobbly, but… well, it wasn’t that far away, so he’d be fine.

“Andrei… it seems he is having it pretty tough.”

“Hmm…”

I’d like to help him out more, but… letting him rest was all I could do at the moment.

Right then…

“It’s still morning, why are you guys making such difficult faces?”

A voice called out from behind us, making us freeze.

“! W-what’s wrong?”

“N-no, it’s nothing—Jarvis.”

“G-good morning, Jarvis.”

It was Jarvis.

“Are you guys hiding something?”

“N-no way. More importantly, did you study for the exam?”

“Of course. I even reviewed Magic Potions, which I wasn’t quite good at, from the basics.”

It looked like I didn’t need to worry about her failing the exam.

Not that I was worried, to begin with.

“Oh? I can’t seem to find Andrei…”

“He went to the infirmary because he was feeling a little under the weather.”

“I see…”

Oh?

Jarvis looked a little sad.

Maybe…

“Barrett…”

“Yeah—Andrei may actually have a good chance.”

Until now, Jarvis had never shown any feelings other than friendship toward Andrei.

However, her feelings seemed to change with the talks about her adoption.

Jarvis herself seemed to not notice it.

…Do your best, Andrei.

Your future depended on this exam!
