Chapter 112 - Just A Bunch Of Monsters, Nothing Much

The monster died in a few seconds, leaving nothing but a burnt and torn corpse behind.

The whole building that was buzzing with different sounds turned silent. The monster that the people were running away from was dead. The people that were running to exit the building saw the state of the city and stopped. They all looked around in confusion. 

It wasn't hard for them to understand things, the outside was full of monsters, while inside the building was safe and even had a shield surrounding it. 

The people stopped running away and returned to the inside of the shield. Everyone was confused, looking around all scared. The security guards were the ones who regained their reasoning soon and started to help out people. They went around, rescuing the injured and guiding the lost.

But that all didn't matter to Kairen. He had just killed a monster, but couldn't just stop there. He had to go and help the others.

'I guess I can kill a few more monsters around here.'

When he finally decided on what to do, he heard a quiet mumble from behind.

"Shattered..."

Kairen turned back, only to see Alan staring at him.

"...What?"

He was looking at Kairen with a piercing gaze as if he could see through him. That made Kairen feel uncomfortable and awkward, so he took one step back.

The man opened his mouth again, still looking at Kairen's eyes with a frown on his face.

"It's shattered... Shattered, cracked, and torn..."

"...."

'What is he talking about?'

"What are-"

BOOOMM

Just when Kairen opened his mouth, he heard the sound of another explosion from somewhere outside the building.

"EEK!"

"What is going on on the outside?"

"Where are the hunter?"

"We are all gonna die!"

The panicked people started screaming again. It was obvious that they were all terrified.

Kairen looked at Alan while taking one step back.

"Stay here. It will be safe inside the shield I created. I'll be back after the monsters are taken care of."

Kairen said that and turned back, running towards the exit.

'I couldn't talk to him about his past because of what happened. I have to come back after I'm done and have a conversation with him.'

Kairen smiled with satisfaction. 

"What the hell are you talking about?"

He heard Alan's voice from behind but didn't have the time to turn back and answer him. Kairen just ignored the man and left the building.

"KIAAA!"

"Help!"

"Mom! Dad!"

B-Bommm BOOMM

KIEEEEE

Once he left the building, he could clearly see and hear everything that was going on in the city. Monsters destroying buildings. Monsters attacking people. Monsters blocking the way. People screaming, running away, and seeking help.

Kairen took a deep breath. The symbols all around his body started to shine again. The next moment, a bunch of super weak energy beams was floating in front of him.

. . . . . 

"Holy shit! Where did all these things come from? The city was safe and peaceful just moments ago..."

"Stop talking and focus!"

SLASH

KIEEE

With the movement of a sword, the body of a monster was cut in half. The monster let out a screech before it fell to the ground and stopped moving.

BANGGG

The other monster around him was hit with a magic spell and also died in the blink of an eye.

"Huff. There are so many of them..."

BANG BANG BANG

Three monsters that were approaching the group from far away were hit with bullets and fell down, not moving after that.

The man that had shut the three monsters just now filled his guns with bullets and started giving orders.

"Carlson, Thea, and Rai. You three stay here and protect the headquarters. Don't let a single one of them pass this point. Darren and Serria clear the right side while Reyan and I clear the left side, and..."

The team leader stopped talking. He looked around, then looked at the unit members that were surrounding him. He checked their faces one by one before sighing.

Someone seemed to be missing.

"That's all."

"Yes, sir."

"Yes."

"Understood."

The unit members were quick to follow orders. They divided themselves into groups and started moving.

"I'll clear the front by myself. My teams know what they have to do."

"Will you be fine all alone?"

"Yes."

With a nod, captain Neal started walking forward while casting spells.

BANG BANG

The monster in the front died after being hit with an aura slash, while the other monster's body was pierced by bullets.

"There are just too many of them..."

Reyan shook the monster fluid off of his sword and looked around. He could spot five more monsters nearby.

"A-Are they hunters?"

"We are saved!"

"Thank you!"

Team leader Dains turned towards the group of people who were gathered together in a corner.

"Walk this way towards SMF's headquarters. We've cleared the monsters nearby so there is no need to be afraid. There are agents who will help you there."

"Ah!"

"T-thank you so much!"

"Dear God, I thought I would die here."

The people started moving towards the headquarters in the now safe road, while the two-man team ran the opposite way.

While running towards the monsters, team leader Dains opened his mouth while looking around.

"So, where is that friend of yours?"

"Ah?"

Reyan flinched slightly. He thought for a moment before shaking his head.

"I don't know."

"When was the last time you saw him?"

Reyan looked at the team leader with a slightly hesitant face. The team leader's face was stiff and his voice was cold. Reyan felt that he was being interrogated all of a sudden and in the middle of fighting monsters.

"...It was a few minutes before the monster break out."

"Where did he go?"

"He-"

Reyan stopped talking and took out his sword.

CLANG

He blocked the attack coming his way using his sword and jumped back a few meters. 

Once he landed on the ground, a thick leg of a spider pierced the place where he was standing just now. 

Reyan held his sword though and kicked the ground, rushing towards the monster.

"He said something about Alan Gill and left the hall in a hurry."

SLASH

As soon as the blade reached the monster's leg, it was cut in half like cheese.

The startled monster moved its other legs to attack him, but they were all shot and disabled before reaching the young man.

"Alan Gill? What about him?"

Reyan jumped up high while covering his blade in the aura.

"How would I know? Why are you asking me these questions?"

He flipped in the air before landing right on the monster's back.

KIEE??

The surprised spider shook its head to make the annoying human fall down. But before it could get rid of the human, Reayn thrust his sword in the monster's back. He pushed the sword deep down into the monster's body and released the aura that was covering the blade.

KKKIIEEAKK

The unwelded aura moved inside the monster's body, cutting its insides and destroying everything in its path.

The monster's body shook for a moment before losing strength and falling down to the ground, lifeless.

"Tch!"

The team leader clicked his tongue and aimed at the other monster that was coming their way, not even checking if the monster that Reyan had fought was dead or not.

"Why would he run off after him in a situation like this?"

He mumbled that under his lips whit a frown and shot the monster approaching them mercilessly.

"Haa!"

"Papa, is the monster gone?"

The kid hugging a bag full of snacks and crouching down in a corner near a wall called out for his father with his eyes closed shut.

The noise surrounding was calm and the only thing he could hear was the sound of water dropping somewhere.

"Papa?"

The kid hesitantly opened his eyes. The first thing that he saw was the back of his father. There was something weird on the ground in front of his father, but the kid couldn't understand what it was. 

His father turned towards him after hearing his call.

"Didn't I tell you not to open your eyes until I tell you?"

The kid flinched after seeing the serious look on his father's face.

"B-But papa didn't answer me at all no matter how much I called..."

The kid clenched the bag of snacks and lowered his head. Even though the whole place was wet, he was fine without even a single wet spot in his clothes. The kid looked at the water in the ground and thought that it was weird, but didn't say anything about it.

BANNGG BAAAAANNGGG 

"EEKK!"

The little kid gasped and jumped up after hearing the sound of an explosion coming from somewhere. 

The sound was really scary. The kid was too scared that he even dropped his dear snacks. Not knowing what to do, he closed his eyes shut again and covered his ears with his small hands.

"SHHH."

Just then, he sensed a warm hand on his head. Then two warm arms embraced him and a soft voice whispered something to his ear.

"It's fine. There is no need to be scared.. Papa is here."
