Chapter 309

309 The final base

Since that day, Kairen was not allowed to use his mana ever again. All he was permitted to do was to... play with his power and try to improve it without even thinking about using man. After arguing- talking to Aaron over the phone, his master, captain Neal, watched Kairen all the time when he was training and if he used even a single drop of mana, she... would nearly beat Kairen up.

But in the end, Kairen managed to achieve the thing he so wanted.

The permission to take part in missions!

If this was half a year ago, he wouldn’t believe that he was trying so hard to be allowed to go on some dangerous missions that he might get killed... and he still honestly preferred working with Glenn than doing some dangerous stuff and killing people... But that job was really boring and... He felt so useless all the time and... He was just a little bit, a tiny bit, envious that others could do missions with his brother, and... he also like to fight alongside him...

Anyway! He had gotten the permission and that’s what is important.

“Are you sure about it?”

“Well, it’s the most probable possibility.”

“Yeah, and also the thing that the data shows.”

The unit members were all sitting around a round table, looking at the maps and papers spread on the table. They had all gathered in the hall to discuss their next mission.

.....

“What if it’s a trap?”

“Alan has been observing that place for almost a month and hadn’t noticed anything unusual. According to Aaron’s words and our investigation, that location is most likely the place where he said they received their orders from and also where a lot of supplies are also stored.”

Aaron nodded his head.

“I never went there personally... I wasn’t allowed to as I was still a newcomer, I’ve heard some things from the other members... And this location seems to match their descriptions.”

Glenn and Kairen, as well as the intelligence branch, had worked hard to locate this place. They first started with some transit routes and some pieces of not-really useful information that Aaron had given them.

They had to find and capture some traitors among the border guards who helped the transmission of the illegal goods and used the information they gave them after interrogating them.

Everything started from there. They worked on these small pieces of information for weeks to finally manage to locate the place that was most likely to be the main base of Philomns.

They then sent Alan to keep an eye on there. As someone with the power to control time however he liked, it was an easy job for him to check the location and stay hidden, and also sent reports regularly. No, he usually came back to the hall to report himself, as he had started growing a huge non-technology inclination and stopped using the gadgets that team leader Dains had forced on him by working really hard.

“But the fact that they’ve been too quiet these days is really worrisome.”

“I agree with that. Whenever they are quiet like this, the next thing they do is something really huge.”

“They weren’t actually quiet. They’ve been supporting the country that is fighting us from behind the whole time.”

“Yeah. They also have Ongetion under their control. I can’t say that they were quiet all this time or not.”

“Ongetion has long become their lair. The things we discovered there can’t be built over the span of a few years.”

Ongetion.

Their neighboring nation had always avoided conflicts and lived at peace.

That place was where they had found a huge number of Philomns bases. They’ve also located a few of the Philomns ranks in there. Some of them were even seen going around the cities and shopping for groceries in Ongetion’s capital in the light of day!

It wasn’t hard for them to know that those islands, the nation of Ongetion, was either under the control of Philomns or were working for them for some reason.

The power of Philomns was more than they had imagined.

“I’m sure they are also up to something.”

Glenn nodded his head.

“There is no doubt in that. We’ve been attacking Philomns bases one by one and capturing their people rapidly in the past few months. They must know that we will find their base sooner or later. They also know that Aaron now works for us. They must’ve seen him moving with our team to take out those bases. I’m sure they are prepared for whatever we want to do.”

Everyone agreed with him. This mission was one of the biggest and most dangerous missions they ever had. They had been working on this plan for weeks. It was not like the other mission, where they formed a plan and attacked the base only a few days after discovering its location. They had to be extra careful as they had only one shot here. They couldn’t mess things up.

The main base of Philomns was also the place where their weapons were stored. There wasn’t anyone here who didn’t know the meaning of that. Those weapons were more dangerous than anything else. Even one bomb was enough to wipe out a city. One wrong move and they all might die.

They were going to kill a dragon at its lair.

“So? When is the attack?”

“Friday.”

“It’s in three days?”

“Yeah.”

“Who else will be coming?”

“We are not sure yet, but the whole Special Units will be there for certain.”

“Will that be enough?”

“No. Definitely not.”

“Huuu... It’s frustrating.”

“Yeah...”

Some of the unit members sighed in frustration and some covered their faces with their palms. The atmosphere in the hall had been tense in the past few days and it was getting even worse as time passed. They were slowly forming their plan while still observing the base and adding more people and units to the attacking team, however, none of them could loosen the unit members’ stress at all.

“I’ll repeat the plan once again so listen carefully.”

“Again? But you explained it just yesterday.”

“I changed some details about the locations of the units.”

“Haaaah! Yes! We are listening!”

Glenn also sighed and stood up from his seat.

“So, we will start moving at this our from here and then...”

Despite the unit members nagging a lot, they all listened to Glenn’s words carefully. They made sure to remember everything he said and some even took notes for themselves.

“Is it really alright?”

After listening to Glenn’s explanations for another two rounds, the unit members were finally free to go. Kairen picked up another map from the table and put it on top of the pile of papers that Aaron was holding, before checking the table to see if anything was left on it.

“What are you talking about?”

Aaron also glanced at the table, and once he made sure that he had all the papers in his arms, he turned around to walk to Glenn’s office.

“You coming to that mission.”

“Oh come on! Why wouldn’t that be alright?”

“I still don’t agree with you going to fight!”

They passed the other unit members, who were busy going to the gym to train, and entered Glenn’s office to put the papers in their places.

“I’ve already taken part in a few missions and you’ve seen that nothing happened to me!”

From the day that Kairen was allowed to take part in missions again, he had gone to a total of five missions in two weeks and had performed his task really well. He could fight even better than before without using his mana. After spending some time working on his power, the preciously useless cracks could now be used as great weapons. Although he couldn’t even compare to what that holy said could do, his power was still amazing.

“You know that this one is different.”

“Yeah. And I also know that my power is needed ther.”

“But they can do it even without you.”

“If I’m not going, then you shouldn’t go either!”

“What? Why?”

“Because it’s dangerous?”

“You know that my power is essential to the plan.”

“Yeah, and I won’t let you go alone.”

“Ren!”

Aaron stopped organizing the papers and turned to Kairen, glaring at him with his usual frowning face.

“Don’t look at me like that. I won’t let you go there alone.”

“Nothing will happen to me.”

“And nothing will happen to me either!”

Kairen placed his hands on his hips.

“So stop nagging like an old man and let’s go home.”

Aaron finished organizing the papers and straightened his back.

“I’m an old man though.”

“Yeah yeah. A hot old man with big tits.”

“Wha-”

Aaron froze on his spot and snapped his head towards Kairen.

.....

“Where the hell did you learn that from?”

“You have a lot of fans, brother!”

“What the-”

“I hear them talk about you everywhere I go.”

Kairen whipped his imaginary tear.

“Sigh. I never knew living the life of the brother of a handsome man could be so hard.”

“Ren!”

“They talk about my brother’s different muscles and stain his chastity with dirty words and I should keep quiet and not punch them in the face... not that I can even punch anyone in the face here...”

“REN!”

Aaron’s face was completely red, either from anger or embarrassment, or maybe both.

“Shut up and let’s go home.”

“Yeah. Let’s go home.”

Kairen swallowed his laughter and lowered his head, fearing that he might be the one who gets punched in the face if he doesn’t shut up.
