Good Boy, Come Hug

Bai Yao tenses and reflexively looks back at Mu Mu’er.

The boy appears stunned. There is a fog in his eyes that cloud his vision; he looks like he’s looking at him, but also not.

Until the person approaches them more does Bai Yao look back at him.

He is a tall and slender person whose appearance does remind Bai Yao of Mu Mu’er; specifically, the form of his lips. His eyes do not look as similar.

He’s dressed up formally in a suffocating suit even despite the lingering summer heat; he has opened up his collar, however. His collarbone can be seen.

“Mu Mu?” He speaks, not looking away from Mu Mu’er at all, “it’s really you.”

Then he takes another step forward, and his arm raises a little.

Mu Mu’er subconsciously grabs Bai Yao by the hand, and then grabs Bai Yao’s palm with his other hand as well. When both locked, he begins pulling backwards, towards the direction of the door.

He fails to move Bai Yao.

The man’s gaze lands on their hands, and he begins frowning almost immediately.

Mu Mu’er says nothing at all; however, the man’s intimidating aura appears to frighten him. He gives up, letting go of Bai Yao’s hands, and runs back inside, upstairs, disappearing from sight entirely.

When the man tries to follow, Bai Yao stops him by instinct with his hand, “wait…”

Some who appear to be bodyguards who are close by around the garden gate immediately takes a few steps forth, the frontmost one already stepping within the boundaries of the garden.

The man doesn’t turn around, but waves his hand to dismiss them.

When they back off towards their two cars, the man finally looks at Bai Yao properly. His expression appears unchanged. It’s difficult to tell what he’s thinking about.

A while later, he extends his right hand in greeting, “I’m Mu Yi, Mu Mu’s older brother.”

Bai Yao shakes his hand as is polite, while giving his name tersely.

“Bai Yao.”

In these short seconds, Bai Yao can already sense a sort of noble pride from the man opposite him. His eyes are sharp and uncompromising, unlike what most people’s eyes are.

His voice is as cold as his appearance. Not particularly loud, but exceptionally clear. It’s a powerful voice.

Bai Yao only has a short-sleeved T-shirt on due to the weather today, and his hair is a bit of a mess from the sea breeze on his way home. Part of his hair bun has been undone, and some strands fall by the side of his face.

Mu Yi eyes him up and down without reservation or seeming emotion, although his eyes do linger for a moment longer on the tattoo on Bai Yao’s arm.

Bai Yao casually puts his hands back in his pockets and looks nonchalantly into the distance, to let Mu Yi observe him as much as he wants.

About a minute later, Mu Yi retracts his gaze and looks at the restaurant, asking, “can we talk inside?”

Bai Yao looks him in the eye for a moment, before stepping to the side to let him in.

Mu Yi takes a few steps, before turning and raising his chin a little at the three bodyguards to leave them.

Inside the restaurant, Mu Yi doesn’t look around anymore, but takes a seat closest to the door directly. His legs cross without a moment of hesitation. His posture is impeccable.

Bai Yao doesn’t sit, but crosses his arms and stands a small distance away, his body largely blocking the stairs.

No one speaks for a moment, until Bai Yao begins frankly, “what did you call him just now?”

Mu Yi seems surprised at this first question, but answers quite quickly, “his name. Mu Mu.”

Bai Yao pauses before telling him, “he told me his name is Mu Mu’er.”

Mu Yi appears unfazed, and his tone, too, remains unchanged, “his name is not Mu Mu’er. Mu Mu is his proper name. Mu’er is his nickname.”

Mu Mu’er’s older brother gives off a feeling of distance. Not apathy, but more reservation because there is no one else in the world that commands proper respect from him. It’s like nothing else in the world is worth his name.

“Why did he…” Mu Yi begins, but changes his question midway, “I thought he would be happy to see me.”

Bai Yao doesn’t know what he wants to hear either, or if he should even say anything. He continues standing for a while, multiple possible replies juggling in his head, before he gives up and lets his arms go, saying, “I have to check up on him.”

He’s concerned leaving Mu Mu’er alone upstairs in this instance.

Without waiting for a reply, Bai Yao turns to go upstairs. He can feel Mu Yi’s gaze remaining on him the entire way, but he ignores it. He shuts the door right behind him after entering the living space.
