Chapter 109 - Released!

Kairen looked at the team leader's face with a surprised expression. He blinked his eyes and tilted his head.

It wasn't only him, other unit members were also looking at the team leader with confusion.

They had all been doing their works until they heard what team leader Dains said. People in the hall looked between Kairen, team leader Dains, and themselves.

Kairen lowered his head, thinking about the team leader's words. He sighed and bit his lips.

'I just wanted to meet Alan Gill...'

He had decided to try his luck and talk to Alan after thinking a lot about it yesterday. He wanted to know that if that man was really from another world or not. He knew that the possibility wasn't high, but it was the only thing that he had found till now.

Even if it was unlikely for him to be from Earth or another world, Kairen thought he could find something out if he talked to that man. Kairen wasn't sure if he would answer his questions when he didn't even answer the team leader.

Kairen had ignored a lot of things till now like a fool. He had ignored lots of things about Kairen 1, not thinking about the small clues that were given to him.

He didn't want to repeat the same mistake. That's why he wanted to talk to Alan no matter what.

However, it wasn't possible anymore.

"What do you mean by that, team leader?"

Team leader Dains, who was about to enter his office, stopped and looked at Darren.

"Alan Gill is being released today, wasn't I clear with my words?"

"I mean... why? Why is he being released all of a sudden? And in this kind of situation? There are lots of strange cases that might be related to that man, yet you are releasing him?"

"Yes."

Team leader Dains gave that short answer and entered his office without any further words. It was obvious that he had no intention of explaining things to others.

People watched him close his office's door before starting to chatter among themselves.

"What? Why is he releasing him so suddenly?"

"He didn't even explain..."

"What's gotten into him lately?"

"Kairen, did you know about that?"

Kairen looked at Rai and shook his head.

Kairen had decided to talk with Alan Gill yesterday, but he didn't have the chance to do so.

They were busy with the agents that came to Hainston the whole day and so he didn't have the time to think about Alan Gill anymore. They had to prepare lots of things for their arrival that they even didn't get the chance to sleep properly.

Things were quieter today. Most of the jobs were done and they didn't have to rush too much.

The fuss about the agents has also calmed down a little bit. Their quests arrived early in the morning and were now settled down. The detectives and the agents of the two countries were working together and looking into information.

Unit 3 was helping in the investigation while unit 5 was dealing with other stuff related to them. They had prepared a separate hall for the agents and were monitoring and helping them directly.

That was why Kairen thought he could ask for permission from the team leader and visit Alan Gill. He didn't know how he was supposed to explain the reason he wanted to meet Alan, so he had been practicing different scenarios since yesterday.

But when he told the team leader that he wanted to talk to Alan, he said that Alan Gill would be released today instead of asking Kairen for a reason.

"No. I don't know."

"You wanted to talk to Alan, did you find out something?"

Kairen smailed awkwardly at the question that he heard from Carlson instead of the team leader and spat out the nonsense that he had memorized.

"Ah, I'm not sure about that. I thought I had found something about him while searching yesterday, but since both the team leader and Glenn were busy I thought I could just go talk to him myself. I know I'm not even an official member yet, but I wanted to help in a way. That's why I requested the team leader to let me talk to him."

Carlson raised one of his eyebrows and looked at Kairen with a strange expression.

"I see. You work hard."

"Thank you."

Kairen smiled, scratched his neck, and slowly walked away from the crowd.

'He said he will be released today, not he was released. I may still have the chance to talk to him... Ah, damn. I have to talk to him before he leaves.'

With that thought, Kairen sneaked into the elevator.

'Team leader Dains didn't day I could talk to that man, but he didn't say I couldn't talk to him though...'

Probably he was too busy to pay attention to Kairen and his action, or he didn't think that Kairen would still go after him even after knowing that he was being released. Whatever the reason was, Kairen didn't mind it. He had asked for permission and no one said he couldn't talk to that man.

While waiting for the elevator to arrive on the first floor, Kairen thought about something else.

'Am I acting too thoughtless? There is no need to even ask that! I sure am acting thoughtlessly. I even used the unit's computer and data to search for personal information... Glenn must know by now that I'd done that...'

Kairen couldn't help but think about that kind of stuff. He had expected to be scolded or questioned by Glenn, as he had used the unit's data for personal use. He had been waiting to be scolded by Glenn or even by the team leader, but no one had ever said anything to him about that issue. There was no way that they hadn't noticed what he had done, Kairen thought.

'Are they too busy with this mascry case that they have forgotten about it? Or, isn't it really a big deal and I'm overthinking?'

Ding

Kairen pushed his thought to the back of his head after sensing the elevator stopped moving. He had to talk to Alan Gill first before worrying about other things.

"Huh?"

"Hmm?"

Kairen saw a familiar face as soon as the elevator's doors opened. He looked at captain Neal, and captain Neal looked at him for a moment.

"Hello-"

Kairen raised his hand to greet her, but she instead frowned and walked past him to enter the elevator.

"...."

Kairen could see her press the number that was unit 5's floor before the elevator's doors closed.

'She was going to our unit?'

Kairen stared at the closed doors of the elevator for a moment, before shrugging and continuing to walk towards the small building outside the main headquarters where the man was being held.

He arrived there after a few minutes of walking. He went straight towards the prison officer and showed him his card. He asked the man as soon as his identity and position were confirmed.

"I'd like to talk to a prisoner named Alan Gill."

The prison officer looked at the papers on his desk and answered with a troubled voice.

"I'm sorry but the man that you are looking for was released a few minutes ago..."

"What?"

The man showed the paper in his hand to Kairen.

"Here. Alan Gill was released at 1 P.M. around fifteen minutes ago."

"..."

Kairen looked at the page. There was detailed information about Alan Gill, along with his direct time of arrest and release.

Around fifteen minutes ago...

'If he was released fifteen minutes ago... he shouldn't be that far away, right? He must've gone to the teleportation center near this place to teleport and go back to his house...'

"Thank you, sir."

Kairen thanked the prison officer and ran out of the building.

'I don't think I'll get a chance to talk to him or anyone like him anymore.'

Kairen exited the headquarters and ran towards the teleportation center.

He knew he might get punished for leaving the work without getting permission, but he didn't care.

There was only one place that ordinary could use to teleport in this area. A big building called the teleportation center. You had to have a citizenship card to use it and there were limits to how much one normal person could teleport in one day.

'Does that man even have a citizenship card? Will he be able to use the teleportation center?'

Kairen didn't know that as well. He was sure that man didn't have anything like a citizenship card or whatever else, he was the one who had been investigating and digging his past after all.

'There is no other place he can use right now besides there... Ah, man. I will surely be punished...'

Wasn't the reason he was working here to search for a way back anyway?

With that thought, Kairen ran towards the building where he thought he could find the man.
